I have been having fluid in my ears since May and have take three bottles of nasial spray 2 different antibodics and 2 boxes of mucinex d and my dr order ct scan. The results says i have a thickening of the mastoid bone. What is the treatment for this and will my ears ever clear up? ## Hello, Mert! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you'r having. Such thickening is common, when someone experiences a problem that becomes chronic, like yours has. It means it has become inflamed and you may need to have a tube inserted in your ear to allow the fluid to drain. Letting it remain untreated can create the risk of nerve damage that could cause facial paralysis, meningitis and other serious health complications. Have you consulted an ENT, yet? With proper treatment, your ears ...

Is there a harmful interaction between Mucinex D (Guaifenesin/Pseudoephedrine HCI) and HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide). I take HCTZ for high blood pressure, but would like to take Mucinex D for nasal/sinus congestion. ## Hello, Art! How are you? What is your normal blood pressure level? The Pseudoephedrine can cause elevated heart rate and blood pressure, so it may not be safe for you to take it. Have you checked with your doctor to see what's safe for you? Are on any other medications?

Long orange pill, has SP on one side, and <<< on the other side. What is this I found? Please help. ## Hello, Tjhalls! How are you? I'm sorry, but so far, I've been unable to find anything that matches this description. However, I'll keep looking and post back, when I have information for you. This is continuing for the past 15 days. I used "MUCINEX-D" FOR THREE DAYS (TAKEN ONLY 5 TABLETS IN THESE 3 DAYS.) I think it is a generic form of Mucinex DM... i.e. guaifinesin and a cough suppressant. ## Hi Lisa, Just to let you know, the white pill you're describing marked AZ 345 is in fact identified as a Mucus Relief DM tablet, containing Dextromethorphan HBr (20 mg) + Guaifenesin (400 mg). This medicine is widely used as an expectorant and cough suppressant. Apparently it works in several ways, by thinning the viscosity of mucus, stimulating the flow of respiratory tract secretions, and also by decreasing activity in a part of the brain that causes coughing. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Mucus Relief DM Details I hope this helps!

This pill is white and long it has a PH on one half of the pill and 043 on the other. There is no V on the other side of the pill someone gave it to me saying it was for getting rid of mucus because the weather has been so crazy. I have not taken it yet for the fear of not trusting them haha. So, I came on here to find out what it is. Can someone please tell me? That will be well appreciated. Thank You. ## I haven't been able to find a definitive identification for this, we've had several people ask about it. However, one of our forum posts said that they had purchased it as a generic for Mucinex, which contains the active ingredient Guaifenesin and is a decongestant. What we do know, however, is that the pills with the PH marking are over the counter products. Is anyone else fa...

May I take mucinex while I am currently taking lisinopril, hctz, metformin, and zocor? ## Hi Beth, From what I could gather, Mucinex does not have interactions with any of those medications. Oddly enough though, my findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between Hydrochlorothiazide/Lisinopril and Metformin. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Before taking hydrochlorothiazide, tell your doctor if you also use Metformin. Hydrochlorothiazide can cause high blood sugar and interfere with glucose control. You may need a dose adjustment and you may need to check your blood sugar more often if you take both medications. Hydrochlorothiazide can also cause lactic acidosis while you are using Metformin. Symptoms of lactic acidosis include unusual m...

Mucinex is not the same as Humibid, different fillers, doesn't work as well, fillers give me palpitations, etc... Why do they always take something off the market in the USA when it is superior to the other product? Anyone know where to buy the real deal Humibid? ## The active ingredient is the same, Guaifenesin, but yes, the fillers can be different. It may simply be a matter of trial and error to find a medication containing it that works for you. Have you tried asking your pharmacist to help you find one? ## No, our pharmacists are not very people friendly here in Ct. I am very sensitive to medications OTC or prescribed. I wish I could find the same formulation.
