hi :) thank you for this service you are providing! I am having a colonoscopy procedure in **3 days from today**. I have been told I will be sedated (asleep) during this procedure.

I have taken methamphetamine 6 hours ago and I'm worried if there is a chance making this stupid decision tonight will affect negatively on me when I am put to sleep for my gastrointestinal exam. Will the methamphetamine affect the procedure in any way whatsoever? My stats are: female- 21 years old- 153 cm tall, 52 kgs, last dose was 2 days ago (I'm not a chronic user).

I know I've made a mistake and I've got no one to blame but myself... If you could please inform me of any perceived dangers of 3 day old methamphetamine-use and sedation for a gastro procedure I would be so thankful!

Back in the day, anesthesiologists used Methedrine IM (I can't imagine they gave it IV) to hep "wake up patients" or to bring them UP yo a --er-- "lighter plain of anesthesia." (I wasn't there. My own mentor told me about this and I've reached it.) Sounds like a speedball? Uh, yeah. Patients died every so often and they weren't taking huge doses of bootleg methamphetamine. Fortunately, methamphetamine has a relatively short half life. The antagonist I prefer is THORAZINE (chlorpromazine) 50mg orally, but any phenothiazine will do. A lot of what might happen is dose dependent. Benzodiazepines will help do. It's tough even for me (I have Panic Attack Disorder w/o Agoraphobia) to determine "now picky am I" in terms of dosing Klonopin. If you can, take a 10mg dose of Valium, 2mg dose of Klonopin, 25-50mg dose of Librium in mid evening. Incidentally, Compazine IS in the Thorazine family and it's not a terrific drug but it is prescribed widely for the nausea/vomiting of migraine, etc. Odds are a friend might have a few pills. Promethazine (Phenergan) also works, but it's written for mainly as cough syrups. Thank God this is anonymous because I"ll tell you a couple of tablespponsful of P:henergan ´xectorant with Codeine or Plain Phenergan Syrup would do the trick. I had what we now call an "Rx Drug Problem" (mostly 'cause I'm a doc) in college, grad school and medical school. All brand name drugs and its of Dexedrine, Preludin, Plegine, Dexamyl, Daprisal, Desoxyn, etc. I have some idea how you feel, but back in the "bad old days," my university doc prescribed Nembutal and gave me a bottle of 1 grain (64.5mg) QUADRIBARB tabs (25mg of Seconal; 25mg of Amytal, 7.5, of phenbarb and 7.5mg of butabarbital). Manufacturer cleaned ONE of these would do the job of 1-1/2 grains of Seconal or Nembutal. It didn't, but it enabled me to rest and purge myself of the stims. Hope this helps. Calling methamphetamine and other amphetamines OPIATES or OPIOIDS is misleading and it's INCORRECT. Well, the official indication for some excellent drugs doesn't include what we shrinks use them for. (Personal example: I haven't headache since I were a kid, but I was one of the first "generation" to use alcohol-based Retin-A Liquid -- full strength of 0.1%, alcohol base and burned like Hell. It worked, though. When I got to med school, I started learning about Retin-A's effect upon photo aging and wrinkles. I asked a family friend to write for it. That was 1988 or so and been using Retin-A and, now Tazorac, ever since. I showed up at my 40th high school reunion looking from 10-20 years younger than my classmates, No, that's not an official indication for Tazorac, but insurance will cover it under a Dx of Psoriasis!

Probably NOT. No incipient problems that I can discern. The anaesthetic agent usually used is PROPOFOL. if you don't feel as drowsy as the RN or Tech says you should, TELL HE (OR HIM). If you're really anxious, ask if they can give you something to clam you down. (Let the doc's staff choose.). There's a wide dosage range here, Good luck with the procedure (I hated ) and thanks for the nice compliment!....Dr Joey

So are you saying that Phenergan will help to clear the Desoxyn out of your body? I too will be having surgery soon, Cervical Disc Replacement X 3, but I am ADD and if I quit taking it, I won't get anything accomplished before surgery, I already know that I won't get anything done for a whle afterwards, so that would be bad! I have already gotten in trouble with the Neurosurgeon for it showing up in my body, I still have an old RX for it though and I was out of my Vyvanse so I took the Desoxyn until I could get into my Dr's office....
Thanks for the help! I still have a RX for Phenergan from a cyst removal surgery, I also get migraines so it helps with that too! PS, I too would love to be headache free, I don't think I have had a day without a headache in 10 + years, which is probably why I agreed to let them operate on my Spine!! I have always been so afraid of it and swore I would never have surgery!
