Managing Withdrawal Symptoms From Adderall Xr

Updated

I have taken 40mg of Adderall XR (20 mgx2) for over five years. Once in the past i had to stop taking the Adderall abruptly and the withdrawal was terrible. From everything i heard and was told it wasnt supposed to be bad. I was stuck in bed for days. No matter how much i slept i was exhausted. Eventually Aderall was restarted and things went back to normal. However, now a couple of years later during a very stressful week i made the mistake of abusing my prescription. I took half a months worth the first week. Just going back to my normal dose after abusing for one week, im experience withdrawal symptoms. Fatigue, depression. Now i will only have enough pills to take my normal 2xday for some of the month the rest of the month i will only be able to take 1 pill.i have important thhings coming up. Can anyone suggest any helpful remedies or anything i can do to allievate some of the withdrawal symptoms followibg a rapid dose change of 20 mg Adderall XR?

people are using the word "withdrawal" far too much these days, especially when it comes to CNS stimulants, ie: amphetamines, Adderall, Ritalin and coke, which are not physically addictive. When you've been taking speed in high doses and have been on a "run" for awhile, as you have, what happens when you stop using is you "crash", rebound depression and related physical discomfort, the "shakes" etc., but this is not "withdrawal", your body is readjusting and you are getting well. I grew up in the 1960s and everybody was prescribed either Dexedrine or Dexamyl or one of the other countless combination amphetamine and barbiturate on the market, lots of people doctor shopped and I even had four different doctors all prescribing the same thing like many other folks did, so all this drug abuse crap has been going on for the past fifty years. Doctor shopping has always been a trick, but we didn't have all this computer internet, cameras watching our every move, cameras watching every move people make, it's really stupid to try this now. You can't get away with anything. Especially when it comes to prescription drugs, a million "eyes" are watching you, so your instantly busted whenever you make a wrong move. As you can tell, I hate the 21st century, it's most everyone from my generation's worst nightmare. It really sucks.

@Michael (original poster),

I see you posted this 3 days ago, so depending on what types of symptoms you're still dealing with at this point in time, I think one of the most important things you can try to do is focus on getting good nutrition from eating right and staying hydrated. Exercise has been scientifically proven to alleviate symptoms of depression, but if you're too fatigued to start a regimen, then maybe just going on a walk in nature and breathing fresh air for at least 30 minutes a day would be beneficial for clearing your head.

And if you're able to, I'd also suggest asking your doctor if there are any OTC herbal supplements that can be used as a form of adjunctive therapy during the time period that you only have 1 pill a day. Just a thought anyways to take the edge off?

I hope this helps!

Amphetamines are not physically addictive, If you can't handle mental Wd to the point you can't make it two weeks you need to reconsider taking adderal, For years I was prescribed 30mg Adderal Immediate Release 3x Daily, I would eat 6-12 a day every day till I ran out, then simply wait till I could go back to doc to refill, I worked everyday, Trade work as well, And I repeated that process for 5-6 years..Never felt anything coming off, take herbs or drink lattes, But again I think your mind is playing tricks on you BC a lot of addiction is in your head BC I'll be the first no second to tell you Adderall does not carry withdrawals. God help you if you ever have to come off an opiate..lol

I think I have more sympathy with you than the gentleman below. I unfortunately have tried most drugs available over my many many years. I have come off benzos (a physical withdrawal which is one of very few that can be fatal.) Slow, slow slow. Physical withdrawal done properly gets done and then we all cross our fingers for future. When done less salubriously (sorry sounds pompous) is disgusting to see but is short. Withdrawal from stimulants leaving little or no dopamine and difficulty kick starting that system. I give coke as an example. Rough few years, sis has just passed, broke shoulder, lost job, parents parkinsons, I'm Bipolar and epileptic...this is not a laugh and a half time. I had to sell my London house quick and move to somewhere cheap. I was catatonic in the morning. I take 23 pills a day for my mental head but i had an 84 point plan to do to sell my house. They were paying lots of money and i wanted them to move in somewhere clean and working. To do this plan I was taking 4g a day (high tolerance low quality but obviously got better). So I'm trying week off week on, now 9 days off, 5 on, whatever. BUT, the days off are completely distraught, immobile. The big thing in treating dependency is drug replacement e.g. methadone or naltrexone for Alcs. Coming off stimulants like Adderall or Coke, should in my view be prescribed Concerta, long acting ritalin, or adderall - slow release dopamine. In the UK no chance cos expensive. MY great idea is crap! So I definitely don't take lightly your position, but I do think you are frightened / hacked off by 2 occasions of taking pills early. There is no need to prostate yourself and shout "I'm not worthy!). People do it all the time - it's minor. And you panicking a bit. Physically there is no way you will die, etc - if a doc is looking at you down his nose then he's a useless doctor - number 1 - make anxious patient calm - FAIL! Drink coffee and take ephedra or ephedrine if you can get it - but not loads!'

Re: David (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Hello there. I suffer from insomnia, not used address. I use Valerian w lemon balm and melatonin w other relaxing herbs in it. It's by nature's bounty. I use a white noise machine, and have essential oil diffuser w lilac scent. I use relaxation therapy when I lay down too. These work for me. Good luck.
