Methadone Dosage For Dogs In Pain

How much liquid methadone can i give to my 80 lb dog by mouth? I know that vets have given dogs methadone for pain but I just don't understand when they say you give them 0.1- 0.5 ml per kg.... Can you break it down for me in milligrams per lb if possible please?

However because you didn't mention what dose of methadone your pet is prescribed [it should state on the Rx label], there's no way for me to assume how many milligrams are in a 0.1 or 0.5mL serving. That said, I would still encourage you to discuss this with the prescribing veterinarian just to be on the safe side.

1 kg = 2.2 lbs

So it would be translated to 0.1mL per 2.2 lbs or 0.5mL per 2.2 lbs

2.2 lbs goes into 80 lbs roughly 36 times:

0.1mL x 36 = 3.6mL serving
0.5mL x 36 = 18mL serving

They put a dog on methadone for pain? That seems really cruel. Pain management doesn’t even like to use Methadone for pain because the dosage is tricky, and people can talk and report symptoms.
