Off Lisinopril Yesterday And Still On Metropolol

Updated

I was put on lisinopril 6 months ago by my pcp. I have had different side effects that come and go during the entire time (dizziness, lightheaded, nausea, flushing, hot hands and feet, then tingling). About two weeks ago I had a lot of flushing, but my blood pressure was fine. In fact twice it dropped down too low, 80/53 then went right back up. One day my heart starts racing and fluttering. I think it's a panic attack, ignoring it, and long story short was admitted to the hospital with a new diagnosis of Afib with RVR. They finally helped convert me back to a sinus rhythm overnight. I'm now put on metoprolol, eliquis and am to continue taking my 10mg of lisinopril... During the next two weeks I see a cardiologist and tell him that I'm constantly anxious, always feel like I'm floating or having an out of body experience, very hard to explain. Pins and needles, all the above but magnified and my blood pressure is running around 106/73 and my heart rate is in the 70-80's. He states that it's a little low for his taste and takes me off the lisinopril. He states that the 25mg of metoprolol 2 times a day also lowers my blood pressure in addition to keeping my heart rate in check and that he doesn't like lisinopril, it probably hasn't been playing well with my body since I started taking it and see's a lot of issues with it. My question that I forgot to ask is, am I going to have withdrawal from lisinopril if I'm on metoprolol?

There most likely won't be any issues from stopping it, other than some minor elevations to your heart rate and blood pressure, for a week, or so, according to FDA reports.

If you start to experience severe elevations, you should seek medical attention.

How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

I had to get off lisinopril after 25 years because it was causing ANGIOEDEMA in most recent 2-3 years. I had to figure this out, my rocket scientist doctors could not. . I switched to Losartin and no problems at all no withdrawal issues etc. Went from 10 mg lisonopril to 100mg Losartin. Working perfectly.

I've just been switched from metoprolo to lisinopril . My heart rate was around 50 to 55. My PC thought this was a time to change. My dose is 10 MG a day. Just had a 'something" scare. Terrific grabbing pain in left side of chest that lasted about 30 minutes. Went away with no lingering anything. Just went away. I've been to a heart doctor and short of doing a heart cath, nothing has surfaced. I'm 80 so they really didn't want to do anything that invasive unless it hits again. My weight is climbing-like 2 pounds in 3 weeks. He has cut all my natural remedies out for 3 weeks and I go back for a Thyroid test. I've been on this new med for a week. Should some of these side effects have kicked in now? I don't really feel any different than I did on metoprolol.

I Google everything & read the side effects.... Metoprolol is lopresser (probably spelled it wrong), used for lowering blood pressure... I am on multaq 400mg 2X's per day & xarelto 25 mg, 1 in the PM.....Dr's in hosp. tried different drugs till they found out what was good for a-fib & congested heart failure...... I have improved soooo much. My heart is stronger and stays in rhythm.... Eliquis is good... I don't think that lisinopril & metoprolol should be used together... Google it....u shouldn't have any withdrawal from stopping lisinopril...been there done that....wish u all the best.

Hi Tony-- Just want to share my experience which may prove helpful to you. I was diagnosed with AFIB in December '16 and was put on Metoprolol and Eliquis. I experienced anxiety, bouts of depression, and insomnia, along with having crying jags out of nowhere in the middle of the day. Follow up at my cardiologist a few weeks later and she replaced the Metoprolol with Cartia ( Diltiazem ). 90% of my issues diminished except for the insomnia which may have been a result of my own anxiety. In my case, the calcium channel blocker was better for me than the beta blocker Metoprolol . Few months go by and two failed cardioversions later, I'm currently taking the Cartia and now Xarelto, which my doctor gave me after I complained about the Eliquis (which I thought was causing the insomnia).

On the positive side, I'm down 45 lbs. in the last six months, eating better, exercising, and have made consistent efforts to reduce my stress and improve the quality of life I cultivate for myself. My AFIB, while still present, has diminished considerably. I am scheduled for a catheter ablation in a few weeks and I'm hoping to be completely off the meds by the end of this year if ablation proves successful.

The experience of having AFIB is a journey and you have to speak up and be your own advocate if you suspect a medication isn't compatible with your body. Read everything you can but be objective with what you read. I've learned that the doctors don't always tell us everything about potential side effects with a drug and I've learned to speak up.

I wish you all the best!

Just to share my experience with an AFIB diagnosis in December, they put me on Eliquis and Metoprolol and I experienced anxiety, insomnia, and depressed mood with crying jags until they took me off the Metoprolol and replaced it with Cartoa/Diltiazem, which is a calcium channel blocker versus the beta-blocker Metoprolol. I felt much more normal after going off the Metoprolol. Hope you can benefit from my experience. Good luck and good health!
