Nuzak Or Venlor For Anxiety And Ptsd?

Updated

Between nuzak and venlor, which is better? I have been suffering from panic attacks from a young age, and 6 years ago my sister died (suffocated) in front of me, also 2 children later and I feel extremely unwell from anxiety and ptsd. Which would be better? I google too much and it makes me scared.

There is really no way to say, since we are all different. What works well for you might not work for me, and so on.

The NIH does warn that they cause similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, mood changes, and weight changes.

Are you on any other medications?

I am so very sorry about your sister, that would be horrible, and a memory you can't let go of.

Just for reference in case anyone else has an opinion Nuzak is the same active ingredient as Prozac (Fluoxetine) a SSRI and Venlor has the same active ingredient as Effexor (Venlafaxine) an SNRI.

In my opinion people who are prone to anxiety and panic attacks, or have PTSD (like myself as well) are better off trying an SSRI. In your case that would be Nuzak.

The Venlor inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine which can actually cause anxiety as it is a hormone/neurotransmitter that is basically our body's form of adrenaline. During a panic attack this is what our body releases from the kidneys. It causes the "fight or flight" response and thus elevates the heartrate and blood flow which can exacerbate the anxiety and symptoms of panic mania.

I have tried Lexapro and Prozac and neither helped my panic disorder/PTSD. You may consider older versions of anti-depressants like trazodone, which has a fast onset sedating effect. Of course it would always be ideal to have something like alprazolam or lorazepam on hand while your body adapts to drugs like Nuzak, as they take 3-5 weeks to really start working. That is if they work for you at all.

Constant anxiety is no way to live and panic attacks are one of the worst feelings in the world. Worse than pain in my opinion. I wish you the best of luck.
