I could not find anything with that marking in the US prescription drug database listings, however, Metoprolol is the generic for Lopressor or Toprol, the ER stands for extended release. This is used to lower blood pressure and reduce the work load on your heart.

I got the generic equivalent to Toprol XL 50 mg tablet used for high blood pressure treatment. I wanted to double check prior to taking the medication. My METOPROLOL ER 50 MG tablets also are an oblong tablet, G282 imprint on back, scored on front to break in half. Although the G was hard to read because of the triangular shape of the letter G. I just refilled the same perscription again. The new pills are more like Toprol XL. They are round with the code m50 on one side. No score to split

I was on Toprol XR for 3 yrs w/ no problem. Then HMO switched me to generic Metoprolol Succ ER...within three weeks my blood pressure rose considerably. I now have to take additional meds (Amlodiprine) to stablize blood presssure. I dont believe generics all work the same as branded.

Dorothy - "Possible side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tiredness, diarrhea, unusual dreams, ataxia, trouble sleeping, depression, and vision problems. It may also reduce blood flow to the hands and feet, causing them to feel numb and cold; smoking may worsen this effect.

Serious side effects that are not to be tolerated for any length of time include symptoms of a very slow heartbeat (less than 50 bpm) (e.g. persistent dizziness, fainting, unusual fatigue), bluish discoloration of the fingers and toes, numbness/tingling/swelling of the hands or feet, sexual dysfunction, erectile dysfunction (impotence), hair loss, mental/mood changes, trouble breathing, cough, dyslipidemia, and increased thirst. Other highly unlikely symptoms include easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat or fever, yellowing skin or eyes, stomach pain, dark urine, and persistent nausea. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness. Taking it with alcohol might cause mild body rashes and therefore is not recommended."

I was given a script for Toprol xl.
The pharmacy gave me Metoprolol Succ. ER.
Is this the same drug?
Does it have components that Toprol does not have?

I just refilled my Metoprolol ER 50mg and the pill size chaged from my last. Is it possible that the pill size would get bigger or could this be a mistake? I have not felt very well the last 3 days which is how long I have had the new.

Have taken Metoprolol Succ ER 50 mg for years. Now my RX carrier tells me it will increase in price in 2012 and will cost me 5 times the amount in 2011. Has anyone else received such a notice? Changed from Tier 1 to Tier 3. This is absurd.

I have AARP RX and they have increased from Tier 1 to Tier 3 from $7 to $111 for mail order 90 day supply. I am writing my congressman

I have been advised by AARP RX the reason for the increase in price was because Metoprolol Succ ER was going from a generic drug to a brand drug. I have never heard of this. However, in checking other pharmacies the price is about the same. Is is absurd.

I received the same letter. In searching the internet, I have found USA sites that sell 50 mg tablets from $21.00 to $30.00 per 30 day prescriptions; discounted for 60 and 90 day presrciptions. The 30 day cost WITHOUT insurance is less than the new co-pay.

Costco pharmacy (membership NOT required for pharmacy) quoted me a price of $21.95 qty. 30 Metopolol ER (succ) 50 mg. Tabs. This is without insurance. Costco's prices really are good! It may even be less to buy 90 day supply! You can even order refills online now.

I just had the same experience and nobody can tell me why. The metoprolol tartrate, which has to be take twice a day is much cheaper.

I too experienced the increase for the ER version and I have taken it for over 12 years with no change. Why now? No one can give me a good reason. The other one is not time released and that one is still tier 1. I was also able to get 90 days and now I can only get 60 days. It is a maintenance drug. What is up with this.

Pharmacies often change companies that they get their supply from & thus the possible change in size, color, shape, etc.but it is the same medication.

I was prescribed. Metoprolol two weeks ago for a surge in bp this drug is horrible since some say this is the generic version. Of it I had horrible heart paps although it would help calm it down. But I didn't research it till after I started taking it ..OMG!! I was Horrified at what it listed could possibly happen to you while on this drug. The PRO was to Slow your heart rate, but the side effects made me feel like a zombie! I was completely withdrawn my zest for life diminished. I was so vibrate before I cried and asked why me? 2 Trips to the ER while on this crap cause me to feel like I was dying and heart rate was elevated and whats worse is only for the treating ER phys to tell you NOTHINGS wrong ..oh it's just ANIEXTY?? What?? I know My body! Are you serious ..I tried to EXPLAIN only to have my cries fall on Deaf Ears.. Completely I was horrified as to why I was given this drug. I was already taking amlodipine 10mg and vals+htz 320..but needless too say I quit cold Turkey on the metoprolol 50mg. 1st I cut the pill in half to take some of it to taper myself down n seemed ok then two days later I stop all together. I really woke up feeling refreshed. And smiling no lie ..I couldn't believe It ..it was like God himself said ok I've been seeing what you been going through. SO IMA ease your pain and this is day two and I swear I've had no problem..I think only thing I get every now AND then is a headache but I rather deal with that than that poison.. so its only been two days no BP surges or heart PAPS..but I hope it last (fingers crossed)..I've cut my sodium intake and drink plenty of water..do my fruits and yogurt and oatmeal and berries and grilled chicken/salmon/veggies and drink my protein shakes and walk to get some exercise in, so I'm just gonna keep a positive attitude and hope it keeps going in the right direction. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE PRAYING FROM RELIEF FROM THESE HORRIBLE DRUGS. DOCTORS DONT KNOW EVERYTHING SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AS WELL and do what's right. MAKE YOUR JUDGEMENT CALL. It's Your life! GET HEALTHY AND stick to it at your own pace. I'm 41 years old and I'm not through. Living. So I'm determined...I WILL KEEP everyone in my prayers.

I just renewed my prescription for 90-days with my RX plan for Metroprolol Succinate, which had been $7.00 for 90 days and now just paid $108.00 for the same RX refill for the 90 days. The medication went from a Tier 1 to Tier 3; thus, higher price drug. ???

I was able to get my RX filled at Costco too for a much cheaper price. Got a 90 day supply for $55.36. My doctor wanted to keep me on the Succ ER if I could afford it so I'm glad Costco has it for less. However, the pill is much larger than the original one I was taking and has the marking W 735 and is round. The original from Prescription Solutions was round, small, with an M and the number 50 underneath it. I was concerned about the difference in size and called Costco. They assured me it was the same RX, just a different manufacturer. How do we really know it is correct. I haven't started the new RX yet. Now I am concerned about the size of the pill. I saw someone mentioned that is was a white oblong pill with G282 on it. My pills have never been oblong or had that marking. Does anyone have an answer?
