Need Dr Who Prescribes Methadone For Chronic Pain Oklahoma

Updated

I need a Doctor in Oklahoma City that will prescribe Methadone. I've had chronic pain for most of my life. I took lortabs or similar meds for yrs. Got into a bit of trouble so got on Methadone maintenance therapy. This works for me most of the time. I'm just so tired of having to pay $240/mo for it. Plus, all the "hoops" they make u jump thru. I would be willing to drive out of town if not too far. Please help me!

Methadone Maintance is for those addicted to opiates. It will be very difficult for you to find a pain management dr who will treat your pain when you've been in a Methadone Maintance program. Drs want copies of previous drs medical records. There is also the Prescription Monitoring Program that drs check before rxing pain meds. You also have to jump through hoops when you go to pain management. Pain contracts, drug panels, pill counts, etc.

I was on 150 mg of Roxicodone and all the doctors want to give me now are Norcos. They are now telling me one tab per day and took away my Xanax. I have three bulging disc and three degenerative disc. Who do I turn to to get my life back so I can start coaching again?

I would highly suggest that you go on methadone, you will have to find a methadone clinic in your area. You can just google it. Do not tell them you're there because of chronic pain, however tell them you're there because of your addiction to pain medicine. I've been on and off for several years and it really has helped me.

Shawn, go to a pain management Dr.if you're already seeing a pain Dr, get a copy of your medical records and read them. Do you have recent MRI's and other diagnostic test results? Have you asked for early refills or complained because your previous meds weren't working? Have you had any problems with your drug panels or pill counts? How old are you? A lot of drs are taking younger patients off strong pain meds. Has the Dr told you to lose weight?

Methadone is also a prescribed pain medicine. I am on methadone with Dilaudid for break thru pain. Methadone in my state is prescribed for pain because it is a long acting pain medicine. There are methadone clinics but most pain physicians here prescribe it because of its long acting properties. I have been on it for over 15 years although the break thru medicine changed after I lost my lower right leg due to a blood clot. I was in Percoset, and then Morphine. Now Dilaudid. My pain physician is very good and is highly regarded because he does not prescribe to just anyone. You must have proof you need to be on pain management therapy

There should be a way, if two people want to communicate on here to private message each other. Then if people want to after that, they can share email addresses. People on here want and/or need help, that's why some come here. Because some of us have been through the b.s. of it all, it would be nice to share, or help if necessary. It would be helpful to some.. I'm just saying... So whoever is in charge, please add a way to private message each other!!!??

Angelina, if a patient is prescribed Methadone for.pain that is not the same as going to a Methadone Clinic that treats opiate addiction with Methadone. The dosages and how it is taken or prescribed are Not the same. If a patient has been receiving Methadone at a Methadone Clinic the patient is classified as receiving Methadone Maintance Treatment for addiction not pain management. There is a huge difference.

I wasn't speaking of a clinic. I was speaking of pain management.

Angela, what state do u live in? I'm one of those catch-22 situation. I'm an addict with chronic pain. Or because of yrs of chronic pain, I've become addicted. I don't know which. I just know that Methadone controls my pain without mood chgs which doesn't feed into my addiction. I know this because of yrs of trial & error. I've been kicked off Methadone Maintenance Therapy for mentioning my chronic pain & turned away from Pain Mngmt for mentioning methadone. I just don't understand how the Fed's are allowed 2 tell Drs how 2 practice medicine. A pain Dr finally told me that he was leery 2 prescribe methadone 4 pain mngmt because he had pts who expected 2 "feel high" & when they didn't they took too much Methadone & then died of respiratory failure.

Angelia, when a patient has a history of being treated for drug addiction, they are at a greater risk than other patients when it comes to being prescribed opiates and becoming addicted again. Although there is a world of difference between dependency and addiction, once they are treated for addiction they are red flagged. That is why it is so very, very important that chronic pain patients not go to Methadone Clinics just so they can get the Methadone for their chronic pain. You may want to look into seeing a Dr that specializes in Addiction Medicine. Frankly. I don't think you're going to be able to find anyone to treat your pain.

In Oklahoma city, OK. I had been on pain mgt in the past and by my choice I decided to atop. I was worried at my age if i were to stay on my meds and something were to happen i wouldnt be able to get relief. Well I juat had surgery for a torn tendon in rotator cuff. My surgeon put me on low dose meds that wear off every 3 houra leaving me in severe pain. Things doing with the surgery has me feeling scammed. My insurance papers prior to surgery said i was going to have anchors. Prior to going into the or, i asked to speak to my dr but was guven some excuse by the antasceptionoligst. He said he was putting something in my iv to relax me, something i never heard of and didnt do a thing. When i told him it didnt do anything he put more in still nothing. I asked again to see my surgeon and was told id see him in the or. I remember transferring to the surgical table and atill never seen my dr. I was then put out , when i woke up and wanted to see my dr i was then told he had already left. My daughter got a call saying i was in recovery amd all went well. She then asked about the anchors and was told none were used. She cant recall the dr name that called but it wasnt my doctor. I also had been told by my surgeon to pick up a shoulder craddle whixh would would be put on in the or. As i was being ahoved out the door i asked why my arm craddle hadnt been put on and the nuraes said they didnt know i had one. Well since my dr was said to had already left I asked them to put it on for me. Out of all 3 none of them knew how to. I am in very severe pain so now to get pain meds I dont know how since ita not from chronic pain this time. How do i go about getting help for pain ? I want this dr fired and investigated. I dont even know what was done to me. I have filed a complaint againat the sr and surgical hospital but im in pain and dont know what to do next. Please any advice ? Please

First of all u need to address ur current situation. How long ago was ur surgery? Have u called ur surgeon regarding ur pain? Asked to b referred to pain management. If ur not getting anywhere with the surgeon then call the hospital & ask to speak with a patient advocate. Every hospital has a person who addresses patients complaints.l

I didn't say there wasn't a difference. Read posts before jumping to conclusions, please? Don't jump down people's throats because you think they mean something. It sure would be nice to be able to help if necessary by private message. I've been doing this FOR OVER 15 YEARS. I know how it works in this (my) state. Although doctors are monitored by the DEA, finding a pain management clinic here is much easier than it sounds like it is on other states. One thing, I would like to point out is, you cannot walk into ANY pain Doctor and tell them what you want to be prescribed. They usually try certain medications first. In my state, most try one long acting medicine and one for breakthrough pain. BUT generally they will listen to you and ask you what has worked for you in the past..

Trish, you need to go and see your surgeon. Although nothing will come from your complaint the surgeon may not be very willing to help since did file it. If he won't prescribe you any pain meds go to your pcp. Or you can try going to the er.

I didn't say it was the same either. Again, don't jump down people's throats because of what they say or what you think they're saying... What qualifies you as an expert in all 50 states anyway?? I bet you're not.

Re: Shawn (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Get your life back? Don't you mean get your drugs back? I do not understand why you were being prescribed Xanax for pain??? That is a nerve pill for God's sake, it is for treating severe anxiety and is only supposed to be for very short term use unless you have severe social anxiety or something like that that deters one from living a normal life. The mixture of narcotics and benzos is very deadly and every doctor should know this!! Thousands of people have died from combining these two drugs! Anyway, good luck in your pursuit for a doctor but please know that doctors are no longer freely prescribing pain meds to just any one who has normal aches and pains.

Re: Angelina (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

As with all pain doctors they should have patient's proof as to why they need pain management. Sounds like you do have a very good doctor or did have. The problem with all these addicts and the thousands who have died is that most probably didn't even need to be on pain meds. An MRI and or xrays should always be required to prove what is causing your serious pain.
