my doctor prescribed metformin 500 mg to take 2 tablets twice a day isnt that a bit much? also i am supposed to take a shot of lantus solostar no. 6 at bedtime both are supposed to be for my diabetes isnt this abit much/

No, there are people who are prescribed much higher doses, it really depends on how severely your blood sugar levels are out of control.

If, at a later time, your blood sugar level has come down and is doing better, your dosage can be lowered, or if this dosage doesn't work, it can be raised even higher or other medications added.

Usually, someone is prescribed a higher dosage, at first, to bring their blood sugar down safely, but as fast as possible, because the longer it's elevated, the higher the risk of organ damage, nerve damage and etc.
