Just wanted to let you know that the methscopolamine brom (not nitrate - but my doctor advises that is just an ingredient to make the drug soluable) is available by itself in 2.5 and 5 mg doses. I suffer year round with runny nose and eyes. Since they pulled my AlleRx I was miserable and furious!!! I have worked with two doctors on this and we found the methscopolamine brom prescribed alone works just as well as the other drugs containing the ingredient. This is the extreme drying agent that works GREAT on runny nose and eyes. Doctors can find it under the "GI Tract" portion of their "drug lists". My alergist called today and has found another drug available that works too. I am going to get it tomorrow - even though I don't need it - just to have it on hand in case they discontinue the other for some reason. A pharmacist told me they only discontinued the "combo" drugs so HOPEFULLY the methscopolamine brom will not be pulled!! It works great for me and I hope it does for you and everyone else out there that has this HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING, trouble. Good luck!!!

Agreed calling allergy Dr or even GP is worthless they in general don't care just want you to come in to get money just to tell you to try over the counter. AS IF that is going to work NOT. As a drug rep with drainage (PND) 365 DAYS A YEAR, when I discovered AlleRx, Stahist, Dallergy, etc. (all allergy meds containing METHSCOPOLAMINE) my prayers were answered! It changed my life, and gave me drainage relief for the first time ever. I worked for Cornerstone, which is how I was introduced to AlleRx products. I have become the queen at controlling my allergies/drainage for the past few years, thanks to METHSCOPOLAMINE. I used to make my own "cocktail" with AlleRx-D and loratadine (gen. claritin)...and then for the last year have been taking STAHIST. The key was the combo of antihistamine, decongestant + anticholingeric. For the first time EVER, I can't get Stahist or any of its equivalent! AND I AM MISERABLE!!! My drainage is so bad, I can't even sleep. I've talked to several pharmacists in the past 48 hours. There's no way the NEW formulary of Stahist AD or DALLERGY is going to dry drainage without methscopolamine. And yes, the reason we can't get our meds (the warehouses have finally run out!), is because the FDA stopped production of all meds that contain ingredients that fell under the "grandfather" clause. On September 19, 2011, this all changed. That said, I HAD HOPE when I read that some of you, RECENTLY, found "methscopolamine bromide" tablets. I just called a Walgreen's pharmacist, and he basically said he can't get them...and didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE any information you other DRAINAGE sufferers can give! If I find out anything, I will POST it! The amount of people that suffer with sinus drainage/post nasal drip is HUGE! With or without the FDA, I've got to find a solution!!!

Methscop is the only thing I have found to "dry me up" for the 365 days a year trouble I have too. Also, my allergist called in Hist D Plus for me just yesterday. It has Methscop in it too. I haven't tried it yet because I am still using the methscop by itself. My pharmacist said they only pulled the drugs that have the combination of methscop and one other ingredient that is found in AlleRx, Dallergy, etc. That is why you should be able to get the methscop by itself!! I hope you can find a doctor to prescribe this for you. My doctor found it in the drug book under the "GI Tract" category in her drug journal. It is used to stop diarrhea (sp?) as well. Good luck.

MRSJ, that's exactly what I did! First, I ressearched it! Pamine (meth brom) has been approved by the FDA since 1953, to treat peptic ulcers (12.5 mg/day). I did call another pharmacist and found it...then called my allergist (we had a little pharma consult)...and they just called it in for me (and qd, so I will get 2 month's supply for one month's co-pay). So HALLELUJAH! I will have relief soon! AND, the meth brom is generic. The 12-hr pseudophedrine is generic. And my favorite antihistamine, claritin, is available generic. This will be WAY cheaper than STAHIST or ALLERX!!!

I'm glad this worked out for you. You are right about the expense. My co-pay for AlleRx was $60.00 per month. This methscop is only $15.00 and the Hist D was $36.00. I think the good Lord was watching over me when he took my AlleRx away. This is much cheaper and works the same - maybe better as far as side effects. I hope it all works out for you. If you have taken the medication already you should be feeling the results by now!!!

Thanks to everyone who posted on this topic. I was able to get my Dr. to prescribe Methscopalamine Bromide and along with generic sudafed I am able to control my allergies about as well as I did with Allerx.

Metscopolamine bromide can be gotten by prescription. You can then get chlorpheniramine OTC to approximate the former prescription combination decongestants.

11/8/2012 I, like others have been miserable when AllerX dose pack was no longer available. After some Internet research I asked my allergist if I could take Generic Methskopolamine (commonly used for GI issues, but can have other applications). This is the 2.5 mg drying agent that was in AllerX. My doctor advised to take this 3 times a day, along with the over the counter Benedryl. For me this works great! No more drip, constant coughing, etc. Ask your physician!!

I have been using nasal anticholinergic spray ipratropium bromide for 6 months with excellent results in controlling what had been relentless rhinorrhea as a result of diagnosed vasomotor rhinitis. I am still however suffering terrible post nasal drip 24/7 which is with me now for over 4 years. I was just wondering if anyone has had previous experience of moving to oral methscopolamine from ipratropium, essentially both anticholinergics, but had better effect in combating post nasal drip. I have previously tried almost every antihistamine, corticosteroid and decongestant with no effect until ipratropium at least dealt with nasal area. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Be careful of methscopal. bromide. It worked very well but raised my blood pressure dramatically. The awful gushing post nasal drip continued. Went to an ENT doctor who determined my sinuses were clean but that I had acid reflux (of the throat, not the stomach). I never had heartburn so this was a surprise. He prescribed Prilosec (generic) which is helping but still taking Benadryl for allergies. Of course all medicines have their side effects!

I've used chlorpheneramine maleate for many years - was sold as Chlor-Trimeton but very hard to find. CVS has a generic. It has much of the anti-cholergenic (anti-spasm) properties of scopolamine. FDA should mind its own business, our doctors know what they are doing.
