I have a recent prescription for metoprolol. To get me started, the nurse gave me some she had in stock that had M 18 on it. The prescription I received in the mail has C 73 on it. I've seen descriptions for each which seem different to me but both are described as metoprolol. Are these really the same prescription drugs with the same active chemical analysis? ## Hi, Lee! Yes, they certainly are the same medication. Metoprolol is actually a generic, so it's manufactured by several different companies and they all have to use different markings on their tablets to enable them to be identified and traced back to them, in case of an emergency. The way they look is entirely up to their whit and whim, there are no constraints on that, as long as they used the inactive ingredients tha...

Had been taking metoprolol xl 25 mg once daily for irregular heart beat for years without issue. Due to recent heart palpitations my dr prescribed metoprolol tartrate 50 mg twice daily. Due to a gluten sensitivity I have had several adverse stomach pains nausea etc from several pharmaceutical companies and am reluctant to keep trying different pharmaceutical companies. Have asked my dr to place me back on my metoprolol and he agreed and prescribed xl 25mg twice daily. What concerns me are the two metoprolol 25mg xl that I am now taking equivalent to the two metoprolol 50 mg twice daily. I have only been on the metoprolol xl 25 mg for a few days but I have experienced a few along with a feeling in my stomach that i am hungry. My pharmacist did infirm me that she actually spoke to my card...

Taking Prolomet AM 50 -1 bd for the past 6 months. Upper portion of the toes of both legs getting swollen for the past one week ## Have you contacted your doctor? How have your blood pressure readings been? Prolomet-AM contains the active ingredients Metoprolol and Amlodipine and, if you are experiencing such swelling, then you need to contact your doctor immediately. Such fluid retention could be the sign of a serious health condition starting, such as congestive heart failure. ## Doctor was consulted & she prescribed Prolomet XL 50 instead of Prolomet AM 50. BP was 120/80. After changing the medicine, the swelling started reducing a little but not stopped. I stopped Prolomet XL 50 for a week. Swelling disappeared gradually & again I started taking Prolomet XL 50. There is no s...

I would like to know why I have this drug metoprolol succinate ER 25 if it was recalled. Is it now considerred safe? Has the lawsuit been heard yet? I want off of this stuff and am so ticked that my doctor not only put me on it but never explained any symtoms, or how it should be taken. Where does responsibility begin with a Doctor today? ## A doctor is not a pharmacist and does not have the same schooling. Most doctors prescribe medications according to safety and efficacy, they usually know very little about the side effects or any other information on it. That said, the recall ONLY affected tablets manufactured by one company, not ALL! Since it is a generic medication, it is made by several different companies. As to how to take it, you should follow the instructions provided by your...

Why do doctors online and offline pretend that Metropolol does NOT cause hair loss, when there are patients online and right in front of offline doctors complaining that this beta blocker is making them lose their hair!? Instead of being honest, they blame the patient's genetics or make out like it's some other cause--stress, maybe, or diet, blah-blah. Metoprolol causes the hair to fall out and it doesn't take a long time on that drug, either. Just a couple months, and some of us are near bald. Time for honesty about this, and also WHY AREN'T THEY DEVELOPING A HEART MED THAT DOES NOT CAUSE HAIR LOSS???? ## How long does it take for the Metoprolol to leave the body after you stop taking it? and how long does it take to get your hair back? ## Well that sucks. I have been o...

My mom passed away and I'm trying to figure out what her medication is. It's a small white pill, blank on one side with what looks like a minus (-) sign on the other. Does anyone know what it is and what it's for? ## Small white pill with a minus sign on one side and blank on the other side ## Hello Neen, I know this may sound silly but how large is the line on the back of the pill? Does it go across the entire pill or just a very small portion of the pill? The reason I ask is it sounds to me like the pill is scored and the line is there with the intention of the pill to be broken in half. If that's the case then the pill is not a prescription medication and is likely some sort of over the counter drug/vitamin/supplement or dietary pill. If it comes to that then there re...

White oval pill with E and then 281, it's supposed to be Metoprolol but they are smaller than the other ones I had before. ## The size of a tablet is only dependent on what filler/inactive ingredients the manufacturer has decided to us in the production formula, and the medication dosage, so pill sizes can differ from one manufacturer to another. The tablet with the E 281 marking was manufactured by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, and they listed it as containing 25mgs of Metoprolol, which is commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac conditions. NDC: 00185-0281 This tablet has been discontinued. Ref: Medline Plus Metoprolol The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, and increased urination.

