Hello, Kevin! How are you? I'm sorry that you're having a problem getting your medication.

Yes, there is a shortage and it is normal for this time of year, due to mandatory manufacturing limits. Once a manufacturer reaches their allotted limit for the year, they cannot manufacture any new product, until after the new year. Every year, demand inevitably exceeds supply and we end up with shortages for the last few months of the year.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Rather than raising the dose, which your doctor might be reluctant to do, it might be better to ask what your pharmacy has in stock and then see if your doctor will prescribe an equivalent dose of that, in the meantime.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or advice to add?

I have been in pain management clinics since 1998 after a disabling surgery that went sideways ..as well as have severe neuropathy in feet, legs and Rheumatoid arthritis.. And am allergic to all non-steroidal anti-inflamitories. In the past 4 months I've had a a spinal implant that has really help with the neuropathy and was switched from MS Contin 60 mg 3x a day to 60 mg OxyContin 60mg twice a day and my pain levels are way lower... The only problem is that I am not getting enough coverage physiologically as I start feeling withdrawals at about the 7 hour mark.. I am also prescribed 15mg of morphine IR 4x as needed ... At least for this first month ..I have not needed the 15mg IRs as much for pain but do take one if I'm starting to feel withdrawals.. I'm not sure I may be just a little under medicated by going from 3 MSContin SR to 2 of the 60 mg OxyContin..or is it a withdrawal from being on MSContin for so many years? If anyone has any experience being switched between MSContin and OxyContin and have felt withdrawal symptoms after 20 days.. I'd really like to know. I hate taking the breakthrough pain morphine IRs if I don't need them for pain ....but since 2 days ago I've had too to manage the withdrawal like symptoms. I know they say 1/2 life is short for Morphine based medication but I still feel like after 12 yrs of MSContin that I am possibly just having the withdrawal symptoms because it is finally cleared from my body... Any thoughts .. Thanks

My doc ended up giving me morphine 30's 3x a day.
Im not sure how this adds up to the oxycodone 10's that Iam supposed to get.

My refill for my oxymorphone's is not till next week. But we shall see wtf happens here...

I too have had spinal surgury and arthritis in all my C level discs.

I really dont know how the hell they did it back before modern medicine, I really dont..

I know this is an old thread but here goes... I have just been prescribed the 30's and every pharmacy I've been to either doesn't carry them or they are totally out. Is anyone else having this issue. Most of the pharms say they've either never heard of it, or can't get it.

Any pharmacy has a right to turn anyone away. I think it sucks, bc they can lie to you if they don't like the way you look or are against it. Like birth control. They can refuse to fill if they are against after morning pill bc in their mind it's different. I was told to go near a hospital pharmacy bc of hospitals writing them for patients being released. Or find a pharmacy that isn't a chain. Like Cvs, Walgreens. Walmart is usually good. I also dress nice and try and get my mother to go also. Looks are the deal. If they don't have it in stock ask them nicely to order them. Sometimes I say that I just moved to the area with my mother to take care of her and they seem to change tunes.

Old post but curious if you were able to get the generic opana?

Hey Leigh, yea I thought it was,a recent post myself but no. Anyways I do get the generic Opana called oxymorphone ER. I've been on them for about 2yrs. They work GREAT I think it's the best ER med out there aside from Fentynl of course. I'm still worried that with this OPANA RECALL that it will trickle down to the oxymorphones I know it's not a true generic but still. So do you get prescribed them or no? I'm just trying to reach out to as many people as I can to see how or if others are being affected by this recall. Hope to hear back

Yes. I also am prescribed. Unfortunately my doctor is out of network so I'm paying out of pocket and it's Hefty.. I'm really hoping someone knows of a discount card that will help (if you do also know?). But as of now, I have not been affected....YET. I've done a little research and as far as I know they had only pulled Opana ER and I don't even know for sure if the FDA has asked Global/Impax to discontinue altogether. I do know that Global had responded to comments and stated that they believe the medicine helps more than it causes issues. Meaning the good outweighs the bad. But that was June 8th so we shall see. But shares and stocks are still being sold and the price is only raising as they're aren't competitors. This med has changed my life. I have a quality life because of it. I was on Percocet, Tizanidine, Soma, even Valium and others. I have been able to cut everything out with the oxymorphone.

Hey old post but if you are still prescribed oxymorphones, do you have insurance? Or do you pay out of pocket?

Re: Rleigh (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

Hey sorry, but I don't know of a discount card for this med, doesn't mean there isn't one but I highly doubt it. I have insurance and I had to jump thru so many hoops to get this med approved. I mean stuff I've never even heard of before. I actually had the owner of the PM clinic help me out and step in and take over the process cause they were just asking way too many weird requests but I finally got them approved; but at 3-month intervals and I'm good till October. I have to reapply again after that. That is if they're still on the market to get. I've been hearing a bunch of different stories from everyone on this site saying that the generic oxymorphone ER is going away also, so I called the owner of my PM and he said only the brand name Opana ER is getting pulled, as of September 1st. I know that is true cause my insurance company sent me a letter in the mail. But they said nothing about the generic. Hope this helped, and by the way, what have you heard personally about the Global/Impax?

Re: Rawdog (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for responding. I can't begin to imagine that someone else has gone through the ringer with insurance company covering this med. That's awful. But I'm finally set up with my doctor and my pharmacy but they are out of network and a single month cost me $400 after the massive amounts of discount cards. But if I have to ask 100 people in hopes they know of a great card or program I will. Without asking you too much, I'm a little surprised you've been able to aquire 3 months at a time? I'm hesitant to ask my Doc now because I think he likes the patient pay the monthly visit. But I can live with that. It's the $500 a month for one medication (and visit) that has changed my life. I have M.S. and in 2 years I have stopped all other medications. This helps control so much more than pain. My Anxiety is way down and my Chronic Migraine ( vision) are maybe 4-5 a month instead of double. So I ask if you come across a program, Discount card or know of a doctor who takes Health Plan of Nevada, or just a way to cut cost please message/post here

Re: Rleigh (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

Like I said I don't know of a discount card. I just filled my oxymorphone 30mg ER again at my pharmacy with no problems. I do have to re-apply for my 3 months of coverage again but my friend at the PM clinic takes care of it for me and always gets me taken care of. He is the best and does not take no s*** from these insurance companies, so I hope everything goes well again in a few days. Please keep me posted. Thank you.

Re: Rawdog (# 14) Expand Referenced Message

I apologise for the duplicate message asking about the discount card. I have just had a hard time getting the cost down. I have insurance but it's been the biggest run around. But it seems to be getting clearer what it is that I need to do. I have been able to eliminate all other medications but the oxymorphone er. I have a Quality of life. Things are clear and pain managed. So it's scary when I don't know what each month holds.

Re: Rleigh (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

Have you tried this site's rx discount card at all? I know there's a price lookup tool where you can look up the drug and quantity of your prescription to see if there is any savings at nearby pharmacies. Please let us know if you have any luck.

Re: Aerial (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry, I can't tell you who or where my doctor is. It wouldn't help anyways, I live in Florida. As far as finding a spot to fill I just got REALLY lucky and fill at a major chain store where the girls there take great care of me and both pharmacist know me on a first name basis and they ALWAYS have my meds in stock never have to wait for them to order them. But the only suggestions I have for you is to try some mom and pop spots they usually can get or order anything and they make a repeat customer
