Lyrica Does Work (Page 2)

Updated

Lyrica does work for myself. But I started having side effects. Double vision, being tired all the time, confusion, didn't even remember my age and that might be a good thing. But the drug is awesome for taking the nerve pain away. Just pay attention to side effects.

I have been on Pregabalin (Lyrica) for over 4 years. My dose was being increased on a regular basis and I was eventually on the top dose of 600mg a day. I have now weaned myself down to 100mg and hope to finish this next week. The symptoms I have experienced are cramping in my stomach and diarreah. I do feel better after 4 or 5 days though. I feel I have been quite lucky because I have read a lot of people having a lot worse withdrawals.

HI CHRISTINE I have taken, The Med You WERE and the doctor told me to take it with an depression drug and it gave me suicidal thoughts and also you can gain weight with this medication . so it also gives you the hot flashes so always look on the computer for information on what kind of drugs your doctor gives you , they sometimes rush you out of the office after giving you them , so always ask questions on the drugs they give you . I start talking the LYRICA today and I am kind of scared to start . so what does it help the most the nerve pain or the muscle pain? very confused.

Hello. It was good for the nerve pain. Incredible actually! I've been off the drug for 6 mos and I STILL have blurry vision AND neuralgia pain in my foot. Never had this pain until I came off of Lyrica. Lost all the weight though. Cheers! Christine

almost a year, and i didn,t even take lyrica for very long. I had chest pains by the second day, I experienced severe shortness of breath and a rapid heart rate. Doctors disregarded any connection to Lyrica. I saw every possible specialist for nearly a year. I was puy on metoprolol for the rapid heart rate and shortness of breath improved with this. It also messed up my adrenal and thyroid function which I treated naturally. GOOD LUCK

Carole, I would run like the wind and NEVER LOOK BACK! I took 350mg s day for 2 years. In that time, I gained 100lbs (that's the best of my horrible experience), had swelling of hands, legs, feet, and face. Took Lasix 3x a day, started with blurry vision, to double vision, to seeing 1/2 of people. I also had convergence insufficiency, with 4 prisms in eyeglasses I had to wear all the time. The above is NOT the worst. .... I suffered total memory loss. I've been off of the killer drug for 1.5 years now, lost the 100lbs, regained my reading glasses eyesight, BUT, THE 2 YEARS OF TAKING LYRICA, I WILL NEVER REMEMBER THAT TIME! I missed 2 years of my son's life, important things, things a mother never wants to forget! I thought it may come back with time, but my psychiatrist confirmed that the time and would be"memories" were never stored into the amygdala, where we can"reflect and remember" past times and memories. As if the drug and side effects weren't enough, I've lost 2 years of my son's life, as well as, my own.
Ironically, I got on here to see how long day to day tasks etc can linger beyond the end of the medicine. I'm still struggling remembering daily appts, days of the week, just off the wall memory lapses that should've subsided by now.
I hope this info helps you in making your decision. In retrospect, I would've NEVER started Lyrica knowing what it cost me.

Thank you for telling me about all the side effects with Lyrica...My doctor is having me go from 75mg. a day to 50mg....but I haven't even started taking them again. I keep remembering all the dizziness from them....I thought it was a stroke, it was so bad. I appreciate the "heads up" very much.

You're welcome Carole! I'm always advocating for others in any situation that lands them on meds that I've had the worst side effects from. In my opinion, the FDA (my next website) needs to recall this drug. I hope all goes well for you!

I have had no luck w/Neorontin-- bad side effects even at vey low dosage-- so just started on my first Lyrica dose tonight. I can believe that it ight cause some irritability and impatince bt guess what-- you know what REALLY causesa irritability and impatience?? being in constant and severe pain and trying to act like a normal human being. So I'm giving Lyrica a chance.

