I've been on medroxy for 3 years but stopped in oct 2013. I got a new doctor who put me back on march 2014, I started at 60mg a day because I bleed and don't come off my period. I got down to 40mg the week before last. Last week I started the 20mg. I had intercourse for the first time in a year on 4/5. Everything was fine. I had intercourse on 4/12. On 4/14 I started bleeding and have not stopped. My bleeding is increasing. My doctor told me to up it to 40mg again. In the past was only on 5mg at the most and I have never had this problem. I can't stop bleeding. I'm giving it until Friday before I call my doctor again to see what he wants me to do. This has never happened to me before. What could be going on? ## Hello, Nina! How are you doing? The levels of progesterone t...

I have been having super heavy periods all my life. It's usually been controlled by the pill, but the one that worked for me was pulled off the market. Last year, I literally bled from Jan Sept. With just a few days of no bleeding. I finally (I'm stubborn) went to the dr, and they gave me the Iud (mirena) That seemed to help, until this last few months. I hurt, hurt so bad, and bled like crazy. My body ended up expelling the iud and I instantly felt better. Unfortunately the bleeding came back with a vengeance. I went to the dr and couldn't see my Dr, he was out of town. The one Dr that I saw gave me a script for medroxyprogesterone. 10 MG daily. When I started taking it, I was told to try 1/2 a pull and I stopped bleeding, almost instantly. Now about 10 days later I started...

I just stop taking Medroxyprogesterone 10mg. How long does it take to stop bleeding? I was given this medication because the lining of my uterus is a little thick. I haven't had a menstrual period in 9 yrs. ## Hello, Nece! How are you? Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. It will really depend on how thick the lining was and how long it takes to slough off. How long were you taking the medication and how long have you been bleeding, now? The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and PMS-like symptoms.

I'm 20 years old and I've had a history of irregular periods so my doctor prescribed me Medroxyprogesterone. March 11th is the day I began taking it and finish my last pill March 19th. On March 21st is when I got my withdrawal period and it lasted until March 26th. I spotted on April 6th and I was supposed to start my period on April 24th. And still nothing, I've had a little cramping and increased urination. But I'm nervous to test. Has anyone had this happen to them?

I took plan B on Jan 25 2015. On Jan 26 2015 my period came on and then again on Feb 6 2015. On Feb 16 2015 I went to the ER because I was having massive bleeding and thought I was having a miscarriage. I was given an imaging ultrasound and was told that I have a moderate size fibroid. I saw my OBGYN and was told that I have a fibroid the size of a quarter and she wouldn't show me the pics after I asked. She hasn't done a physical examination at all since I started seeing her. She just did blood work because I told her that Im always tired and she prescribed blood pressure meds. She also prescribe medroxyprogesterone 10mg 1 per day every day. My period completely stopped and on March 30 2015 I decided to stop taking it since my stomach is hard and forming like im pregnant. I hav...

I am 46 and had regular monthly periods for many years. Two years ago I had regular periods except straight blood flow constant for two days like wetting my wants. Then two days of blood clots. Then no period until the next month. I assumed getting close to menopause so assumed it was normal. This summer I went to on gun and told her I was wearing three pads at a time, four layers of clothes, and still having leaks every hour or two. She ran both types of ultrasounds found a cyst on the ovary and put me on 10 mg of this from day 15-26. Didn't know what that meant and wanted a second opinion . This doctor said same thing except to take the same med everyday not just days 15-26. Everyday sounded easier to figure out then the specific days. However since being on this drug I have gaine...

So I don't have periods. I have pcos and my GP prescribes medroxyprogesterone to shed the lining of my womb at least once every three months. I take one tablet a day for 12 days and then I have my withdrawal bleed which is basically a normal 5-6 day period. I will not take any more tablets until I want to have another bleed but 2 weeks after my withdrawal bleed I have another period. I'd love to know why? Anyone? ## Hello, Sam! How are you? PCOS/PCOD does not always cause skipped periods, sometimes it causes them to be irregular, so you may have just had a period, without having to induce it. It would be best to check with your doctor to be sure, but most women with this condition have irregular periods. Is there anything else I can help with?

Will turn 55 in a few months and missed my period last month. Went to gyno for yearly checkup, sonogram showed everything ok. Dr. Prescribed medroxyprogesterone 10mg (for 10 days) so that I can get my period. I don' t understand, for ages when a woman's menstruation stopped it often meant menopause...............I think it's just a ruse for prescribing meds ## Hello, Fina! How are you? Yes, it could artificially induce periods, when you may be menopausal and should no longer be getting them. Even oral contraceptives can do that and, in most cases, doctors have a woman go off of them for a few months, when they reach a certain age, to see if they have periods without them. I'd suggest getting a second opinion from a different doctor. Is there anything else I can help with...

