Nucynta Er Useless

Updated

I am a doctor who treats and "enjoys" a chronic pain problem. My PCP suggested nucynta. We tried it for several months, and I tried it on some of my patients. From my experience in both realms I feel confident in stating that nucynta ER is complete crap! It neither helped me, nor anyone I prescribed it for. I am quite sure that tha pharmaceutical company, however, is pleased with the profits.

Hello, Tbone! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you and your patients had with the Nucynta.

It seems to have worked well for some, but to be quite honest, I've read many more complaints about it.

Did you report the issues to the FDA?

Yes, Nuycenta ER is a useless pain medication. I have been using a pain management clinic for over 10 years. I've been on fentanyl patches, 90mg morphine er, but mostly vicoprofen and now 10mg Norco. Between the vicoprofen (7.5mg/209mg ibuprofen) and the Norco (10mg hydrocodone/325 APAP) my doctor tried me on a Butrans patch (completely useless) and Nucyenta ER, I forget the strengths but both were horrible. I spent 6-7 months in misery, I am now very hesitant to mention the possibility of any changes though I do think a switch to oxy ir would help me. He approved the newer hydromorphone er med but insurance would not pay for it, and it is expensive. I do pretty well with Norco because I can take less when I have a better day and more on a bad day... but Nuycenta ER and Butrans are both BAD NEWS if you need pain relief. You might try Cymbalta. It worked VERY well for me but had weird sexual side effects (male). It is a really good medication for nerve pain (is there another kind... but you know what I mean I think).

I am completely disabled and live with chronic pain 24 seven. The producers of the drug New center should be ashamed of their self. It is all a money thing.

I've been on multiple medications for chronic pain for years, including over 300mg a day of opiates in various forms. I have decreased my dosage in the last 2-3 years, through various therapies and new treatments, and one of the best things for me has been Nucynta ER. I am no longer on daily oxycodone (have it for extreme flareups). AND I don't suffer with withdrawals when I haven't taken it reccently, and don't wake up with a huge dip in my pain in the morning.

SO I think like many medications, it depends on your body chemistry, and I have talked to others who have found it to be helpful and not, so I wouldn't discount it because you haven't heard of it helping people.
