My Prolia Kstory

Updated

Hello,
First I want to say I am 56 and almost never have medicaton problems. I had 4 rounds of chemo in 2010 and am doing great. My oncoligist said it would be benifical for me to have Prolia every 6 months. My T score waas good but he thought it would help me later. I had my first (and only) Prolia injection on 12/01/11. Six days later I was in severe pain and went to see my primary care physician and he sent me streight to the emergancy room.I had upper left abdominal pain and fever. I haven't been to the emergancy room in 25 years. Well I had all the usual tests and they thought it might be diverticulitis. New to me I never had that before. My primary doc and my ortho docs told me he didn't think it was diverticulitis and I should not have Prolia again. I am now having some jaw problems. I did call the FDA and filed paperwork with them stating the side effects that I had.
Ann

Wow, so sorry about what you experienced.

This does seem to be a kind of iffy medication, as we've had posts about it from both side of the spectrum. There are some people that it worked great for and some that had bad experiences, similar to yours.

Are you feeling any better, yet?

I bet you got the same letter I did. I could hear boohoo all the way from DC. They said if they get more, they will up the packing info for the MDs. Wonder if they even read it or just believe what a salesperson tells them.

My mother (84 yrs) was persuaded to have a Prolia injection despite having a previous diagnosis of diverticulitis.
After a few days she began to suffer severe bowel pain and diahorea, and over a month on she is struggling to eat properly and is finding it difficult to leave the house.
Given that diverticulitis is a known side effect and that my mother questioned the need for the injection (despite falling and fracturing her pelvis there is no know issue of her having osteoperosis) her GP was insistent on the injection being administered.