This is a white large oval tablet with a slpit on one side down the middle and 369 on the other side. The Mfr. is ETHEX CORP. I'm taking Toprol XL 50 mgs. for my heart. I have Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease and arrythmias. I got my prescription filled today. I have never been given this type of tablet before and I'm afraid to take it. My pharmacist is closed now and I take this medicine every night. Please tell me what you may think that it is. Do you think that it's a generic for Toprol? I think that once I got a generic for it and it didn't look like this. Please email me back and let me know. Thank You so much. ## What is the exact, complete imprint? ## I too have been prescribed this same pill in place of Toprol XL 50mg. This is a 'horse pill' by comparison be...

I was having heart palpitations and the dr suggested I see a cardiologist for them. 4 days before I saw her I was having episodes of them along with some chest pain and at one time blue nails. It all subsided now. My pulse rate and BP were good but because heart disease runs in the family she put me on metoprolol 25 mg split in 2 doses and told me to go to the hospital if my pulse went down to 60. It did, so I went to the hospital, had all tests done and everything was normal. They even gave me an angiogram with no problem there, but my pulse continued to fluctuate between the low 40s to 50s. My primary stated she gave you this for heart palpitations and to get off of it now. She did something wrong and she never told me why I needed to go to the hospital if my pulse went down to 60. What is a white tablet marked on 1 side and nothing on the other side? ## Hello, Ronald! How are you? What is the marking on it? I can't find a listing for anything with just these numbers on it. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! ## Metoprolol 200 mg for blood pressure ## I agree that it is possibly Metoprolol. However, the official marking contains a logo with a score line and then the number 833 instead of 8333 as far as I can see. (NDC 62037-833) Ref: DailyMed Another possibility is a white tablet with the marking A333 (where the letter A could be misconstrued as the number 8). This tablet does not have a score line on it, and contains Oxycodone and Acetaminophen 10/325. (NDC 0228-2983, now discontinued). Which tablet do you have? Does it have a score line?

My husband takes metoprolo 50mg the pill my mail order has always sent was an oval white pill, this time they sent a small round white pill, scored on one side and 50 m on the other side. NDC: 00186-7301 The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, increased urination, and hypotension. At about the time I was diagnosed with borderline blood pressure and put on metoprol Tar, I noticed discoloring on one, then two shoulders -- a rash -- where the skin became harder and bumpy/scaley. At the same time I developed a rash under my right breast that hasn't gone away. It's four years now and my blood pressure has risen and the rash spreading throughout my back, into my arms, and recently into the buttocks and legs. I've also been extremely stressed for the past 12 years and more so since I lost my job last year. Is this a reaction to Metoprol or my high blood pressure, or is it something related. I also have edema in both lower legs and have been on hydrochlorothiazine for two years. Thank you. ## It has been known to aggravate psoriasis, so the rash and other ski...

Best medicine for degenerative arthritis ## For the past 3wks my ankles & feet has been swollen. They'll go down for a day or so but will swell back up. They wasn't sore at first but they are starting to get tender around my ankles & the top of my feet. I wanted to know what's causing it & is there anything that will prevent it from happening ## I can explain all of the swelling in my calves, ankles and toes to RA, and medications but the top of my food is a mound and hurt so BAD even to the touch. I just keep saying it must be RA because we have so many bones and joints in our feet, and now it kills to walk on the bottom of my feet and I should wear shoes but it hurts to wear them. Its like every bone in my feet are breaking which could be as osteoporosis has go...

Looking to find out the best medicine to treat schizophrenia. ## Hello, Valerie! How are you? There is really no 'best medicine' so to speak. It depends on the person and what works for them. Not all medications work for everyone that tries them, which is why they are usually several options to try in any given treatment category. For example, I have high blood pressure and while the 'best' medication for many people is Metoprolol, it made me very sick and I had to stop taking it. It also didn't significantly lower my blood pressure. That said, what medications have you tried? Some people do better with an older medication, such as Risperdal, though as reported by the FDA, it can cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, somnolence and weight gain. But others ha...
