Lyrica Terrible Side Effects
(Newest replies first)

Lyrica has ruined my life. It wasn't bad enough with the pain from my back injury. I only took Lyrica for 2 weeks. The weight gain was bad. I lost 1/3 of my hair in 4 months. I have had a rash for over 1 year now. I mean a bad rash. This was my first side effect. And they warn you of this. Get off Lyrica asap if you get a rash. I thought I was having a stroke the first week on Lyrica when they rushed me to the hospital. I had read on the internet of how many young people have died from strokes from taking Lyrica. My vision is so bad now. I can barely drive at night time and I have to were glasses to see the tv. The worst side effect I've had and still have is the terrible, terrible pain in all my joints. My knees are so bad and my hands and fingers & joints pound and throb 24-7. The swelling in my arms and hands was so bad at one time, I thought I would lose my limbs due to non circulation. The pain is so bad in my knees, I can barely walk everyday. I am self employed and I type and write all day. My hands hurt so bad. I can barely hold anything in the mornings to pin my hair up or put on my makeup. As bad as my pain was and is in my back and cyatic nerve the Lyrica did help. It was a miracle. But I only took it 2 weeks and after 1 year I still have all the terrible side effects. I've been looking on the internet for other peoples bad reactions and I was told by my doctor and the hospital, I had a very bad reaction to it. I've seen a lot of people say they have never got rid of the knee pain and joint pain. Very scary. I called the drug company that makes Lyrica. I told them the side effects that I was having and the first question they asked me was how was my eye sight. I had a fit. I told them the double vision and blurry vision was bad. They made the comment to me that Pifzer was doing a study on this side effect. I was in an automobile accident, that was bad enough, but this drug Lyrica has ruined my life and there is no cure. There are numerous law suits against this drug. I will never be the same again!

Lyrica/Gabapentin are AWFUL.
I took it for 8 months with no issues.
Like a light switch, I suddenly went into deep depression and vocally told everyone, I wanted to die and I could not stop crying.
I had to be weaned off and now I am sane again, using cannabis oil and low dose 10mg Oxycodone BID.
The cannabis oil (rice grain dose) is a bullet to ANY nerve damage pain. Arachnoiditis was plaguing me, and now it is gone, thanks for Hybrid 360X theraplant cannabis oil.
I have no idea why so many are bashing medical mj.
We can't OD and nobody gets sad.
SIde effects include: spontaneous giggling~

I guess I am among the lucky ones. I have been on Lyrica 50 mg 3 xs a day for close to 10 years and have had no side effects whatsoever. It helps my peripheral neuropathy and my legs start tingling if I forget a dose. Great drug as far as I am concerned.

I feel so sorry for everyone. I’ve been on 50 mg of Lyrica 3 times a day for close to 10 years and it does help my peripheral neuropathy. I have had no side effects whatsoever . I am an 81 year old female. Is everyone taking a much higher dose than I am?

I’m glad to hear you are getting better. Would you mind sharing what are you taking for pain? I’m suffering from some type of nerve pain in my feet, legs, buttocks and spreading up my body. The pain has altered my life. Doctors do not know why they just keep trying different drugs. After starting Lyrica I started having electric shocks in my left hip and buttocks. I lost muscle tone and I noticed I have muscle and joint pain. My memory has gotten worse so I’m going to get off it. I’m down to 50mg and need something for pain. I’ve tried everything.

Re: Candace (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I had a sleep study done last fall, while I was on gabapentin, because I was waking up at 4 or 5 am and was fatigued all day. After the sleep study I quit the gabapentin and I finally started sleeping like a normal person. I tried 25 mg of Lyrica on Sunday night & I couldn’t even think straight until Wednesday, and Wednesday and Thursday I woke up at about 5 am for no reason. Side effects are insomnia and fatigue but my ***** doctor claimed I was just depressed. Huh. Depression is also a side effect. Why do so many doctors lack common sense?

I used Lyrica by Pfizer for years now for neuropathic pain. I switched to another brand made by Ultra in Mexico and had my face swell and not go away until I switched back to Pfizer. Why is this happening with one, and not the other?

You are not alone nor going crazy. I took one 100 mg of Lyrica since I had a car accident last year and I am still dealing with side effects since I too it in June of this year. My vision is blurry I am afraid to drive anywhere, my digestive system really bad, circulation is scaring me. I am only 38 and I am scared because his drug has caused be more muscle loss, joint pain, I shoulder are more rounded, my skin is super sensitive, I am having discharge coming out through my left breast, and I am having difficulty walking plus concentrate and able to grasp for words.