Cindy, I'm glad to hear that it helps.... It helped me too but going through all of my old med bottles is the only way I remember how bad the severity of the side effects were. I recently found out that the memory loss is in fact permanent. The psychiatrist explained that during that time, all the events that occurred didn't get to the amygdala, so I will never recall those 2 years. The frustration of trying to remember turned into complete anguish knowing I lost 2 years of my son's life. I still have to write things in 3 different calendars. I have chosen to remember what I'm able to and deal with the pain with narcotics. I may be opiate tolerate after 10 years, but I can live with that instead of loosing my entire recollection of past and future.

Janet,
I am also a runner and I have a herniated disc in my upper back that is causing my right arm to go numb. If I try to do any weight bearing exercises the arm and shoulder have severe pain and the numbness is more severe and more frequent. Did the Lyrica help and are you still on it.? What side effects did you have? I am scheduled to have pain injections in two weeks.

Hi i was prescribed Lyrica for an exposed nerve in my thumb.I started on Neurotin and was eventually moved on to the Lyrica(Pregabalin) 150mg x3 daily.
Over a four year period ive lost 10kg,no appetitite,pancreas/chest and back pains, nausea, sweats.fever, even raised white cell count.
24 days ago i decided to stop taking these meds and went cold turkey, only now am i just beginning to feel slightly better, most the side effects have eased but still have insomnia.Ill deal with that but feel for you all.Its horrendous but in my experience things will get better.Hang in there.the advice i got was to taper down over a week but a month is more realistic and if your still suffering thereafter maybe try substituting the lowest dose of Lyrica to the higher dose of Neurotin, then taper down easier from those.Hope this helps you but we are all so different. All the best!

I was on Lyrica for 7 months. The nerve pain subsided. The side effects were weight gain, bloating and constipation. I halved my dose after 3 months to 75mg twice a day and got the same pain reduction. I tried to withdraw from Lyrica over the period of a week but I had severe withdrawals including my whole body vibrating, headaches and burning and pains. I then put myself back on the drug for a month then gradually withdrew from it over a period of about 5 weeks. It is now another 5 weeks since I have been off Lyrica and my weight is returning to normal and I feel my old self again. The nerve pain is starting to return but I have faith that I will be ok without this very very strong medication. I will return to regular acupuncture and have trust and faith in my body/mind's ability to heal further through meditation and prayer as well.

Except in about six weeks to three months you will be a pain free vegetable. That is what everyne is trying to tell you here. I sat in a chair for months, not caring about anything and worse not caring if I did not care. When my eye site finally go bad I decided it was the Lyrica and cut back, I am down to 50 MG a night and I still feel like crap. Nausea, BP up, vision problems still, so tired I can barely drag. Yes, those pains went away, but I will take the pain back and figure it our. Lyrica is slow death in a bottle.

I was on lyrica for 2years, had to come off because of swelling, I did wean myself off but it did not keep me from withdrawels, I have 12 stints in my chest, but the ER sent me home anyway, saying all I had was a migraine, I've never had migraine in my life! And now I'm in so much pain it's unbearable!!! I'm 57 years old and don't know how much more I can handle of this, I am having tremors, chills hot flashes, unbearable headache, pain in my whole body, emotions running out of control!! Anger, then crying, then praying, right now the only way I'm still alive is prayer and faith but at times my faith just goes I'm asking God to help me with my faith. I'm into this 3weeks now and believing that it's about at the end. At one point I lost all memory, didn't know myself, my kids, my wife, first thing was minor I forgot how to use the remote control then it went down hill from there. Went to hospital stayed in ICU for 3 days, they couldn't figure out what was wrong sent me home, 7 days later I was at the ER, for nothing they assumed I was a druggie wanting drugs and sent me home, so now 2 weeks later here I am suffering with no help from the health care professionals. What ever anyone of you do never let the Drs put you on this demon called LYRICA!!!!!

Paxil ALWAYS causes weight gain. It happened to my wife and her doctor said " Oh yeah that's normal" She was SO mad. Her doctor put her on a different med in the same family / problem solved. Ask your psychiatrist... Just a suggestion
