My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 30)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

FYI Dilantin is an anti seizure medication. Evidently given to decrease chances of having another seizure.

I too have been forced to quit my Xanax ER cold turkey. I haven’t had any in a week. So I am feeling with drawl symptoms and anxiety/panic symptoms.

My heart goes out to you. I was prescribed Xanax at age 17. I have severe anxiety disorder. (GAD) I AM 54 and need this medication just to function. My Drs through the years cut me off and Benzo withdrawal can kill you. My best friend was 66 and died because she got cut off. She had panic attacks anxiety disorder and had agoraphobia. I am in the same position now and need this medication. I lost my husband and mother 3 weeks apart. I found a new Dr but now he is going to take me off it. I am scared too. I need this like a diabetic needs insulin. The Drs just go by what they read instead of the patient. Sad but very true. I am also needing advise. I have been through Benzo withdrawal and it's awful. Hard on the heart, shaking, lack of appetite, everything in the brain is impacted.

I had to come off Xanax last April. You can't do it . I have been on them all my life. You can't eat, sleep. Then you are in hell I really mean that you see things that aren't there you hear music . You see things burning if I have to die I will never go through that again.

Yes, I understand the withdrawal from Zanax. I have been on it since 05 due to up other illness. Last week I ran out and had 4 days until my next refill. I knew I wasn't gonna make it. I threw up 2/12 days and then my brother came to see about me. The last thing I knew was a paramedic hollering at me and pulling me off the floor. I had a siezures , which I don't remember. All this drama over a 1.98 prescription, I had to sit in Er for I Er 6hrs, after all the scans they said I was fine I'm almost out again. This drug has taken over my life, the joy of life and pushed all my fiends away. It really got bad when My schnauzers passed, the mynBest Friend along with findin a way to bury him, do I want off yes, but can ai , I'm afraid Zillow have another siezure and die from aspirating in my longs from the vomit.

I too had a Sigurd. I practically begged everyone I know that takes zanax to let me have two u Gil my next shipment, they refused. My shipment came on thev20th at 11am, my Ambulane came on the 19th at 1pm. Am I mad at friends didn't help me yes, I would find another doctor, it sounds like they don't want to deal with you. The bad thing about Xanax is even taking it as prescribed you can start having withdrawal symptoms before the next dose is due. This can start as early as one week after starting Xanax. This medication has its uses for sure but for long time usage it can be a nightmare. Maybe talking to your doctor about a longer acting benzodiazapene might be worth a try. I know there are a lot of people that use it long term but the problem lies in running out too soon and dealing with the dangerous withdrawal effects. Stopping Xanax has to be a gradual and monitored procedure. I wish you the best in your journey. Be safe and God bless.

Xanax should be off the market! Too many people think it’s the best remedy to feel better. Keep thinking that & U will become dependent on them & then all the sudden U will be addicted.

Hello, I agree with you big time. Xanax should have been taken off the market years and years ago. I take klonopin and it is way safer than Xanax. Ativan is okay to take. Valium if you're careful is way better than Xanax. Xanax is a deadly drug. Have a great day.

I don't take Xanax. I was just stating some facts. The medication has got uses. One they give it to patients that are going into surgery to relax them. It doesn't last as long as Valium so for this purpose it's very useful. It's also used in patients that have been through a serious trauma, whether psychological, physical or both. As I said it shouldn't be used for long term therapy.

Even if you take the exact same medication no one should share medications. It's against the law for one. They did the right thing whether you think so or not. I'm sorry that happened to you. If you get your medicine by mail maybe you should make allowances in case it's late getting to you for whatever reason.

They NEVER give patients alprazolam pre-op. They most commonly use midazolam (Versed) because it has an extremely short half life.

I take it your not a doctor. The advice you gave to the OP is irresponsible and extremely dangerous. She can have life threatening seizures. I ran out of my xanax for a few days. On the 4th day I woke up on the floor. I had a seizure. When I went to my doctor the following day, I told him what happened and I decided I wanted off the xanax and we decided to put me in klonopin. That was in Oct and I dont feel any difference, im glad I changed medications and I dont want to take Xanax again. Please dont give advice unless you're a doctor. I'm sure your intentions are good, but they aren't right. People going through benzo WD's can and have died.
