From my own experiences with morphine it takes any where from 30 to 60 minutes for the drug to take effect.Make sure that you take the pill whole.Don't crush the pill because this will alter the time release of the drug.Drink plenty of water with the pill as so it will kick in faster.

The regular or time released tablets take between 20 to 30 minutes to start working, however, there is also an instant release on the market that starts working very fast.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth.

I know TiS question was posted several months ago, but wanted to add that, for me, it has always taken 2 full hours to feel any significant pain relief to kick in, each and every time. And even if I crush up the pill, it STILL takes the same 2 hours.

I have been taking morphine sulfate ER around 7 years, started at 15 mg ex a day, but have been on 100mg X a day now for the last 3 years, and I find it has always been an excellent reliever for my for my very severe bone pain.

But always takes 2 hours to kick in, so a good breakthrough med like percocet, which starts to work in about 20 minutes, is a good thing to be prescribed also can be very helpful to have for the Times you might forget to take your morphine ER a little late, so you have something that works faster while you are waiting for the morphine ER to kick back in.

Hope this helps someone.

Needed to make a couple corrections to my above post, as I see no edit button....I meant to write that I take the above dosages 3 X a day, with all the dosages I have ever taken, as that is how it is prescribed. (Although I am able to get adequate pain relief from taking it only 2 times a day if my pain levels are not as bad).
