Methylfolate

I take deplin 7.5 once a day with lexapro 10mg, for depression. These meds were prescribed by my psychiatrist. I also take a metnax tablets twice a day for non diabetic foot and hand neuropathy. This med was prescribed by my foot doctor. I have biopsy proven sarcoidosis of the lungs, joints, kidneys and eyes. Is it okay to take deplin and metnax together? Are these the same drug and can I overdose taking them together?

Hi, I work with Deplin. I think I just answered you on another thread, but just to provide information to other readers, here it is again. L-methylfolate is an active ingredient in several medical foods manufactured by Pamlab LLC. We recognize that patients may have multiple diagnoses that may warrant prescribing more than one of our medical foods. Although each medical food has ingredients that are designated as GRAS (generally regarded as safe), there have not been any well-controlled studies demonstrating the efficacy or safety beyond 17mg/day. The use of two or more medical foods that result in a total intake of more than 17 mg/day is not supported by the literature and is up to the discretion of your doctor. In this case, can support the taking of Deplin 7.5 with Metanx. We recommend that you take one product in the AM and one product in the PM (it does not matter which).

We have had some people who are experiencing more side effects, because of the action that the Deplin has on their antidepressant.
