Orange Amneal Generic Suboxones

Updated

I've always gotten the orange Amneal marked AN 415. Recently in the past few months the main pharmacy I was using Walgreens were telling me that they were out of those kind and I had to look for pharmacies that did have them after receiving the white Actavis brand which was the worst switch! I just looked right next door to Safeways who did have them. Eventually Walgreens told me they were no longer going to be getting those kind after telling me that they were on "back order" for so long. The pharmacist who is usually nice was a jerk about it also. So I moved permanently (or so I hoped) to Safeway but the last 2 months they too ran out and were allot nicer in telling me that they have been having a hard time ordering the Amneal orange ones and that they might not be getting them at all anymore come Monday. (I get my scripts Saturdays) I don't know the significance of Monday. However, I searched pharmacies yet again and found some at a smaller grocery store pharmacy. I know quite a few people in my area who also like the orange ones. I noticed them in the pharmacy I go to now this past weekend when I was getting mine so we are all obviously having difficulty finding these kind because they were all going to Walgreens and Safeway as well when I was. I'm just wondering if any body else who takes these kind are having issues getting them as well in their areas? I looked at the drig shortage list with the FDA and I have yet to see Amneal tablets on that list. I'm worried that once again I will have to find a different ppharmacy that carries these and thats just a hassle in my area we are small and our pharmacies are few and the nearest town with more pharmacies is about an hour and a half drive from here.

Hello Marie,

Just like you I took a look at the drug shortage list and searched for any indication as to why you might be experiencing this. I also didn't see anything useful, then I looked up the manufacturers website to see if I could find some sort of indication there in their press releases, still nothing. As a last effort I did a few google searches to see if anyone else was experiencing this issue, nothing.

Since I was unable to find any reasoning as to why you would be having trouble getting your medicine I can really only think of a few options. There could have been a price change in the Amneal generic which is deterring the pharmacies from picking up that brand. There could also be an issue where a different large corporation, such as Walmart or CVS, switched to the Amneal generic and bought them in such a large quantity that it caused a temporary shortage in your area. The problem is at this point I'm really just taking shots in the dark because only the pharmacies really know why they aren't able to get this generic and since they want to keep you as a customer they are not likely going to tell you anything substantial.

It seems like you already understand the benefit of pharmacy shopping when it comes to getting the specific brand you want. I know you mentioned being in a small area but if you happen to have a mom and pop shop I would suggest giving them a shot, though they may have a slight price increase they are touted as being much more likely to get your specific brand.

Best wishes and good luck.

Thank you for your response. I did my research same as you and read through so many forums and could find nothing on shortages of those kind. As it turns out I went to fill the rest of my prescription today which was about 8 days worth so 20 of them and was told AGAIN at the newer pharmacy I'm using that they don't have anymore of those and when I asked when they would have some in I was once again told they would no longer be getting those kind. Super frustrated again. Lately since this has been happening I always ask the pharmacist before I have my doctor send my prescription to that pharmacy if they have enough of that kind to fill a whole script and I usually try to grab all at once but this time I only had enough to grab 50 and had plans to grab the other 20 today which I had told the pharmacist I was going to do as well. So I am starting to get frustrated that this keeps happening and I am starting to think the pharmacies are possibly discriminating against me. I try not to think like that. I don't have any bad encounters with pharmacies in my life. I even had a situation with Walgreens where they gave me more than they were supposed to more than what I paid for and I called that next day and informed them of their mistake and they were extremely grateful. I am honest like that and I just can't understand why I might be dealing with this when there's no indication of any shortages on this medication anywhere besides from the pharmacists themselves. I thought about emailing the company itself but I couldn't figure out how to do that when I looked up their website. The pharmacist now told me i could call and see if another pharmacy had them and transfer the rest. I had no idea I could even do that if I already filled most of them there. I guess I plan to look up the other 2 pharmacies in the area and hope they can transfer the rest of my meds over if they dont have I guess I dont mind traveling the hour or so to get some if I have to. Totally frustrating. Sorry for the rant.

Re: Marie (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Try not to get too discouraged, there is likely an explanation of why this is happening. As I stated before, pharmacies are companies and the problem is they don't have to share their reasons for doing anything. If I had to take a shot in the dark I would say something has increased the cost of the Amneal brand for your area and that's why all of the pharmacies are no longer stocking it.

I live in Kentucky and have been having the same issues!! All I've been told by my pharmacist is he's put orders in but never gets them bc there was a shortage on them where there in such high demand. I've been searching the internet as well for why all the pharmacies around me are out of the an 415 and camt find crap!! I've tried many different kinds of generic suboxone tablets and I don't care for to many if them. The orange hexagon with N8 and arrow gave me a bad headache! The white N8 with arrow isn't bad. I just now got a new prescription for 2 weeks worth of one with 970 on them and I hope these are alright but what I've found on the internet it doesn't seem like it's going to be to promising. Plus the ones with 970 on them burn a little when first placed under my tongue! There was some other light colored oranges ones that I don't care for either and white ones with half moon on one side. They seemed alright for one or 2 days then they seem not to work. My pharmacist kinda laughs at everyone who comes in and says something about not liking any of these others bc they don't have the same effect as the an 415!! I just wish my insurance company would start paying for the strips again!!

Re: Krystal (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for replying. I was so glad I was able to find a pharmacy with the Amneal ones recently but all they had were a little over 70 so just enough for my script this month. I'm hoarding them like crazy because I know this might be the last time I get these. I assumed a shortage because I looked on the manufacturers website and they aren't discontinued or anything. Those Sun Pharma 970 ones are awful and I absolutely hate the white Actavis moon ones and the peach 54 something ones with the numbers. I am curious to try the Mallinckrodt orange 8n/m ones though. Amneals are listed on Mallinckrodts website as well so I'm hoping they will be similar. The N8 ones with arrow are you talking about the original Suboxone orange pills? I know those were discontinued years ago. I just haven't heard of any oranges with an arrow being out recently. Have you gotten those recently? I wonder how long it will take before pharmacies can start getting the Amneals again then. It sucks!

