Overly Drowsy While On Subutex

I was addicted to oxy for 6 years. I've been taking subutex 8mg tabs for about 3 years now. I am currently prescribed 3-4 tablets per day (up to 32 mg/day). I have done countless hours of research online about subutex and drowsiness (really bad drowsiness), and have found nothing. I'm wondering if anyone who is prescribed as much as myself has some sort of routine or advice to stay feeling good but without all the drowsiness. I usually take 1/2 pill six different times throughout the day (as needed)...I'm scared as to how my body might react/overdose if I take 2,3,4 pills all at once, so I spread them out. Another question is...am I currently taking too much? Because sometimes I feel as though I could manage the whole day with only taking 1/2 pill and stockpiling the rest FOR TAPERING because I here about how bad tapering can be and that you should have backup. And my last question is I've heard that there is a ceiling effect and that after so many mg's your just wasting the stuff anyway, if that's true, is there a max?? My doctor isn't going to be able to answer these type of questions because he has not takin' the drug for himself so why bother, I need to find a couple friends that are going through the same thing, maybe we could text or something. I'm 29 years old and need some advice.

Hello! I am very sorry about the problem that you're having.

The maximum dose for addiction treatment is 32mgs a day, but that doesn't necessarily mean that is the right dose for you. If you are suffering such extreme drowsiness, then it is likely too much for you. You may need to speak to your doctor about it and try a lower dose for awhile to see what happens.

The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