Hi, I've had abnormal periods since I was a teenager. At age 18 my gynecologist put me on provera/medroxyprogesterone, I've taken it every first 10 days of every month since then, and I am now 35 years old and still on this medicine. My doctor keeps telling me that I need to stay on it, to prevent uterine cancer, it runs in my family and if I don't take this medicine I won't get a period. My concern is the effect this medicine will have on my body after all these years of taking it. I keep reading that this medicine may increase my risk of breast and ovarian cancer. What do I do???? ## Hello, Judy! How are you? Wow! That's very unusual, most doctors will have you take it for awhile, then stop to see if your natural cycle kicks in. There's really no way for your d...

i have had irregular periods practically since i started one.. but in 2012 i started having regular periods but as of july 2013 it stoped. my ob/gyn perscribe me the medicine and i have only 3.. i am trying to get pregnant. is it possible since this pill is to regulate my period and to help balance my hormone can i get pregnant? ## Hello, Shelly! How are you? Yes, progesterone is vital to both a normal menstrual cycle and your ability to get pregnant. I can't promise you that it will work, but for the best possible outcome, it would be wise to follow your doctor's instructions. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## I haven't had my period in a while now, can't remember the last time so lets say around 6-7 months ago.. just recently I was prescribed a medroxyproge...

I was just prescribed this medication by my doctor, because of irregular periods. For the past 2 years I have had my period non-stop. It has not regulated or anything so she put me on this medication. What are the long term side effects of this? Does it decrease fertility? What? ## Hello, Lyla! How are you? No, it won't affect future fertility. Actually, this hormone is vital to your ability to get pregnant and maintain a healthy pregnancy to full term. Bleeding like you've been having is usually due to having too much estrogen and not enough progesterone, this is a form of progesterone to replace it for you to try to get the bleeding to stop. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, breast tenderness and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am 28 year old I am 12 days late never late this long I ask doctor if he can do blood work to see if I am pregnant he told me just to take this pill I am scared I am a mother of a 5 year old boy I just got married and we want a baby to add to are little family please help me should I take this pill or want ???? ## Hello, Lolita! How are you? You should have yourself checked for pregnancy, before taking them. If you take them for a few days, then stop, the sudden drop off could cause a miscarriage if you are pregnant. Can you get a home kit to check yourself?

Hi last month I took medroxprogesterone 40mg for 4 days because I wanted to shorten my period instead of shortdn my period it lasted for 10 days I was off my period for 3 weeks and I got my period on the. 3rd of may and it lasted.for 6 days I was off for 1 day and now I have been spotting for the past 3 days ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. This is a hormone, so it is very likely that is has thrown off your natural balance and it may take a few months for things to get back to normal. Have you consulted your OB Gyn? You should also have things checked out to be safe.

I've been taking medroxy for 4 days and the bleeding hasn't stopped is this normal ? I have 6 days left of pills I've been bleeding on and off for 3 months now, it's been more heavier this past week. The bleeding only started when the doctor put me on birth control and now we can't seem to get it to stop ## Have you stopped taking the birth control? And as to the Medroxyprogesterone, it could take 10 days, or more for it to get the bleeding to stop….and it is only going to work if the bleeding is being caused by a lack of progesterone being produced by your body. You may actually need estrogen, as well, to get it to stop. What type of doctor are you seeing for this issue?

After bleeding for 6 weeks straight I finally got an answer to what is wrong with me. I was diagnosed with mild PCOS & pre diabetic (more examinations need to be done)...I was told to take medroxy 10mg for 10 days, I was told my bleeding would stop & then about a week after I'd get my period. I have been taking for 5 days and my bleeding did stop but on the 5th day of taking meds (today) I am bleeding & feeling like I'm having a cycle! Is this normal? I still have 5 more pills to take! I feel like my reaction is different than EVERYONE ELSE'S! ## Hello, Tay! How are you? It is a hormone, so while there are certain ways it typically works in the body, there's also a chance that it may do something different in different women. Especially if your hormone levels...

Hello All, I have been using femilon since one month... I am experiencing severe hair loss.. I consulted my dermatologist and she told me that if your contraceptive pills contain medroxyprogesterone it triggers hair loss.... so does femilon contain medroxyprogesterone ? ## To be accurate, hair loss can be a side effect of most synthetic hormones and that is what is used in these oral contraceptives. However, it is usually related to the artificial estrogens, not the artificial forms of progesterone, in most people. Femilon contains ehtinylestradiol (an artificial estrogen) and desogestrel (an artificial progesterone). The reason many women suffer hair loss during perimenopause and menopause is due to the fact that their progesterone levels drop off, when they stop ovulating, but their e...

i hv been advised by dr. to take this medicine. I had wall thickniess and fibroids. pls suggest me if it is suitable for me or not. ## Hi, Raina! How are you? Meprate contains the active ingredient Medroxyprogesterone, which is a synthetic form of Progesterone, a hormone that is important to the female reproductive cycle. If you are low in it, it can cause your uterine walls to be too thick and fibroids to develop or grow out of control. Learn more Meprate details here. Thus your doctor is trying to supplement it back to help correct the issues you're suffering from. Is there anything else I can help with? *Please note that this information on Meprate is only relevant to the medication from India.
