Has anyone had issues after receiving a spinal epidural injection (Epidural Steroid Injection or ESI) for their back and/or sciatic pain? ## Hello Dennis, I was doing some research on the National Institute of Health's website and I was going to provide you with a list of side effects but the list is so ridiculously long that I feel like it would be overbearing. I ended up at the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. So I didn't take the last two pills. It has now been a full week after my last dose, and I am still struggling with insomnia, nausea, dizziness, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, heart pounding and high bp. I feel better in the evenings, but then it starts over in the mornings. Does anyone know how much longer these side effects will last? Does anyone have a similar story? ## I'm two weeks past the last dose, and I still have anxiety, nausea/weakness, fast heart beat and trouble sleeping. I took a medrol dosepack 4mg 6 day for pains in my neck that went down to my fingers and they were tingling and going numb. The day after I finshed it I lost my voice and still have no voice a week later and i am starting to get the same pain for which the med was prescribed for. Today it's been 3 weeks since my last dose of the methylprednisolone dose pack. I am finally getting some more sleep, but the side effects I am most worried about is my elevated heart rate. Minimal exercise sends it over 100 bpm. When can I expect this to get better? ## You heart rate should go up whenever you are being active. The Mayo Clinic provides a formula for calculating it, subtract your age from 220 and that will give you the maximum heart rate you should hit during exercise/activity. For example, I am 45, subtracting that from 220 gives me 175, so when being active, or exercising, my heart rate should not exceed that number. I had an allergic reaction to the Dermabond used as glue after my surgery. I was prescribed a Medrol 4mg dose pack. I have been on it for 2 days now and no improvement. I was prescribed: medrol dose pak VICODIN 5/500 and Motrin 800 mg tablets recently for a kidney stone by an emergency Dr in SFCA. Fifteen days later I rushed to the same emergency room feeling svere pain in my stomach. Upon arrival my blood pressure checked at 85/62. I was immediately admitted to the IC unit where a stomach specialist and a staff doctor found that I was bleeding internally. Neither of these two doctors could locate the source of the bleeding. I'm on day 5 of a Medrol 4mg 21 pack on day 4 I started having pain in my chest and left arm,days 1-3 I had pain in my legs (tibia/shin area, I was precribed this for an anterior glenoid labrum tear to reduce inflammation but it seems as if being on this has caused me more discomfort. How long does this drug stay in your system and how long does the 21 pack provide relief for? If the original pain doesn't get better after this treatment, my only other option is surgery since a cortisone lidocaine injection and physical therapy isn't helping. ## I've since finished the "pack" and it bought relief for only 4 days upon finishing. Recently, I had a scheduled appointment with my primary physician. I had a chest cold, which is rare for me. The doctor gave me an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, a Medrol 6-day pack, and an inhaler as treatment for the chest cold, which I didn't need. I consider this too many medications for just a chest cold, and that wasn't the reason I was seeing her. But I took the first two, but did not use the inhaler. During the next few weeks, I had two episodes where my throat seized up, once when a bit of water went down the wrong way, and then when I swallowed salad dressing with a hot pepper flake in it. I just took my last two pills of day one of this medrol pack. My doctor prescribed it for the inflammation in my throat. I felt good all day but after taking these last two this evening, I'm feeling some chest tightness. Is this normal? Also, how long for these pills to wear off so I can sleep? ## This is a normal side effect of this medication, according to NIH studies, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, and fluid retention. How severe is the tightness? Such side effects usually linger for a week, or so, after you finish the course of treatment. However, given the chest tightness, it would be best to consult your doctor to be safe.

My daughter has pneumonia, coughing fever, she has some medrol 4mg left over from when she hurt her neck. Will that help her breathe ## Hello, Betty! How is your daughter doing? I started taking medrol 4 mil pack then stopped taking it because of all side effects. It felt like the top of my head was on fire and like I was hit with a bat all over my body, major headaches, had to keep eyes closed, could not function.... I stopped taking it after I talked to my Dr who advised me to stop taking it with 2 pills left in the pack ..how come after a week I have still these side effects, getting nausea now, was being treated for re. arthritis. I'm a singer with a throat infection and taking augmentin 875/125. My voice has disappeared and I have a show tonight, my doctor advised to take 8x4mg medrol - he initially said 2x16 mg pills but when I said I had some 4mg - he said those would be okay. I took my first day of a medrol pack and after my last 2, before bed heart racing/pounding started. Approx 100 bpm. For about an hour now. ## Hello, Dee! How are you? I finished taking the medicine as prescribed on Sunday mar 13th. Now this morning I'm having some side effects. I have cramping in my abdomen, and diarrhea that looks like coffee grounds.
