Multaq Withou Coumadin?

Updated

I was diagnozed in Feb with a-fib. Started taking Multaq at that time. So far I have refused Coumadin.
Have had some minor episodes lasting about 1/2 hour with rates @ 100-150 and increased BP. Will meet with my Cardio Doctor tomorrrow.
Is there anybody out there who cna tell me how they aredoing with Multaq and NO coumadin>

About four months ago I went into total heart block and they implanted a pacemaker. I continued to have severe A-Fib and Atrial flutter. I told my cardiologist that I could not live with the A-Fib and he started me on Multaq, BID. From the get go I couldn't believe how well it worked. Of course, if I didn't have a pacemaker this particular drug probably would not have been prescribed. When I asked about Warfarin, my dr. told me it wasn't necessary being that I was free of dysrrythmias. They read my pacemaker strip and sure enough, no A-Fib or Atrial flutter. This drug saved my life. I have researched the drug to the ends of the earth and there is nothing else that works so well. Believe me, I've been on every beta blocker, calcium channel blocker, ad infinitem, ad nauseum...I feel strongly about Multaq's efficacy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to work.

Thank you so much for your reply. Have been on Multaq sosr 6 months so far and my Cardio is happy wisth the results. We have chosen Plavex and aspirin over Coumidan to help control the risk of stroke.
Glad things are working out for you.

I have been on coumidin since October of 2008 due to being out of rythem. They put me on multaq in October of 2010, but it did not put me in rythem. However, in April they did a cardioversion and I went back in. So far the multaq has keep me in rythum and I can do anything I want. The multaq made me tired for awhile, but I gradually got over it. Hope it does the same for you. The coumidin is a bit of a hassle due to the monthly blood test and I do bleed more than usual if I get cut.

Yes, sometimes using them both is advised, sometimes it is not necessary.

As can be seen from the other posters on here, some do well with one or the other and some require both.

Have you spoken to your doctor about your concerns over using it?
