Oxycontin Prescription Guidelines Tx

My wife has been in pain management for 12 + years. She is on 20 mg x 3 a day. What is the protocol for filling long term prescriptions we are having a problem getting hers filled the way they are written. For the last year he has written her a prescription for six months (six different prescriptions dated monthly) since she is one of his most stable patients. This saves us on office visits and she is subject to random drug panels. There has been no problem filling them for the past year until today, the pharmacy is refusing to fill them as written.

Yes, they are not supposed to be post-dated and the pharmacy isn't supposed to fill them like that. According to regulations, she should be seen by her doctor each month and a new prescription written each time.

Additionally, if she's not suffering intractable pain from a terminal condition, such as stage 4 cancer, then the maximum they should be written for are 2 a day of the Oxycontin.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Has she discussed the issue with her doctor?

The law doesn't allow those types of prescriptions to be written now except month to month. Many doctors will not even write one so people do end up at pain management.

Do you really think they dont know this? You sound like Perdues rep explaining "if you've been taking it awhile, you will experience sickness that is specific to the drug given"... but addicted? Of course not! They made BILLIONS making and selling this big old load and were fined what 60 million? Time for a name change and new territories, who cares about the bottom feeders like us...