The pharmacy told us today that they're supposed to be getting them in at the end of this month!! You can't find the orange hexagon ones (with n8 on one side and an arrow on the other) on the internet, or at least I couldn't. I've gotten those about a month ago and called my pharmacy today and that's why went somewhere different. All I can find online was the orange hexagon with n8 and m on the other!! Haven't had those with the m on the other side yet. I dont even know if any pharmacy has them around here or not. Like I said though for me they gave me a huge headache and seemed like I had taken nothing just taking a half which I usually do throughout the day. I ended up having to take a whole one before it felt like it was working!! There's a new white one as well with n8 on one side and an arrow on the other supplied by hi-tech pharmaceutical co. My husband and I like those almost as much as the an 415. A lot of others I've talked to don't like them though. It's so weird how some people like different ones than others.

Re: Krystal (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

Omg no way! How do they know? Maybe theres still hope for the pharmacies in my area then. My husband and I both only like the Amneals and I was so glad to get mine this last time but I pay cash and he uses a tribal clinic since we are native american and he can only use that clinic pharmacy. He is not able to switch pharmacies like I am able to. His pharmacy usually gives out the Amneals but this last month he got a full script of the orange 970s and he was so bummed. Mine was only half filled with orange 970s last time and last week I managed to find a pharmacy with enough to fill my whole script with Amneals. So hopefully he is able to get Amneals this week as well. I do still want to try those orange 8n hexagon ones though. I was going to talk to my pharmacy and see if there was an option to get some of those sometime. Oh btw I changed my username or nickname on this so still Marie lol. Thanks for replying. I posted the same question on other forums but they weren't very helpful in getting responses.

Re: Krystal (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

Did your pharm end up getting them then??? Or do you know anything more? I get my next script this weekend and I will start calling tomorrow to see if I can get some Amneals again. I was able to try one n8/m orange hexagon this month but it was definitely not very good. So I'm def going to try sticking with Amneals if I can. Just curious if you were ever able to get any or if your pharm ended up getting them. I felt like if they had a date for them that maybe other pharmacies would start getting some in as well. Going to hope for the best!

Re: Krystal (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Well hoping for the best for you as well! If you happen to get them tomorrow and you get a sec could you let me know how it goes when you go in tomorrow? If you were able to get them or not? I call around tomorrow afternoon for mine so my doc can call them in Saturday. Hoping it goes smoothly for me. I was able to have Amneals this month but I really hate switching pharmacies all the time and I hate calling and asking for a specific especially when I'm not familiar with a pharmacy. Just hoping if your pharmacy has a date to get some maybe others do as well. Like the ones in my area.

Re: Krystal (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Our area got Amneals again! I got mine at the same pharmacy as last month which was crazy to me because last month they stated they only had a little over 70 left but they got more in because I filled my whole script with Amneals yesterday and a couple friends of mine who also like the Amneals got them from their pharmacies yesterday as well. Hope you were able to get yours too. Just wanted to update real quick!

Re: Nickles35 (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Hi I wanted to warn you all about the Mallinckrodts suboxone.. the look like the old brand babe suboxone which I used for 5 years before switch in to Subutex but lately I've been getting some extra Suboxone because my doctor cut my dose way down. Anyways I had never tried the generic Suboxone until last year and got the activis white moons and they were ok. Then out of the blue my friend started getting the Mallinckrodts and I had no information on on them but I thought hey they look ok how bad could they be..! Truns out really really bad!! I'm not exaggerating but I took 8 mg daily which should be enough to keep me from withdrawing. After 24 hours I stated to feel awful like I didn't take any buprenorphine at all it was almost like they were packed with naloxone and little to no buprenorphine at all. I suffered for a week with these and I yelled at my friend and told him not to get these garbage pills again and he said he also felt crappy as discussed others who got them. Then ladt month I got the amneal brand for the first time and they were way better! 8 mg was plenty to get through the day you could tell they were better quality and you could taste the buprenorphine. After 12 years on these meds I can taste it along with the consistency of the pill and know if it's any good before it actually kicks in. I used brand names Suboxone and Subutex for years so I am a stickler for quality generic s now. Just a warning about the Mallinckrodts THEY ARE GARBAGE.

Re: Bobby (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for your input I did have a chance to try one of those Mallinkcrodt orange hexagon ones this past month through a friend as well and it was not very good. I would go as far to say they did seem a little better than those newer orange Sun Pharma ones though. I guess I didn't try enough to really form a good opinion on it. I think I am just terribly picky as well and when I'm used to something I like to stick with what I know. Then again I've always liked the brand name strips besides the Amneals. So you had no problem getting the Amneals then? Or your friend had no problem? I know most pharmacies in my area got some more in recently but last month was kind of sticky getting them because every pharmacy was out or had switched manufacturers.

Hi-Tec is the best in my opinion. They are fast-acting and potent. I have been on them for 6 years after trying most of the others except the orange half-moon ones.

These are the only Suboxone 8/2 mg tabs I want and need:

Amneal AN 415, round, orange. Also I have to cut a pill in half. NO OTHER BRANDS work. They crumble.

PROBLEM: I need to know which pharmacies have this company's Suboxone medicine? I live in West Linn, Oregon. Please list ALL PHARMACIES so I may continue using this best formula around.
