Nitrofur Macr 100 Mg/ How Long Does It Take?

About how long does it normally take before you start feeling the effects? I am using it to treat a urinary tract infection.

It's hard to say how long it can take for you to "feel" the effects of a drug, as every drug can effect each individual differently. If you're curious about what the proper dosage should be for a UTI and how long you should be taking it for, then the information below will be very helpful in that regard:

"The recommended nitrofurantoin dosage for treating UTIs in adults is 50 to 100 mg four times daily, continued for at least three days after the infection has cleared. For uncomplicated infections, the lower amount is usually recommended. For long-term treatment to prevent UTIs in adults, a dose of 50 or 100 mg once daily at bedtime is usually sufficient."

Just took Nitrofur-MACR 100mg around 10:30 for a UTI. I think this is the worst one I have had to date! I also took 2 packages (3hrs apart) of the AZO. I am still in pain and don't think it's working fast enough!!! Should I suck it up and give more time to work or is it ok to take a hydrocodon pill that I have left over from a previous surgery?? I am not a very good medicine taker so I'm scared to mix anything. Perhaps i shoukd just take an advil??? Thanks for your help! :)

My doctor put me on nitrofur Macr for a bladder infection. I then received a call from the doctors office saying they had to put me on a different antibiotic, amoxiccilan, since my culture came back and was positive for a bladder infection. I explained that he put me on this antibiotic for a bladder infection what was so different in the culture that warranted a different antibiotic?

I have taken this for four days at 100 mg twice a day. I had what I thought to be a very mild UTI infection. I wasn't even sure I had one at first. I felt better on day two of the antibiotics. My symptoms were completely gone by day three and I felt completely fine. Today again no symptoms at all. I am prescribed to take this for 7 days. I am tempted no to take it after today, but I know I have to complete the prescription.

I have had no side effects, but have taken it during a meal, about half way through the meal and with lots of water. I have also been eating yogurt with probiotics as recommended by a friend. I have felt a bit dehydrated, so I have been drinking more water. But no nausea, which I was very afraid of when I found out I had to take antibiotics.

Hi, i went to the emergency room with very bad pain and it shows that i have a bladder infection. The doctor perscribed me Nitrofur-Macr and I have the worst nausea ever! is there anything i can do to stop this? i havent ate since friday, and when i attempt to eat i just throw up within 5 minutes... someone please help me the nausea hurts so bad and on top of this i have a baby i have to take care of on my own and i am in no type of shape to be feelin this bad and taking care of a mobile 8 month old!! HELPPPPP PLEASE :'(

I am taking it for a UTI, I was first put on Bactrim but it did not work, I went back to the doctor and he prescribed nitrofurtoin mono/mac, this is the third day, and I am still having the symptoms.

I have been on bactrim the complete dose it did not work. Started taking cipro almost finished and pain started back again. Now on micro bid and tonight is my first dose. Went to urgent care they final sent it off for a urine culture. My lower back hurts and pain runs down my legs. Please give me some feed back been dealing with this for almost 3 weeks now

I think what you do depends on why you are throwing up. If you were throwing up before the pill, then take medicine as prescribed and contact your doctor to let him know about this serious symptom with a uti. If the pill makes you throw up, call your doctor or a walk in clinic right away and see if you can take something else. Be sure to have your urine cultured so you can know that the new medicine prescribed is the right one for the job. If you're not too sick with it--Try drinking cranberry juice for prevention, just a glass before bedtime can do wonders! Hope everything goes well.

I have urinary tract infection. Did the urin culture test and base on that my doctor gave me Nitrofurantoin 100mg. For first 10 day every 6 hours,then for second 10 days every 12 hours and after that 20 days have to take once daily for three months. Started to feel better, but when I started to take the second 10 days I got yeast infection as well. Saw a doctor and got the right medication but, some how I felt those symptoms that I had for urinary infection, but not as severe as before.Mild one. Now I 'm confused if the thightness and sirens and some how abit frequents feeling that I have to go to washroom has to do with yeast or my urine infection?

Susceptibility. your culture probably showed that YOUR uti wasn't susceptible to macrobid. Therefore they had to change your meds to an antibiotic that it was susceptible to. when they run a culture they also try to treat it in the lab to see what antibiotic would take care of it.

I know this is old but i am taking this med too and what i have learned is to try and eat something with the dose . Maybe crackers or bland toast also drink with milk to coat the stomach lots of water too. I also had nausea but followed these steps which helped out a lot. Also if your dr can prescribe you . Anti- nausea meds as like zofran or phenegran they help a lo . I Hope this helps someone who may be suffering.

I just started my macrobid yesterday! Ever since my urine output has severely decreased! Im also having extreme abdominal pain! Will that all subside or should i go back to the doc?

UTI's in sexually active women are usually caused by a gram negative bacteria, which can be empirically treated with nitrofurantoin. Your urine culture must have come back as gram positive bacteria, which is better treated by amoxicillin.

I'm at the end of day #3 of macrobid and the first 2 nights I felt fine and the burning symptoms weren't bad...but omg! tonight it feels like a fire cracker going off down there. I've taken Tylenol for pain, I took an AZO.. I even took another macrobid pill (6 hrs since the one from dinner). I'm on the 7 day course but don't know if I should call my doctor back. I'm allergic to cipro, bactrim, and amoxicillin. ..I'm laying here with a heating pad not being able to sleep. This stinks. :(

I also had the pain down to my legs and lower back hurt so much. On my third day I am feeling a little better. No back pain. Curious as to whether you are healed after 3weeks.

The bacteria from your UTI was resistant to that type of antibiotic that they gave you so they had to give you a different antibiotic that they would know would kill the bacteria for sure I work in a lab and I get a lot of UTIs

When I felt nausea on this medication, I took a tablespoon of vinegar in a glass of water and the nausea instanly left. When it eventually came back, I repeated the vinegar.

I am dealing with IBS plus UTI all at the same time. I am using macrobid 100 mg 1 pill 2times a day plus bentyl for cramping . i just found out that there are site effects to macrobid like stomach ache and there is site effects to bentyl so i have only been on it less than 2 days does this hurt really bad like shouldn't i see improvement soon on both issues
