No One Will Tell Me If The Doctor Has Ordered Too Much Pain Meds (2 Tabs Morphine 15mg + 5 Hydrocodone 10 325mg + Gabapentin 800mg 3 Times Daily)

Updated

Will someone answer this question for me? My doctor will not lower meds and i am not awake enough to take them as ordered. My doctor will drop me if his orders are not followed.

If you are sleeping that much, then yes, there is a possibility that you are taking too many medications, but only you can really decide that.

What type of doctor are you seeing? It really makes no sense for him to refuse to lower medications, if necessary. What is his reasoning for it?

Most doctors are far too conservative the other way and are afraid of prescribing too much.

For anyone else in this boat, the doctor is referring to the fact that when he gives you a u.a., you had better have the opiates he prescribed in your system or else he will think you are diverting your medications. Also this post sounded trollish but others might actually be in this situation where they don't exactly understand why the doctor says something like this.

I'm with ur first reply I have a very rare disease and one Dr I was seeing was prescribing me percocet 5/325 and when that was no longer working he automatically put me on 100mg morphine a day plus 8 percocet 10s I want back the very next day and told him it was wayyy to much but he wouldn't adjust it till I went bk the next month I think some Dr's get paid to push certain things regardless of what it may do too US only YOU know that your body can handle I'm sure a lot of other Dr's would b glad to see u and adjust ur dosage don't od because ur afraid of getting cut off

15mg of Morphine Sulfate X2 a day isn't to bad IF YOU TAKE EVERY 12 HRS(1-15mg of morphine) As for the "Break through Meds" is.....Norc or Perc. Just bcoz they prescribe X5 a day doesn't mean you hve to take 5 a day. I wld cut back on the Norc. The Morphs are long term. The Norc r for "break through" pain. So if you dnt need 5 don't take 5 mayB start w 2or 3 a day of Yr Norcs. DONT wait till you hurt to take yr norc. Then they dnt work as well. As for the Norotin (gabapintin) Those are more to dull n e nerve pain and if you 1 n the am & 2 at night it should b fine! Good Luck!

I've been on 7.5 /325 percocet. 4x/day. Gabepentin 300 4x/day. Soma 350 3x/day.
A few months ago they put me on morphine ER . ALL GENERIC ... I was told I was on the maximum for most of this medication.

Just reading some of this information sHow's I was lied to. I don't want to be on the maximum but I don't want to be in pain. I'd like to be able to get out of bed in the morning.

Your lucky to get them. I can't understand how you have such a great doctor, when most people can't get a Tylenol 3. My advice save the extras for a time when you won't be so fortunate.

I think you are not being truthful with me or your Doctor.. he would not over prescribe .. Since you seem to need attention, beware of Opiate and get some help?

Hey if your doctor is prescribing all of those drugs yes there is a problem. Nobody should expect you to be able to function on that amount. I am a Nurse and I was on that crap for years 9+ years, recently detoxed and it was pure Hell! Seriously honey it's time to find a new doctor! Especially when your pain is legitimate! There is real relief out there! I hope you are not driving on that much pain meds! I have not found the answer yet myself, However I refuse to believe that drugs are the total answer! I was never on that much medication. Nobody can advocate for you But You! It's your body, Don't let them destroy all of your organs, etc. Please tell him how you feel. If he doesn't listen call your insurance company and find out your other options! Nobody can expect you to continue to do something you are obviously uncomfortable with! Good Luck! I wish you the Best! I will Pray that everything comes out the way it's supposed to!

I don't know about the morphine, but I take 4 Norcos and five Gabapentins a day, and they work fine for me. I was also taking 10 mgs. of morphine a day right after a Whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer last year, but that was only for breakthrough pain and was only for thirty days. If I am not mistaken, Norco is supposed to have a maximum dose of 4 times a day; someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that. Otherwise, unless you are taking the morphine for breakthrough pain, it does seem like a bit much for one day. You might ask you doc why he feels like you need so much medication when you obviously feel otherwise; you are entitled to know his reasoning.

Stay away from Gabapentin, the side affects are horrible, lots of doctors now are not prescribing it.

A doctor will not drop you if you don't need to take as much medicine as they give you. They will if it's over used or abused and you take more than what they recommend and you ask for refills too soon. It's your body. Just because a doctor gives you medicine to manage pain does not mean you have to take it if your body doesn't need it.

Hope the original poster has solved her problem. It has been 6 years. The laws are very different now too.

The other thing- there is NO way the Doc can tell exactly if the patient is following the scripts as written. They can check and see if Gabapentin, Morphine and Oxycodone is in her system. That's it. However if she is sleeping and not functioning to take the dose-the Dr. should be more concerned. I would stop using that Dr and seek another Dr for my health care. Today- with narcotics/opioids scripts being harder to get. This guy has a time clock on his arse! It is a matter of time before he has malpractice suit and patient negligence or responsible for patient deaths. I would seriously check the state board to see if there are any cited or pending judgments on him. I am not saying this out of slander but if he/she was MY DOC and was acting like that--- I would be going to azmed.gov [Arizona] and check out my Dr board certifications, etc. ALL information would be there. As for the meds. Now, pain management here in AZ ONLY can prescribe narcotics/opioids. And they do not go above a certain dose and will not give you them IF on Sleeping pills AND/OR Benzodiazepines. This is new. He had no problems for 2 years it is because of the increased deaths of prescription meds.

Before I went to Pain Management for back inj's., my Rheumatologist prescribed them. He gave me Morphine Sulfate ER 30 mg BID [twice a day] and MSIR 15 mg BID [twice a day as needed for breakthrough pain] that is what I have seen as a norm for breakthrough pain, not the other. There is no Acetaminophen which can upset the stomach more. BTW- Percocet or Oxycodone is available without Acetaminophen - if worried about toxicity tell your Dr.

Re: Psl772 (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

What? Neurontin saved me from the most SEVERE nerve pain in my LT leg, from RSD, AND it literally started to be therapeutic after 2 hours. In a few days after repeated ingesting, I was literally amazed at how efficacious the drug was.

I am on 1200mg (2 600mg tabs} 3 x's daily. I have NO SIDE EFFECTS WHATSOEVER. honestly, of course pharmacologic effects are subject to unique individual physiological happenstance.

I love the fact that this drug does what not even opiates could do. However, I'm not blind to the news that has slowly risen to the surface about its potential for abuse, but on a personal note I have to say WTF? I literally feel NO charge at all mentally after taking it. The desire to self medicate prematurely & too often, it's just not there for me. I have been through that, so I know the feeling of getting bliss from certain Rx's. However, I just wanted to say that there is a good chance that the drug will be beneficial to people who have severe peripheral nervous system damage. Which, as readers of this moment might, or might not know.
