Pain Management Doctors In And Around The Baton Rouge Area That Prescribe Meds To People Who Really Need Them & Accepts Medicaid (Page 2)

Updated

Does anyone know of a doctor in and around the Baton Rouge Louisiana area that will prescribe pain meds that takes Medicaid? I'm seeing a doctor now in Maryland but I really need to move back to Louisiana very sad that your pain keeps you from moving. I have a sister that is terminally ill and sad to say dying...and meds are keeping me from going to take care of her in her final days. Please help

Louisiana Medicaid does pay for chronic pain management. It's finding a Dr that will take it that's the problem. I found mine in August of this year in Metairie and last month he told me he is moving to a different location and will no longer take Medicaid. He said since I'm only on hydrocodone right now that the other Dr that will start seeing me might continue treatment. Hope so cuz it took me three years to find him and was stuck on tramadol for forever. Not much help for everything wrong with my back. And i heard that Medicaid will only pay for two hydrocodone a day but he started me on three and i had no trouble getting it filled.

I am on medicare , my primary dr sent me to Pain Management Dr. associated with neurologist . I get 100 Oxycodone a month. I am in Gretna , LA. A lot of the drs will give you this .I need to find a Community Health Solutions,Medicaid, dr. that will issue this med. or something like it. This is for my daughter. If you ask your dr. will be able to tell you . Thank you , Maw Maw Di

Put Louisiana Medicaid AND Pain Management in your search bar. One of the first searchs is for the Louisiana Medicaid Providers Manual. Go to that page and put pain in the find feature of your browser.

Louisiana Medicaid will only pay for 720 hydrocodone combination doses in a rolling 365 day period.. After that you have to pay for it if you want the rx. This went into effect several months ago.

Medicare and Medicaid are not the same thing. They do not cover the same things. If you need a dr who is with Community Health Solutions go to their website. There should be a list of drs that accept it there. If not, you can call them and ask.

A Neurologist or any other dr who chooses to treat chronic pain is not the same as a Pain Management Dr.

Medicaid is not limiting hydrocodone to 720 a year. Different bayou health plans may be limiting it. But i am with amerigroup Medicaid and just spoke with them and they said they do have a daily limit but it's six a day. I asked about the 720 limit so i wouldn't be get surprised at the pharmacy when filling my prescription because my doctor and the pharmacy never warned me about the limit. And they said it could be another company under bayou health that sets a limit like that but they don't. I would suggest calling your insurance company and asking about these limits during open enrollment(which it is right now) and switch to a better one if they set such a crazy limit. And don't limit your search for a doctor to just pain management doctors. Because Medicaid has them listed but i know when i call them they don't take Medicaid so I'm sure they do that everywhere. Neurologists and orthopedic surgeons also have pain management doctors in their clinics. Not all clinics, you will just have to look. I know this because i started seeing an ortho that just lost his pain management doctor to another clinic. And so i decided to try a neurologist next, because i started having a lot of neurological symptoms, and was lucky to find a clinic that also had a pain management doctor.

I stand corrected. The letter to providers doesn't specify Shared Savings Plans, but the website does.

As far as Louisiana Medicaid paying for the management of chronic pain, it doesn't. If the dr is a member of a clinic, their services are billed under the clinic or another drs name.

Pat, I was also a patient of Dr. Ellis and given my walking papers. I've been unable to find a doctor willing to help me since, and unfortunately have been having to get relief elsewhere. Do you think Dr. Johnston might be able to help me?

