Ocycontin Vs Opana - Medicare Coverage

One pharmacy states an all out rejection of coverage for OxyContin, referring Opana instead. Another pharmacy requires a PA. How can this be?

What type of insurance do you have?

I assume that these decisions are based on that. One pharmacy may not be aware that it can be covered with prior authorization.

The FDA classifies this medications as being narcotic analgesics that carry the risk of being habit forming. They may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

Which one has your doctor recommended?

I am covered by Medicare Part D, and use WellCare.
Doctor has prescribed OxyContin ER 15mg. 2x daily for severe pain under foot after surgery. As I do not drive, and usually end up walking a good 5 miles per day, the foot is not healing at the "typical" rate, which is requiring atypical treatment.
