HI Kimberly,

Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are now worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics).

Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach in my opinion, is to discuss up front and honestly what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will take it under consideration and hear you out if you approach them in this manner. I believe a lot of patients don't get the medication they need because they are approaching the doctor in such a needy way that they are being viewed as addicts or junkies and not patients. So as awkward as that may seem, it is something to consider and be made aware of, because sadly enough, that is how many rudimentary doctors tend to think.

In regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}

You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist

Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they are accepting new patients; some aren't, but most usually are.

I hope this info helps and wish you all good luck on finding the right doctor!

PTHANK YOU SO MUCH!! i do have all of my records from my previous pain management dr. I actually have an appt with a neurosurgeon today to discuss possible surgery on my back (two deteriorated discs. Narrowing of my spine and a tear in another disc!). I have already had neck surgery n have a titanium "plate" in my neck. Thus the reason for pain meds! I could be a mrteorologist because of the "hardware" in my neck! So needless to say i am petrified of having another surgery! What will happen if iy diesnt help n the pain gets worse? But i am putting it in Gods hands and i know his Will will be done! Thank you so much for your response! God bless and keep you safe! Will post after my ao

I had the same problem. When I was three years old I was hit and ran over by a car on the highway where I used to live. And when I was 15 I had gotten into a fight over my sister with a 19 year old, well I had gotten stabbed by him in my lower back. So my back is pretty messed up. Anyways my first doctor gave me meds for two years and one of my u.a's came back negative for everything, so je had to cut me loose. That was painful. About three years later I had found another doctor, well pain management, and I was doing good for about two to three years. On my last visit, which was close to 2 years ago, they had toldme that they are letting eeveryone go who has medicade as there insurance provider. I was without medicine for about a month. I called the pain doctor up trying to get help and they told me to go to a methadone clinic. They had told me about the placd because I was also getting methadone with my other pain meds. So now im stuck on this methadone crap, it doesnt work. Also, if I had known that the place I am going to is for drug addiction and H users I would have never went. So now I am labled a drug addict because I am going to this place. And I do not think that any doctors will help me with my old meds. Besides the injections which I get every once in a while but they don't do much at all. I dont know what to do, or where to go. I just know I want to get off this methadone and back on my regular medication.

I went to this office here for a little over 3 years and never had a problem with a drug check and not ever doing anything different they just did a swab on me and made me look like I was a user for street drugs, I never did street drugs in my life ,they need to check the girl who works there the one who handle my swab so just giving you further notice if they don't want to see you anymore then they will label you.

pain management associates of delaware only accept cash and they charge 200 and another 25 for UA's. the most pills they give a patient is 168 a month and you have to be seen every 28 days and it takes awhile before you will reach that amount of meds

Pain Mgmt. Assoc. of De. SUCKS!!!! The N.P. Linda is WONDERFUL,KIND &CARING!! It's the office thAt needs to be worried about! The Dr. husband RICHARD LIARA is a JOKE!!! He has NO medical back ground,is listed off-line as a "business man"& treats the office as such. He will throw u out in a split sec!!! It's a JOKE how they have worded their web site- Premier my ass!!! I never had a problem for over three years until I went to visit my family. I got called in for a pill count& since I was hundreds of miles away- couldn't get there by 5p.m.that day!! I went to my parents pharmacist,he called them(gave all his credentials,name of pharmacy,which Richard could've easily checked phone# out,AND my parents family Dr.!!) Since I had all my meds with me,both the pharmacist AND the Dr. did pill counts & I was spot on- but "ill man"(Napoleon complex) threw me out anyway!!!!
Told ya'll that long story to make everyone aware that this place will take Ur money & toss u to the curb! The office staff is scared of losing their jobs,so all U'll get is an I'm so sorry......
