Pain From Losartan

Updated

I have been taking Losartan 50 mg for treatment of high blood pressure approx. a year and half now, works on reducing blood pressure however about 4 months ago the muscles and joints in my arms stated hurting. My doctor has run various blood test and now sending me to Orthopediac doctor, I think it is the Losartan but he ignores my opinion that it could be the problem. Has any one else had this problem.

Hi, John! It's not a typical side effect of Losartan, but I've had some of them cause very odd side effects in me, as well, so I have to say that it's possible.

When I was in the hospital once they had me on an IV of Enalapril and it made me feel as if my whole spine was being twisted in a vice, I couldn't stand it.

There are many other blood pressure medications that you can try, so it should be very easy to let you switch to another one for awhile and see if the problem clears up.

It really just depends on you and how sensitive your body is to any given medication.

Is this the only medication that you're taking regularly?

Likewise, I've been taking Losartan Potassium for about the a year and a half in addition to Metoprolol that I've taken for many years, yet about 6 months ago, I began having tingling, muscle/joint pains with cramps that are increasing until they've become IMO severe. The doctor discounts that Losartan is a side effect and has prescribed an antidepressant and a muscle relaxer. These pains become even more severe each evening after I take the daily dose. Now I've self-prescribed acetaminophen to help and am debating with myself whether to have the scripts filled, but I guess I have no option unless I change doctors who may have the same opinion or I just take to my bed...day and night.

Is it possible that the manufactor of the pill has changed one of the inactive ingredients? I had been taking a metoprolol white pill imprinted with a 100 on one side. I had no major side effects taking this pill for 4 years. Recently, I started having joint and muscle pain. I checked the pill and my latest refill looks like the same pill, but is imprinted with an A MS. There are many generic versions of this pill. Maybe, some versions have more side effect ions than others. Is anyone having side effects from the name brand?