If your Louisiana Medicaid Healthcare Plan is with one of the two Sahared Saving Plans, you need to check and see if your current dr will still be covered after the changes kick in Feb 2015. Be sure and call your drs office and ask them as well as calling your health plan.

yes Medicaid will pay for pain management. it was years ago when i called and asked that but I'm with amerigroup with Medicaid and i called them recently to see how much hydrocodone they pay for a day and they do pay for six a day. it just takes time to find a Dr that accepts Medicaid and gives u medication. ur best bet is clinics. just keep making appointments until u find one in your area. that's wut I did. and go for the new mris and emgs that they order cuz they will see that u do need the medication and they might not give u anything till u can prove it. there are too many aholes out there that just want drugs and it makes it harder for people who are truly suffering to get wut they need

My husband was also discharged from La spine and Sports med. Dr. Barrow. Has been unable to find a dr since. They claim he failed a drug panel, but they hadn't even given him one for SEVERAL months prior to discharge. I Really wanted to request the record be amended, but they will not even speak to us. He was a model patient for 8 years. No abuse or misuse issues. We genuinely believed in dr barrow, and were quite hurt and confused by this.

Darlene, Medicaid will pay for pain meds but it will not pay a Pain Managment Dr. Call the Pain Management Clinis in your area and tell them you have Medicaid. Call your health plan and ask them for the name of Pain Managment Dr that will take Medicaid. Just because a dr can write a rx for pain meds does not mean that they are a pain managment dr. PCP's and other Medicaid providers are stopping treating chronic pain patients that receive medicaid because of the government penalities for high prescribers of pain meds. Louisiana Medicaid pays almost nothing compared to other insurance and self pay. It is not worth it to the drs.

Medicaid will pay for pain management as long as u can find a Dr that accepts it. my Dr was a legit pain management Dr And now He left the clinic I'm at and started his own practice and no longer accepts Medicaid. but the other doctors still there, not pain management doctors, are willing to still treat me because of my neurological problems and the fact that I'm not taking an insane amount of medication. pain management is just that. u have to learn to manage ur pain. not numb yourself. and i don't care if i see a pain management Dr or a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic surgeon or a pcp. as long as i get help. cuz for a year and a half i saw my pcp who gave me tramadol, flexeril, and gabapentin which as little as the tramadol helped, i couldn't get out of bed without it. and that whole time i went to one referral after the other and by the grace of god i found a Dr who took Medicaid and after a new emg started me on hydrocodone, tizanidine, And a higher dose of gabapentin. just because u can't find a Dr doesn't mean u should make other people lose hope that they will ever find one. keep looking people. i promise u they are out there. i had almost given up before i found my Dr. i could hardly walk cuz my spine is so unstable. I've already had three surgeries and I'm only 30 and yes they were necessary cuz the herniated discs were deforming my spinal cord. and now I have post laminectomy syndrome cuz the surgeries damaged a lot of other discs. and the radiculopathy from a cyst on my sacral spine makes my legs damn near useless. on top of thoracic spinal stenosis and cervical stenosis. but as bad as i was, i never stopped looking. and neither should any of u. no one should have to live in pain and i promise , if u need help, if u go for the tests and prove that u are as bad as u say u are, u will find a Dr

SHANNA i don't know how to send a personal message but i saw my new Dr today at the same clinic that i found with a pain management dr that accepts Medicaid. he left but the new Dr said he wouldn't treat me for pain management but he would treat me for my nerve pain. if u have nerve pain and emgs to back it up then it's worth a try for u to see him. if u don't he does do them himself. and in another month they will have an mri machine there. very convenient. ur first appointment will be a very long wait. my first appointment with both drs was four hours but worth the wait.i don't know wut meds u take but i get hydrocodone and it helps me manage my pain with my gabapentin and muscle relaxers. I still have a lot of pain but it's better than nothing. this Dr is in Metairie. if ur interested then send me a personal message and I'll give u the info.

If you receive Louisiana Medicaid you need to be sure your current dr will still be in that plan effective February 2015. The Shared Savings Plans, United Healthcare and Louisiana Health Care Solutions will not longer have plans where you can see any dr who accepts Medicaid. The dr has to be in your plan for Medicaid to pay for it. There will be no plans where you can go to any dr who accepts Medicaid effective February 2015. You must change your plan by Tuesday January 20 at 6pm. If you don't change your plan you will have to stay with that plan until open enrollment again, even if that means you have to change drs.
