Nostrilla - What Happened To It? (Top voted first)

Updated

All of a sudden Nostrilla has disappeared from the shelf of my CVS (which is the only place locally that I was ever able to find it). Online sites have is listed as out of stock. Was it discontinued, recalled, or what?

Insight Pharmaceuticals has recently changed the Nostrilla formula they have been using for years. They have added a preservative to it. The problem is, it makes many people's noses swell and burn for about 20-30 minutes and doesn't work as well. This Petition is to see is we can make our voices heard and help bring back a product many of us have used and loved for years. a petition link is below.

The old formula is still available at Amazon. I ordered a 7 pack and I too had been experiencing a nasty burning sensation and virtual ineffectiveness of the medicine during the past three to four months. I'm so glad Amazon still has a good stock of it in their supply. {affiliate link added}

I usually buy it at Walgreens but they havent had it for quite awhile and nobody else has either. I called 4 stores today and the last one told me about the recall. I had not heard about it. I have tried 4 other products and none work.......I need my Nostrilla!! Hope they get it fixed soon!

I also have been trying to find a replacement for Nostrilla. I have tried Afrin and Neosenifrin(sp). Nothing works except Nostrilla. I pray it comes back.

NOSTRILLA = LIFE SUPPORT

Before the recall, when I used to buy Nostrilla a lot; this product kept be breathing especially since I can't afford to have surgery to have my nose fixed (causing me breathing problems) thereby allowing me to breathe properly, therefore I depend on Nostrilla from time to time. After the recall, all the Nostrilla disappeared and I tried other nasal decongestant products and they worked for a while, but definitely not as good or as well as Nostrilla does. Let's just say, when my nose stops working, I can't really breathe 100% or as easily, its more like 0.01% and I'll have to make a choice between eating solid food or drinking liquids or breathing. I can't do it all easily since my nasal passage is completely blocked due to high volumes of mucus and such and due to the rebound effect of Nostrilla. Yes, the product has its side effects, but its my last resort for the time being and I'm glad its back on the shelves at CVS once more. Though its a lot cheaper online than at CVS!

Nostrilla's ingredients have been changed. I bought a new bottle recently, used it, and experienced burning, sore throat and a whole lot of mucus. The burning lasted for a full 15 minutes. I no longer can use this product. I contacted the company to ask if they have the old product with the old formula available, and they replied - no. The new ingredient is chlorhexadine. This is an antiseptic and that has to be where the burning sensation is coming from. I used this product for years and years, and when they had the recall, I was able to order from the company itself, so that is who I wrote to this time. Why would they change their formula? It was the best, now, for me at least, it is unusable.

Damn it. The same happened to me. I've been using Nostrilla for the past 6 years and nothing else (but European Olynth) works for me. But recently I got Nostrilla, and realized it no longer works as it used to. It burns my nose for 30 min, but real bad. And then I am back at square one. Wtf?

I have used many diff brands over the years, Afrin was the best....until I tried Nostrilla. I have been using it for at least 10 years now. However, the last batch I ordered...(I order online at least 6 at a time as I and my hubby use it) burns and stings really bad...Stopped and purchased a new bottle at local CVS and it burns really bad also. I think they must have changed the formula in the last 3 months. HATING IT!!

I've had this same problem with the burning and I thought maybe my nose was just really irritated due to chronic allergies. I had a couple of bottles around the house, one burned and one didn't. At that point I knew something had changed. I'm very upset as I've been using this product for seven years. Can't they find a preservative that doesn't burn so much? It's like the New Coke back in the '80s--a really terrible idea!

OMG, I'm so glad to know that I am NOT alone in purchasing different batches of the nasal spray. It has caused severe burning and stinging and I have had to take them back several times to the store! it has gotten to the point where I have had to go to the different stores looking for certain Nostrilla sprays with the lot number that does not sting. whatever they have done recently they need to go back because there are a lot of dissatisfied customers in a lot of temporary pain.

Why is Nostrilla off the shelves at Walgreens? Unbelievable, it was the only thing that worked. What's up?

I believe certain batches of Nostrilla were recalled due to a concern over contaminated water being used. I can't find it either.

That is correct, there was recall on the Nostrilla 12-Hour Nasal Decongestant Spray back on September 20, 2011, due to the potential presence of a microbial contaminant.

It contains the active ingredient Oxymetazoline and it is used in several similar products that you might want to try, as an alternative, until there is a new supply of Nostrilla on the shelves.

They are listed as being Afrin, Sudafed OM, Dristan, Vicks Sinex and Mucinex Full Force.

You can also try asking the pharmacist to help you find one.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Here's the information from the recall notice:

(UPC 0036373673005, Batch/Lot 11G075

That is the only product affected, according to the listing. They say it may be returned for a refund, until 10/19/11
