Morphine And Gabapentin

Will taking gabapentin stop the effects of morphine, and how long does it take for the gabapentin to be metabolized?

Gabapentin is actually an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders, so no, it will not block the effects of Morphine.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes.

When you say metabolized, are you asking about when side effects stop, when it's no longer detectable, or something else? Can you please be more specific?

I was on morphine for pain caused by a bulged disc in spine causing nerve compression it helped but 3 years later I was taking up to 150 mg a day and a scare promoted me to get off the morphine and against doctors orders I came off cold turkey, the worst month of my life and for me I was given gabapentin and it helped a little and now it's all I take, the withdrawal from morphine can last for months depending on how much you were taking, but believe me once your over the worst and first few weeks you will never want to take morphine again, I was told the more dependent you are on it eventually you will require so much that it has the opposite effect causing you to feel more pain, I was told I was lucky to be alive still hence my reason for going cold turkey, so if you can cope with 3 weeks of feeling horrendous it will be worth it, take the gabapentin and if things get really bad during the withdrawal ask for some diazepam to help with the anxiety.
