Pm Doctor In East Bay, Ca Or What To Do Next W/o One.

Updated

Sixty five and just got the mandatory Medicare but also have a PPO since March. My previous plan, an HMO would only provide me with 40 Vicodin a month for my daily back pain which includes scoliosis, spurs, two very degenerated discs, annular tear, sciatica and some other issues if can't even remember. I've had the epidural several times with minor relief, PT, neurontin, tramadol (does zip). After the big conspiracy by the FDA was enacted in Nov, I was cut off with no referral. I know that some people abuse their pain meds, but 40 a month? Come on. They even cut my friend off that has severe MS all because of this FDA thing. I was still hurting rationing 40 pills a month. My primary told me that Americans are too dependent on pain meds. She said that in her country of Paraguay patients would have surgery and walk home the next day without any pain medication. I couldn't believe she gets paid to make such outrageous claims.

Anyway, turning 65, switching to a PPO, losing my pain meds and moving to a new city is the perfect storm. I'm in incredible pain. I fell in the shower and hit the spout on the way down. I think that is what's causing the majority of the pain. So here I am, new city, new medical plans and some days I just wish I could die, or amputate my leg when the sciatica really flairs. I feel like I'm in hell.

I've read that people in pain are turning to illicit drugs because they can't legally get the meds they need. There is going to be an increase in ODs. What's the DEA going to pull then? Doctors are afraid to RX pain meds now and people like us are suffering, sometimes to the point of considering suicide. They don't care about prescribing all kinds of psyche meds but when it comes to physical pain, they refuse to help us. I know I should get my records re: my back but that could take a while and I need relief. Does anyone know a rational and compassionate PM doc or clinic in my area? I would even go to San Francisco. Thank you for any advice and I'm sorry that so many of you are hurting. These stories are horrible.
