I was recently prescribed Minocycline for some cystic acne, I ended up in the ER with a severe allergic reaction that required more than 1 injection of epinephrine. I'm aware that I have a sulfa allergy but has anyone ever heard of Minocycline causing an allergic reaction for those who have sulfa allergies? Is Minocycline safe to take if you have a sulfa allergy? I need serious responses only please! ## These allergies may not necessarily be related, according to NIH reports, those who are allergic to one medication, or substance, often find others that they are also allergic to, and must avoid in the future. What type of allergic symptoms did you experience? I am assuming they must have been severe, if they resorted to epinephrine, instead of just Benadryl/Diphenhydramine. We were ...

I'm having to switch from minocycline to amox/clav for a skin infection. I've heard that minocycline can reduce the effectiveness of amox/clav. How long do you have to wait after taking minocycline to start amox/clav? ## That interaction is a risk when they are taken together, according to NIH reports. Thus, just switching out from one to the other, at the next dosing time, should be fine, unless your pharmacist instructs otherwise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of most antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm suppose to take 100mg twice a day but after the first day it made me super dizzy and throw up. So I decided to only take 100mg once a day. Does anyone think that is strong enough to get rid of the rash?

What effect does minocycline have psychologically? I heard of kids abusing it before at our local school? ## Hello, Aman! How are you? The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic, so it really has no psychological effects. I would suspect that they are just abusing it, because they 'think' it's doing something. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My daughter tested positive on a drug test for marijuana after taking minocycline for her skin condition. Can this antibiotic cause a false positive for marijuana? ## Minocycline is used to treat acne. There is nothing in it that would cause you fail for THC. You're daughter quite simply had some marijuana. It is said that marijuana and monocycline combined can cause a sort of depersonalization effect, dizziness, and even on rare occasions, hallucinations.

Can't identify small, tiny round white pill scored one side, blank flip side scoring is L 72. What else an I tell you. That's all I know. If I knew more, wouldn't need to ask you. ## Hi Elizabeth, Is there any chance that your pill imprint might say "I 72" as opposed to "L 72"? I actually came across a description of a round gray pill (approx. 8mm in size), with an upper case "I" next to "72" on one side and blank on the other. Unfortunately I'm not sure it has a score line… however, the pill is said to be identified as a 75mg Minocycline HCL tablet; which is used to treat various types of bacterial infections (including some skin conditions). If you want to look up any of those details for verification, the manufacturer is Dr. Reddy...

I picked up a prescription from CVS took the blue and white capsules for a month. When I got the refill, the capsules were grey and white. I looked up the number and found that those were the minocycline 100 mg that was prescribed. I called CVS to find out why the first ones were blue and white--whether they changed brands, or whether I might have been given a different dosage that was blue and white or a different medication, maybe one with a similar number or in a bin adjacent to the minocycline. They said without the number on the capsules (all gone), there was nothing they could do. Would someone familiar with CVS know how this could happen and what it's likely to have been that I took for a month? ## Minocycline is a generic medication, so it is manufactured by several differen...

Can Minocycline give a false positive for Methadone (EDDT) metabolites? I do not take any medications that I am not suppose to especially Methadone. My career is now on the line. ## Hi Jessie, Although I haven't located any details confirming the possibility of a false positive for Methadone from Minocycline, I do believe that it's still a strong possibility due to the faulty standard drug tests they use today. A lot of these standardized drug tests have a fairly high false-positive response, where it seems as though anything is likely to show up. To my knowledge, false positives are known to occur on them anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time. If your career is on the line, the best advice I can offer is that you try to dispute your case by getting re-tested with a gas chromatogra...
