I am taking care of my sister and she is 83 she is so hard to wake up At times and I sometimes have to raise my voice to get her awake. I have been out of nursing since 88. And have not been familiar with the newer drugs. ## Metoprolol is a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac conditions. It can cause drowsiness, as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination, but it doesn't usually cause a deep sleep like that. What other medications is she on? My generic toprol xl just changed to this and I want info on this manufacturer to see if there are any problems with it. ## I was also changed to the Actavis Metoprolol success er 25 MG due to lack of availability or discontinuation of Mylan's generic version. I find the Avtavis version not nearly as effective as Mylan and am trying to learn the status of the Mylan MT1 version, or the effectiveness of other generics for this drug. ## Although some manufacturers have a reputation for more or less effective meds, I find that everyone's response/reaction is also going to vary based on several factors; including but not limited to one's unique body chemistry, metabolism, sensitivities to inert ingredients, etc. That said, trial and error may be the only way to determine what wor...

I switched pharmacies and the pills look different - it didn't concern me, and research says they are the same thing. However, I FEEL different. My heart starts racing, then returns to normal, and I have tremendous pressure in my head. Pharmacy A uses round white pill w/ M 100 on one side, scored on othe. Pharmacy B is round white with M 3 on it, and a score between the characters, blank on other side. B is the one I am struggling with. Would there be a difference in how I feel? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Yes, they are both 100mg Metoprolol tables, they're just manufactured by different companies. However, under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, there can be slight differences in the amount of the active ingredient in generics, so this new one may be a little stronger than the on...

I was on Atenolol from 2002 to 2017. Then there was a "shortage". The new Atenolol is absolutely NOT the same. If it was, I wouldn't have to take 9, that's right 9 50mg tablets of metoprolols with the Atenolol. I've told my Doctor. He either doesn't believe me, or doesn't care. With my hand on a Bible.... Atenolol has changed. ## I am very sorry about the problem that you're having, that is a lot of medication to take regularly. However, I would like to ask a few questions to gain a better understanding of what is going on. What condition are you taking these medications to treat, hypertension, a cardiac condition, or something else? What is happening that causes you to feel you need to take so much of the Metoprolol, with your Atenolol? These medications...

Thank you. ## The Myl and Car are just different manufactures, since this is a generic medication. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. After all, the heart is a muscle, so if it works more/h...

I have tachycardia, that normally is only a problem if I get o er a certain weight, but last June I was electrocuted by my range hood and my weight is no longer an issue with the tachycardia, in fact now I also have issues with low heart rate... I only take half of a 25 mg Metropolol up to twice a day, because I also have low blood pressure to begin with. But even taking the half a metropolol right now is not helping me much. My heart rate is almost on a cycle of constant fluctuation. When using a monitor I can see the pulse rate and sinus rythym and at times it completely stops then jump starts again... Took 25mg for 5-6 years and upped by Dr. to 50mg a few years ago due to supposed HBP. Started losing my hair all within one month on crown after being on Metoprolol for a couple of years. Thought it was due to menopause. Was put on med due to PVC's (early heart beats). Turned out several years after going on this med found out that PVC's were due to lack of Vitamin D. Dr. told me to continue meds to lower my BP. Recently ran out of meds and while waiting for refill, took BP several times a day. Found out my BP was better without the Metoprolol. Been off of it cold turkey for a month. Unless my BP goes up, I will NEVER go back on this again. ## Hello, Nix! How are you? I'm glad you're doing so well without it, but please continue to keep an eye on your blood pressure, to ...

I am on 25 mg of Metoprolol divided in half morning and evening. I don't have high blood pressure, yet I'm always very short of breath. I don't want to take them anymore. ## This is a blood pressure medication. Why are you taking it? ## It is a very small dose if I understand what you are saying. You take 25mg in total per day, divided into 12.5mg in the morning and night? It is unclear as to the reason you are taking them for as you have not provided enough detail as to your condition. They may be to control high blood pressure, angina, abnormal heart rhythms, palpitations..quite a large list. If you do not want to continue taking them, discuss this with your doctor. Don't just stop taking medicine, ask him to explain why you are being prescribed them. ## i had heart st...

Been having an itching scalp and skin at night when going to bed and it keeps me awake. Changed shampoos several times thinking that was my problem. Then I saw the list of side effects and it could be this medicine. Feels like ants crawling on my skin during the day and at night. Been taking this since my open heart surgery in Jan 2015. Seems to be getting worse. Anyone have these side effects? ## Hello, Jules! How are you? This class of medications can cause those types of issues, due to the way they work on your circulation to lower blood pressure and improve heart function, as reported by the FDA. I used to experience it myself, when I was taking Candesartan. However, since you have had open heart surgery, there could be something else going on with your circulation that isn't re...

Is the best time to take this medicine in the morning or night? ## Has your doctor made any specific recommendation? Metoprolol is a beta blocker, used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions and, in most cases, this type of medication is taken in the morning, because most people are far more active during the day, so that is the time their blood pressure can be elevated. However, it can cause some drowsiness and dizziness, in some people, as a side effect, and in those instances, it may be necessary for someone to take it at night. ## I am taking Lisinopril @20mg and also i am taking Metoprolol tart 25mg tab myl, my question is why do i take two High bloodpressure pills? My pharmacy refilled my Teva Metoprolol Tartrate 50 mg with Metoprolol manufactured by Aurobindo. I've taken Teva Met Tart for 4 years with great results and no side effects. After taking 50mg Aurobindo Metoprolol Tart, the side effects were immediate. The Aurobindo Metoprolol 50 mg tab did not bring down my BP and it kept climbing. In the meantime my lips and upper face went numb, heart beat felt erratic, cold, shortness of breath, burning sternum, shakiness, nausea and headache. . . etc. No, this wasn't a heart attack. I'm looking for a replacement for the Teva as I understand they merged with Watson. Does anyone have any information on if Teva/Watson is producing Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg tablets under another Mfg. name. ## Just looked this up. I've been having issues ...
