My Son's Mother Shoots D's! Can I Stop Her?

Updated

My son's mother has been addicted to almost every drug i know at some point. First it was cocaine, then vicadins, then somas and norcals,then she started taking dilaudids, a few days ago i caught her cooking them on a spoon and injecting them. She has fused disk in her spine so the doctor prescribes her 90 somas and 90 norcals per month. These drugs make her very drowsy due to her taking to many. So sells these and buys her dilaudid off the streets. I have tryed everything short of rehab to try and get her to stop using, she says her fused disk is a legitmate reason to take this drug, but she take more then the prescribed amount. I believe she just wants to get high. Now she is shooting the drug like a shot, I feel helpless and do not know what to do. A couple of days ago I did not give her any money to buy dilaudid when she was broke, it was the worst 2 days i ever had with her. She was really torn up. So now I know she needs to take the drug because the withdrawls are horrible. I have told her if she really needs the d's, she should have her doctor prescribe them for her. She says he says, they are to strong. Please help!!?? Any advice would be helpful and highly appreciated. Thank You

It sounds to me like she is looking mainly 4 just that high feeling rather than lowering a pain level. If a person is so drastic they R using needles & shooting up, someone needs to intervene soon! She wants that fast quick high. I not saying she doesn't have true pain problems, but she needs to discuss other options w/ her Dr. She could also go to. Pain mgt. Program that Drs. Can & do refer people In real pain. They can & will try different drugs that could help. I have DDD & have several disc problems along w/ severe scoliosis & in pain everyday. I was stupid & started drinking w/ the pills & ended up in the hospital. If she is also drinking than u & she have to look at this as an addiction. There are rehabs that can help people in pain but how 2 control it & take meds. as intended. I myself attend AA 3xs a week. And take my meds. as directed & work w/ the Dr. I also had 2 come 2 the realization that I will never be at a 0 on the pain scale! I be lucky to mantain a 3 or 4 & learn to live w/ that !!! Alot if people out there know what I am saying. Your sons mother needs help before it gets worse. Don't say almost a rehab she needs an intervention, the road she is going. No one has to deny she is in pain!!! It's just the way she's trying 2 fix it. She'll end up killing herself.

Hello I read what you had wrote and it reminded me of myself. I have pins in my ankles. I was being prescribed a lot of meds. I was on them for two years then my insurance got dropped. I couldn't find new insurance or a doctor I could afford and even if I did they would only start me out on hydro not strong enough and I had been taking 4 Roxy 30's a day for 1 1/2 years. So I started buying them and I couldn't afford to to buy them but I found ways they seemed to not be as strong so I started cooking and running them. I lost my house, my car, all my belongings. Plus I had these ugly track marks. I was talking to my sister one day and she actually made me cry pointing out all my tracks. She called the Methodome Clinic for me and got me on a waiting list. It took me 3 weeks to get in. They started me at 80mg per day and now I am at 120mg per day. The up side to it is It is only $98 a week, you can't run them, It lasts for 24 hours, it helps withdraws about makes them go away all together, It makes your mood swings go away, you get a person to talk to, they give you 90 day to get completely clean. There are still very many GREAT reasons you should check it out. I honestly think it will help your baby momma. I would like you to post some thing else to let me know if you checked it out even if you don't I still want to know how she is doing. Your story just touched my heart because it is me made over. Thanks for your time {edited for privacy}

your mother needs to go speak with your countys behavior specialists, they may be able to help get her on either, suboxone or methadone.

Yes,. there will be no way that you, personally, can stop her. She needs to get help from people who are trained to assist addicts.

I have already written once , but I was wondering how everything is going? Have you checked into the methadone clinic yet? Is she still banging all her meds.? I would really like an update. So please let us know if you have looked into the methadone clinic and if she has gotten any better. I can't seem to stop thinking about her, and where I would be in my life had I not got any help.It truly is a scary thought. Let her know me and my husband are praying for her.

my son's mother, ( ill call her A). Has said she will look into finding a clinic. She has a new hook up for diludid, so she has more then enough to passify her. I have just been trying to support her no matter what. I do not want to continuely nag her, because it never helps. It actually makes the situation worse. I pray she will eventually say,enough is enough. Thank you everyone for the feedback, it has been very helpful. I will keep everyone posted.