Thanks for posting your stories, it makes me feel less alone in my misery. I took Lyrica 300mg twice a day for about 6 months to address chronic pain with trapped nerves in my left arm. Initially it was fantastic, it really helped with the pain until I could get a couple of Cortazone injections. When the Cortazone started working it’s magic I started to wean off Lyrica over a period of 6 weeks. The withdrawal symptoms were awful, felt so bad for a few weeks till it got out of my system. I nearly went back on it during this time because I felt so bad.

16 months later I stil have symptoms that I never ever had before I took Lyrica. Symptoms include daily headaches, daily nausea, shortness of breath, tired muscles, fatigue, suicidal thoughts, dizziness, irritability, anger, can barely walk sometimes because my hip joint gets so painful, my finger nails are collapsing and I also get brain fog, it’s feels like a part of my brain is broken and unable to deal with normal annoyances in life anymore.

Yesterday I lost my job because my boss said I’m too moody and the rest of the team are afraid to say anything to me in case I get annoyed with them. I have open and honest with him over the last 16 months and he basically told me to get lost, we do t want you anymore. I asked him would he be firing me if I had a brain tumour, he didn’t reply. I have also missed lots of work / money over this time which isn’t helping matters either.

That’s the problem with an illness that you can’t really 100% prove or doesn’t have a name, most doctors and employers don’t believe a word.

In relation to finding out what’s wrong I have done every possible test and seen every possible specialist that relate to my symptoms. Every single test came back clear thankfully.

Initially my doctor thought it was phsycosematic and maybe still does but I wasn’t taking that for an answer. That’s normally caused by stress and anxiety which I do not have. He spoke to a pain management specialist who prescribed Lyrica a lot and he has seen people with prolonged symptoms after the withdrawal phase but only for two months. I made the point that if it can happen 2 months after withdrawal why can’t it happen for 16 months after withdrawal, everyone reacts differently. And 2 months is just “his experience” because from reading some of the stories in this list it certainly can last a lot longer than 2 months.

I see this pain specialist on 28th November to see what he thinks but I already know the answer ...

Lyrica has and is ruining my life !

Are all you guys in the US? I'm in Australia and, apparently, the government and doctors think this is THE wonder drug to cure all ails! I was prescribed it for nerve pain (which it did assist with, and my restless leg) after the "doctor" broke my finger while trying to realign a dislocation. They gave it to help with physio that wasn't helping because of the breakage. I stopped taking lyrica after a while because not only was i quite ill and had done a little reading on it, but i also felt it was no longer helping with the pain. When i was sent to the pain clinic, i was asked how much i lyrica i was taking and told them i'd stopped and why. I was asked if i had nausea, headaches or dizziness on taking the medication, and when i said no, i was told i was not taking enough if i wasn't experiencing side effects. The "doctor" there told me to try 4 lyrica pills twice daily and take 1 or 2 more if i was still not having side effects. I told them about the problems that had started after commencing lyrica - the painful joints, loss of muscle tone, excessive weight gain, swollen joints, fluid retention, mini strokes, vision impairment, intolerable migraines, shakiness, speech impediments, hair loss, memory loss, problems with walking, teeth problems, bouts of amnesia, suicidal thoughts, and the list goes on. I was told, in no uncertain terms, that it was in my imagination. Aside from trying to get me to take more of the lyrica, they wanted me to go on an anti-psychotic and an anti-depressant to "cope with the problems caused by the pain of my finger/s and hands". [My finger was dislocated after my hands were squeezed so tightly that my finger popped out of alignment.] I did not take any more lyrica, and i knew what i was feeling and experiencing was not in my head. Doctors i have seen in trying to get to the bottom of all these not-had-before problems have tried to put me back on lyrica as they claim it is a wonder drug and "has very few side effects". I was given a printed page someone had found for me about the effects of lyrica and i took it with me to some doctors to show them the dangers associated with this medication. I was totally dismissed and fobbed off. I was laughed at. I was even offered more to try and help with what it had done to me. I was only on this drug for a short while and yet it has completely changed my body. It has completely changed my life. This drug is a death sentence to some and a life (of hell) sentence to others. DO NOT TAKE LYRICA. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. Even a short amount of time on this medication can...and will...cause more damage and pain than you could anticipate. I feel for all who have been through hell and back, and are still there to varying degrees; and although this may seem a little cold to some extent, it is a small relief to know that it really isn't all in my head as they tried to make me believe because others have experienced the hell of lyrica, too. Thank you all for posting. I hope you are feeling better and have found treatments that help without the harm.

Oh brother, my doc gave me a script for lyrica that I said I would think about but didn't know that I would fill it as I was aware of some of the side effects, didn't know about all these other ones all of you guys have had. Now I want to seriously call my doctor and read him the riot act for recommending something so freaking lethal! I see him every 3 months and will definitely give him what for, have used this site awhile now and always get straight up honest answers, blessings to all of you. Your in my thoughts and prayers for sharing your stories. Please try to enjoy your holidays, love liz
