Methadone Liquid Vs Pill Form

The situation is basically this -- Where I usually receive methadone (the normal 10mg.) I am having a situation where this route may not be avail. I recently was told a new person may have 90mg LIQUID form of methadone. First, my main purpose is to taper off other opioids. My thought process was this basically 15 (quantity) of the 10mg methadone and, in a week lower the dosage. Now that may not be an option. If I receive this 90mg LIQUID methadone how do I administer it? And, is one "bottle" (or however it comes) enough for a seven day "detox"? I am very confused on how to taper with this new form. (NEW meaning I've never taken it before).

Autumn, If you are being dispensed 90 milligrams of liquid methadone, that's equal to 9 10 mg pills: however, keep in mind, clinic dispensed methadone is, in my experience, very different from pills; liquid meth is a blocker for most other opiates and is "stronger" than pills. The individual bottles come in different dosages, from 5 milligrams all the way to 200 milligrams; your dose will be determined by the clinic doc and you, and depends on how much junk you were doing. Many clinics will do a 28 day detox, gradually lowering your daily dosage. Again, remember the liquid methadone is stronger and stays in system a long time, thus prolonging the sleepless nights & w/d's when you take your last dose. (bottle) Hope this helps..good luck..

Katee, Your info. Was very helpful thank you b/c I really have no clue about about the liquid form. So, in theory how many quantity of the 90mg. Liquid would I need to purchase to do a 7day detox. I understand your estimate may be a suggestion...and I totally understand that 100%. I'm merely trying to get an idea how to do this.

Autumn, I'm sorry, since I know so little about your situation & how many 10 mg pills you were taking daily, it's hard to know what to say other than what I said already; 10 milligrams of liquid methadone is equal to 1 10 mg. pill. If you have a 90 milligram bottle (liquid), that means you have basically the same as 9 10mg pills. Again, I don't think a 7 day detox is something you should do, however if you must do it, then just take 10mills liquid the first day (u can get measuring syringes w/o the needle at most pharms) and the 2nd day take 7mils, and on down till you are out (do the math) OR you could just take as little as possible each day until you are out. BE CAREFUL where you get the liquid (bottle) from, as people do add water to them. A 90 milligram bottle should measure 90 mills on a measuring syringe. OR the best solution is to go see a methadone clinic & ask for a detox if you can afford it. I apologize if I got you more confused...Good luck and God Bless You..

Autumn, I need to correct something I said previously. When you use a measuring syringe (like the one I told u about before) a 90 mil liquid bottle will actually just measure 9 ml on the side of the syringe, even though it's equal to 90 milligrams of methadone, or 9 10mg pills. Each tiny line on the side of syringe between the big #s 1, 2, 3, etc. stands for 1 milliliter, or 1mg in pill form. Confused? Once you look closely at the measuring syringes, it will make more sense. They also sell the liquid syringes at some Feed & Seed stores, as people use them to administer meds orally to their pets.