Kathy 747, I have to disagree with you. Most drug addicts (opiate addicts) started out being in chronic pain. I know because I am a recovering heroin addict who has been onmethadone for many years. I certainly didn't start out by wanting to stick a needle in my arm, in fact when I was a kid, everytime I got a shot, I would pass out. She is most likey in terrible pain, and the pills aren't cutting it anymore. Once you tap a vein, there is no other way. I agree she needs to go somewhere to treat her addiction and her pain. Most addicts don't think about this., but there is a narcotic painkiller that (A clean addict) can use and not get that high feelinf. It is called Talwin NX. I have never used it, but other addicts have told me it is a great medication for pain, and with the nalreaxone in it she won't get a buzz. Problem is, it sounds like she is in too much pain to do anything other than methadone. Suboxone can work for some addicts, but it is a crappy pain medication..I am not a doctor, but she needs to see a pain specialist ASAP and it would be a good idea if he/she is experienced in. addiction medicine. You are lucky that you are accepted in 12 step programs while taking medication for pain, I was practically told to get out. I was no longer welcome in the meeting, and to tell you the truth it was the best thing that ever happened to me..And I did try, I tried for 12 years, and NA just isn't for me...With the amount of pain this woman has her best bet would to be on methadone, but not a methadone clinic, because methadone clinics don't treat pain,,If they hear the word pain, they will tell you they can't treat you..Good luck, and I hope that you get the help you need because shooting that crap is going to kill you...

I have followed this thread with great interest. I am a recovering addict of 22 years and still have to take dilaudid from time to time for extreme neuropathic pain. However, had I tried to manage the use of pain medication by myself I might be dead. I was put on methadone originally and it almost killed me. I became so addicted and it took others to tell me I was out of control, nodding out, falling and injuring myself and I never thought it was the methadone. I have Lupus, MS, DDD and spinal stenosis. I go to a pain clinic now and I finally was prescribed a pain pump which was surgically implanted in my lower abdomen and there are leads that go directly to my spinal cord. The day after I had ,I woke up and it was the first day in many years that I wasn't in excruciating pain. It was and is amazing. It gave me back my life. And, yes, I consider myself clean, as do my sponsor, friends and family. I have been a member of NA for almost 22 years and I could not have done this without the love and support of others who are also addicts and many who were addicted to opiates and narcotics. I have stayed clean and don't abuse my meds because staying clean is my number one priority. I don't like feeling out of control anymore. PLEASE get her into some kind of safe place to detox and then get her working with a pain clinic if you can. It is up to her, but at least you can plant the seed. Your family is in my prayers.

Hi Sherrie..You are very fortunate that you found a 12 step group that accepts you medication and all. In the City I live in all meetings are the same. You don't take nothing no matter what.I know people in NA who have had surgery with a local and refused pain meds, and almost died from the pain, I find that insane.Anyway I sm glad it works for you. What you said about methadone is why it is so important for this lady to go to a doctor who is experianced in pain management and addiction. We are all different and we can't all tolerate the same opiates. Methadone works for me because it doesn't make me drowsey, but it did the oppisate to you..Tim, your sons mom needs help now. She can get help with hrt addiction as well as pain. Sherry can do it, I have done it, and many b4 us have done it. Please get her help b4 it is too late

talwin??? I used to take that back in the 70s, and it messed me up. NO KIDDING!!!! It was very easy to get back then and too easy to abuse. It has been many years for me I have been clean for 22 years. I dont rember the talwin having the letters NX after it though. Maybe its something new, but Im thinking not. used to be a little burnt orange round pill. I can almost taste it in my mouth just talking about shooting this drug. Weird, thank goodness I dont get this feeling often, must be time to hit a meeting , lol. Everyone talks about how hard it is to come off methadone or suboxone, but the truth is, people couldnt get off the opiates they were addicted to in the first place, beacsue it IS so hard, its going to be difficult no matter what, right? But if one is a doctor shopper, or street addict, at least by going on these medications, you give up THAT part of the addiction. The part where your screwing over your firends, family, lying having to spend what money you do have on doc. appts. because you don't want your insurance to catch on that you ARE doctor shopping. if your a street addict you dont have to worry about getting a bad drug, you can get on with your life!!! So just say yes. And I think the advise to try and stay on a low dose of the sub. is an excellent idea.

There is nothing you can do unfortunately she has TO NOT WANT TO FEEL high!! I have been a heroin and opiate addict for 20 years i even died for 4 minutes each time and guess what i did when i got out of the hospital 6 hours after flatlining for 4 mins I went right back to the dope spot and got a Whole lot of that same heroin that just killed me because it was so good. So you see how crazy addiction is she will most likely end up dead or in Jail i have been both. Just so you know if she were to take buprenorphine AKA suboxone and use it properly she would feel NO WITHDRAWAL symptoms at all it is a miracle drug!! Just DONT continue to take the suboxone after your taper is over as it is very strong. The withdrawal from suboxone is 50 times worse than heroin. Hope i helped

Only thing I can say is she has to stay on the doctor about it. She has to say the med she on now is just not strong enough and a family member told her about the d''s cause there prescribed to them, maybe even go as far as telling the doctor that that family member even let her try one one day cause she was in extreme pain and it helped a lot. They have the 4s and the 8s. So maybe they'll at least start her out with the 4s. She just has to keep complaining about the pain and that her current meds aren't strong enough. Good luck. Lmk how it works out for her. It's a s***ty habit but if your gonna have one might as well be getting the pills prescribed. Cheaper and safer!
