Need Help Or Suggestions With Getting My Medications

Updated

Hi everyone i'm new to this site so i'm not sure if i'm posting in the right section or not, but anyways here i go...

My regular Dr. that i see every month for both percocet and xanax has been out of his his office for 3 weeks now. I'm now completely out of medication so i called the covering dr and his staff informed me that he is not writing out any prescriptions for my doctors patients. I have horrible anxiety and panic attacks as well as a bad back and problems with both hips. I'm in so much pain.

My Dr was due to come back on the 1st, then it changed to the 7th, then the 14th, and now as i found out today the 21st. I keep getting told i need to wait for him to come back but that day keeps changing.

I'm so upset, i feel like i've tried everything and there is nothing i can do but the pain i'm in is horrible and my anxiety is through the roof. Does anyone have any suggestions?

To be honest, if it were me, I'd be looking for another doctor, this just doesn't seem right.

However, you would have to make sure that any new doctor gets a full copy of your current medical records, either sent from that office, or by getting a copy yourself and taking them with you.

Have they given you any reason for why the doctor is out of the office and keeps extending it?

This Dr is suppose to be covering your Dr's patients. With the time it seems your Dr has been gone, there seems to be a problem in that office. The patients need a better explanation.

How long have you been on these medications? I can understand this Dr being concerned and cautious if there is not any or much history~that you have not been on them very long or not. The Federal guidelines as well as state ones have gotten really tight and the Dr's can loose their license to practice real easy if they mess up (as well as others involved).

I honestly feel before you do anything else, you need to go get copies of your records. [they will probably charge you for the time and materials used to make them, but you need to go in and tell them you want a full and complete copy of you medical records - left and right, every page and piece of paper, ever note, every test and results, etc. Do not depend that a full copy would make it to the next Dr you go to.I myself would want any copies of xrays, films etc also- they should have no problem putting all that on a disk as it is possible now to do that.]) Do not let them think you are doing anything or leaving them. Just tell them you would like to make a habit of having copies for your own records for your home files.

First (you can google it to verify it) you should not be taken off xanax abrubtly (esp if you have taken for any length of time) ~ you need to be tapered off. That is fact! How long and what amount are you taking? You need to state that you know this to this Dr or their assistant that you know that for a fact and they are responsible for refusing to at least reduce and taper you off the prescription of the xanax as it is to be done properly.(also make sure you let other persons you can trust that can get help if their is some sort of problem. Dr's can be sued.) (I always have copies of research and also incidents of even fatalities be not tapering off properly to hand them, if they act like they do not know what you are talking about)

Get the dr office's fax number and start faxing what you need and email if you can, maybe they will send you an answer on the email and/or fax too so you have written proof both ways esp of their response~if they (explain in writing what your reg refills are and why you are requesting it to be done now. 1st-if it has been one month since the last prescription filled, and you called to get the appt and or prescription with them refusing it, then you need to let them know your history and if they cannot do it, you need to be referred to someone that can. If they refuse [which is often the case] to do anything in writing, then get you a small recorder and start recording conversations also)

Ask them to give you a good date when the Dr will be back and that he is for sure coming back. Document everything - literally keep a journal so you have all you need to use it if it gets nasty.

Again; it has a lot to do often with the new rules ~ how much and how long you have taken it, if it has been each month or sporadic, what your diagnoses is/are (if more than one), etc. in what your physicians in the clinic may or can do (and what one that is covering for your regular one will and can do).

You may want to occasionally come in and see another Dr occasionally if this is a clinic of more than one so they all know you. Is this General Practice or specialized?

This is the other part, you may want to get specialists for your specialized medical needs. (I would recommend)You need a rheumatologist for your back and hip problems. You need a psychiatrist for you anxiety and panic attacks as well as a professional counselor so "you" as a whole is treated so you can have a better life.
I promise it will all be worth it and makes less problems.

Get your records, and find you another Dr/Clinic if this one does not work with you and your Dr. is not going to be back for more than a week more. If you stay and see your regular Dr, you need to express your concerns, the troubles you went through, and how upset and in pain you have been. If this Dr does not seem concerned or has a lot of excuses rather than answers, still may need to think about getting another Clinic.

Your Dr may have had something very bad happen, like a death in the family or even something with himself. The clinic needs to be more professional about it either way.

Ask if there is any other Dr you can see. Talk to the head administrator if the clinic is a partnership. Ask them to please contact your Dr and talk to him about your medications. Get a copy of your prescriptions you have filled and all or the one pharmacy you have filled at so they can see your history.

Prayers lifted up for all.
I have been there and understand.

Note: you can make it 3 more days if your Dr will be back for real on 21st since you have made it this long......keep telling yourself that.

Something I just thought of, you may consider ask for Cymbalta (which I have been told is safer) that a friend that had similar problems you had.
It is prescribed for anxiety, panic attacks, and also pain (as well, it is used for depression too). I know my friend said it worked better than the xanax, percocet and also he was taking a antidepressant.
Safer for your body as a whole compared to you taking more for the same problems.
God Bless

Thanks thats good info I have been on these meds for well over a year. The covering dr refuses to see any of my docs patients or write scripts. I can't get my medical records from my doc because there is no way of getting in touch with him. Only him and his wife work at that office. I called his answering service and they said they had no way of contacting him.

He was supposed to be back the 30th, then the 7th, then the 14th and so far it still says he will be back on the 21st. But if he changes it again or doesn't ever come back i'm gonna be screwed. If his message doesn't change i will be at his office monday morning camped out so i can be the 1st patient.

I still have a bad feeling though and i'll never be able to find one like him again.

Oh and about the cymbalta, i actually have a ton of that left over cause i used to get it prescribed unfortunately anti depressants make me worse and actual turn me suicidal so i have to stay away from them.

I would suggest going to the emergency room where your doctor is on staff and explain the situation and see if they can get you an emergency script till your dr gets back, but also look for another doctor as well... All you can do is try... Going to a hospital that does not know your doctor is on vacation probably won't do any good.

I have the same back issues. Can’t ur pharmacy call for refills? After all someone has to be at your doctors office. As long as you are refilling them on time, they should be able to refill them until your doctor returns. If you are in that much pain, go to your ER. Make sure you bring all your medicine bottles with you to prove what you need. I hope his helps you. Good Luck
