My pharmacy recently switched brands for my Methylphenidate 10mg and I swear I could be swallowing placebo. This medication does not work. I’m looking to see if anyone else has had this problem? ## Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, generics are allowed to differ from the name brand by as much as plus, or minus 20% of the active ingredient, the FDA considers that to be an acceptable therapeutic window. In most cases, the difference are minuscule and no one notices, but some people are sensitive to medications and can run into other problems. Another reason for a problem could be too broad of a difference, since in reality that is a 40% window for difference. For example, the one you were taking previous might have been high in the amount of the active ingredient, say it was actua...

Can anyone tell me if they have completely stopped making Methylphenidate 20 mg? Just the regular tablet. Not the extended release / yellow round tablet with sz imprinted on them manufactured by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals... ## I was panicked to think that might be the case, but I just found it at a CVS (in Tucson). From my efforts to find it, this is what I have learned… each CVS may give you a different answer, from "we have no control, we only receive what is sent to us" & "I have no way of finding out anything for you"... to "sure, I can order that for you". Bottom line, to find Sandoz methylphenidate don't give up after calling one or two CVSs! ## Hello Just curious, According to the FDA there is no stoppage or shortage of these pills only the exte...

I am in college and I have ADD. At the start of the spring semester my Dr. prescribed me the generic form of Ritalin "methylphenid." When I went to go get my last prescription filled they gave me "methylphenidate." Are there any difference between the 2? If so what? ## They are the same, both generic for Ritalin. The pharmacy just left off the last 3 letters of the name. ## Hello Bobjotoby, How odd, I don't think I have ever seen a pharmacy cut off just the last 3 letters of a drug but I was unable to find anything on a drug named methylphenid so I would assume that BL is correct in saying that is likely what has happened. For peace of mind you always have the option to call the pharmacy and confirm if this is the case. Let us know what you find.

I was wondering what kind of pill is round and white that has GG 780 printed on one side. ## This is an old tablet that contained 20mgs of Methylphenidate in a time released formulation, it is a generic for Ritalin SR. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, anorexia, and insomnia. While this tablet is not longer listed as being available, (caveat that may change, again, at any time), there are many other generics available. Is there anything I can help with?

I have been taking Methylphenidate mps 20mg for the past few years and doing great. A couple of weeks ago I went up to get my refill but it wasn't the brand I was on. They told me at the pharmacy that it's the same thing. I was taking them but I am feeling weird along with an upset stomach. Headache. They gave me apo brand. I am wondering if it's just me or are they somewhat different? I would call my Dr. but he is out of town. Thanking-you in advance. ## Decreased appetite, dry mouth, and nausea are all very common adverse effects of Concerta. The best way to counteract the gastrointestinal discomfort is by timing your medication appropriately with meals. Concerta should generally be taken about 30-45 minutes prior to a meal. Go ahead and try that for a couple of days and s...

My daughter is taking 20 mg er methylphenidate qd. She is not testing positive as she should. This is the second test that has not tested positive. My doctor wants me to take Methylphenidate and only wants me to take brand name Ritalin. Will the pharmacy fill the prescription early due to the change of going from generic to brand? ## In most cases they will not, if there has not also been a dosage change. Why does your doctor want you to only take the name brand?
