Oxycontin Op 40

Updated

Got my script filled a few days and didn't notice til today that they're OPs. I've also been sick for the past few days - Do OPs make anyone else sick? Lightheaded, dizzy, sleepy, nauseous, flu-like, can't function. Have taken OCs for years and never had these problems.

Yes, there have been many complaints that they are not as effective and that they cause odd side effects.

I am sorry to read that you are having a problem. I suggest reporting the issue to both Purdue and the FDA at the following numbers:

Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:

888.726.7535

FDA MedWatch number:

800-332-1088

Thanks Verwon: Spoke with my Doc yesterday and she said it sounds like I'm going through some withdrawal because folks aren't digesting the new OP fully. One of her patients can't take it because the gummy-ness makes it impossible to swallow. Another patient said they pass right through her with no sign of dissolving. I hope with so so so many complaints they'll change back to old formula - This is a disaster!!

Same here, for Neuropathy. I have all of the above symptons plus Hot and Cold flashes, Anxiety Attacks and Yawning. I am presently 65 years of age and I've been on OCs for 10+ years. Now, I've had to take extra pills and will will soon run out. I am afraid that the manufavtuerer's good intentions have backfired. Drug abusers will swith to Heroin while legitimate users.will have to endure. Thanks for the above data. How do I convince my doctor about all this - I can't take much more?

Yes, I'm having anxiety and tremors, I'm jumpy, and also have hot/cold flashes. I'm just trying to keep a steady state of Oxy in my system by taking short-acting 15 mg. And a supply of ginger ale and saltine crackers for the nausea. But this is no way to live - the horrid pain is bad enough, we shouldn't have to be sick due to Purdue's change in formula. I wish you luck! If anyone finds any helpful remedies, please let us know.

Triple Nickel - regarding how to talk to your doctor, it depends on his/her familiarity with your condition - does he/she understand the level of pain that goes with your illness? I have found that if the doctor has little experience with a particular illness, they just ignore it, like it doesn't exist, or downplay it, like you're over-reacting. I finally found a doctor who knew exactly what I was talking about during our first visit. She has worked with me for years now - she's willing to try anything drug-wise, including medical marijuana, she got me my wheelchair through Meidcare, and customized braces, etc. I'm very lucky to have her - I don't have to fight to convince her that my symptoms are real.

On the other hand, we're out of options right now - I can't take the other narcotics because they make me unbearably anxious.

How long have you worked with your doc? does he/she have the necessary knowledge to treat you

I went through the same thing. I thought I had a virus. It was withdrawals and side-effects.

Triple Nickel:
I would suggest printing out copies of complaints to bring to your doctor as there are many.

I was switched to oxycontin op's with the transition and have found the polymer gives me considerable gas and cramping. I don't believe it's withdrawal because I went off of the meds for a month, and the first dose back of the reformulation did exactly the same thing. My MD said many of his patients are also complaining of the same thing. I'm wondering if an enzyme like beano might help digest it- it may not be specific to break down these types of bonds.

The only thing that worked for "me" - to forestall withdrawal symptoms - was to take a Oxycodone IMMEDIATE RELEASE tablet at the same time I took the Oxycontin OP dosage. WARNING: I am a 10+ year patient PRESCRIBED Oxycontin. I AM NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR. For me, Oxycontin OP tablets take approximately 2 - 3 hours to take effect. Effectiveness is about 75% of Oxycontin OC. Basically, Purdue has curtailed drug store robberies at the expense of its patients and the insurance companies since the new patent prevents Generic Oxycontin.

My bf has been going through some of the same things discussed above! I myself used to abuse them....but i have been drug free for almost 3 years now! I find that his side affects are due to the new formula.

I think if enough people who are taking this med, and the complaints keep coming they will bring the med back. I think A LOT of people out there think prescription meds are OK being prescribed by a doctor......but these doctors are also the ones to blame as well.

I went in the hosp for a car accident not too long ago and they were quick to throw me a script even after I had told them I used to abuse them. So the doctors are just as much to blame as the people abusing them.

S**t have u seen the news.....the one guy (doctor) was selling them to students cause the office was right across or adjacent from the school.

I mean we have control over what we put in our body's.....but I have done A LOT of drugs in my time and only being 27 and doing pot, cocaine, exstacy (however u spell it), any opiate in pill form and then when it got BAD heroin,

The pills caused me to go to H, cause the pills were getting too expensive and i needed to many when i could get a bag for much less and be high all day (BY THE WAY NEVER USED A NEEDLE)!!!! It gets a hold of you.....and when the doc says take this med 2 times a day and people tend to like the feeling of opiates, and the ultimate HIGH it gives you.

I can honestly say......was the high AMAZING, yes, was it worth losing everything I had and bringing me to where it brought me NO!!!!!! but taking 1/2 a pill a day is what started this whole ball rolling. Its not like I went from 3 ocs a day and then went straight to heroin. I started with hydro's 1/2 a one a day and then graduated myself over a 1 1/2 years. Same thing happened to my sister, her bf and my bf at the time.

The doc like I said are just as much to blame as the addict to let it get to that point.

I was wondering what to expect after taking time to report these issues to the FDA and Purdue? Purdue received a new patent for "gumming" up a very successful medication. Why should the manufacturer care about patients receiving "aggressive" treatment of their pain, if they can appease the enforcement agencies to receive a new patent, keeping generics off the market? Why are the patients being made to suffer so much, just to make it a little more difficult for addicts to abuse the ingredient? Was there even a test run on the reformulation - on humans - before re-releasng it?
