So I just found out after 5 months into taking this birth control that the white pills are active. I didn’t take the white pills last month and had my period and then started my new pack but also did unprotected intercourse during the first week of the new pack. Now by the end of the pack, I only took one white pill and my period didn’t come. And I just now started my new pack and my period still didn’t come. Also there were some times that I took some pills late by an hour or two and did have some spotting during the 3rd week of the pack and one single spotting during the white pillbut that’s it. And no more bleeding after that. Could I be pregnant? ## Sorry I didn’t mention this before but I’ve been taking lo loestrin fe the past 5 months. And would...

I started taking Lo Loestrin Fe in April 2011. I had normal periods for the next 5 months. I had no period, no cramps, no spotting, nothing after August. My husband and I are wanting to start a family, and with my doctors permission I took my last pill on Sunday June 3, 2012. I have not had anything since then either. I am worried that the pill messed me up because before I went on it and I was on a different pill, I had normal periods. Has anyone else had the same problems when coming off the pill? I know it takes some time for your body to regulate but I am starting to worry something else is wrong. ## Yes, it can be normal to continue to have such issues for several months, after stopping oral contraceptives, for some people it can take as long as 3 months. That's why most doctor...

Hi, Can I start the pill although my period was on a Friday and today is a Tuesday? I have taken a break of 2 months from taking the pill. Do I need to use other protection beyond the 7 days recommended? thanks. ## You can start them at any time, unless your doctor says otherwise, but that's when you need to use backup protection for the first 7 days. If you start it when on your period, then it is effective immediately. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Okay thank you for your response ## I am 35 years old, I got irregular periods. Sometimes have it twice in a month and then next month got it late. I've had the bc implant Nexplanon for 2 months now and my period had been on for 6 weeks out of those two months. Recently my Gyno prescribed me a two month supply of Lo Loestrin Fe to control my periods. Is it safe to be on two bc? ## Hello, Camille! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. And yes, they can both be used, with your doctor's approval and often are used this way, to get irregular bleeding under control. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms. I’ve been on Lo Loestrin for almost two months which was prescribed to me because large amounts of hormones make me very depressed. ive experienced extreme mood swings, daily cramping and bleeding, anxiety attacks (which ive never had before), and overall discomfort. i was happy to find that my first period was very light and had little to no cramping since my normal periods are very heavy and painful. however, the second period was extremely painful with nonstop cramps and heavy bleeding, is this normal? will my periods be this heavy from now on? and if so, should I switch to another form of bc? ## While cramping and bleeding can be normal side effects, according to FDA reports, they should not be that severe, so yes, you may need to try a different brand of hormonal contraceptiv...

I have been taking Lo loestrin for about a year now. Recently I moved to Oregon and skipped two periods by back-to-backing packs. Since I have done this I have noticed severe cramping and mood swings right around when I should be on my period. So this month I decided to try and have one to get my body to stop being so harsh when it usually isn't. Here is the problem. I am not starting. I am about to start the blue pills again and there are no signs of spotting. I am particularly nervous because last month I was all over the place with timing of my pills. There were probably 3 or 4 days (not all at once) that I had forgotten and had to double up the next day. Is this okay? I am pretty stressed and I know that sometimes stress can be a huge factor. Just want to know if I should contin...

Hi. I just took the last brown pill in my second pack of Lo Loestrin Fe. I have not bled at all yet. On the first pack I had bad cramping on the last white pill and then spotted on the first brown. Such light spotting that I only needed a panty liner for 2 days. Is this normal? Should I be concerned about pregnancy? I've never missed a pill and started the first pack when I was supposed to start the new pack of my old birth control, Yasmin. I am switching back. This pill is making me insane with worry. ## yes, its very normal. light spotting on lo lo estrin or lo estrin is what a lot of people experience. ## Gia's answer is correct. Contraceptives, such as this, contain hormones to prevent ovulation, which prevents pregnancy and changing the amount of hormones in your body can c...

I've been taking the pill for about two months but I skipped the white and brown pills in the first pack. Now when I take the first white pill in the pack when will my period start and about how long should it last after that? ## Hello, Marisa! How are you? Your period should start within a day or two and it should be pretty short with these ones, but I can't tell you precisely how long it will last. Some women don't have periods, at all, while taking this contraceptive. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS like symptoms. I have been taking Lo Loestrin Fe for 4 months now and i have only had 1 peroid and that was in the first month. I have continued having weird reactions so i have chosen to stop the pill. I stopped it on a blue pill 3 days before i switched to the white. It has been 5 days now and still no period. When should I expect to get it? Pregnancy test was neg a week ago. This drug just really seems to have me messed up. Anyone have any helpfull info? Thanx! ## Have you consulted your doctor? It is difficult to say when you may start your menstrual cycle, since as you said, it clearly has your hormones messed up, somewhat. There are other hormonal contraceptives that you can try, that may work better for you. But only your doctor can help you decide that. ## Hi Jae, I got off the pill about a mo...

I have been taking lo loestrin fe for 3 months. It is my last week of pills and I was intimate with my partner twice this week without using protection. I take the pills every day however I have not been taking them at the same time for the past two weeks. Some days I would take them in the morning, some days at dinner time, etc. Usually I take them in the morning. Is there a chance I could be pregnant? Is it really necessary to take them at the exact same time? Please help! ## Hello, Nicole! How are you? When taking oral contraceptives, as explained by the NIH, you have about 12 hours, before it's considered a late pill and 24 hours, before it's considered a missed pill. Thus, if you full missed any, then yes, there is a chance you could be pregnant. However, if you took them a...

I just started taking Lo Loestrin Fe (still in the first week of my first pack). I took the first pill when I started spotting about a week before I expected my period. I wasn't too surprised by this due to my heavy and irregular periods, which are half the reason I'm taking this birth control. However, the spotting lasted less than a day. I've continued taking the pills since then and have been experiencing side effects such as nausea, tender breasts, moodiness, and fatigue. Since I just started, I'm wondering if it's too early for the pill to be affecting me like this already and if these are from PMS, or possibly signs of pregnancy since they all have similar symptoms. I had unprotected intercourse roughly a week to a week and a half before the spotting occurred, ...

I took the first white pill of LoLo Estrin yesterday and woke up to a period today (supposed to take second white pill today) ... Can I skip the second white pill and the two brown pills to avoid my period from continuing or is it too late? ## No, skipping them won't change anything. You should finish them, as you are supposed to and then start the next pack, when you normally should. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Hi guys! So my doctor just prescribed me Loestrin Fe. This is my first time taking birth control ever and I took my first one tonight. I did a lot of reading and people have said they have had a lot of break through bleeding. Well I am leaving for a vacation at the beach on January 7 and I don't want to have to be on my period the whole time! So what would happen if I just waited till after my trip and started taking them again? Would I start on the 2nd pill? Or what? I am clueless! Please help! Much appreciated! ## Hello, Bridgett! How are you? Yes, you could do it that way if you want, but please check with your doctor to make sure that it's okay. However, you may not experience the breakthrough bleeding that others have, it can vary from person to person. You can basically st...

I have been on the birth control aubra for 5 months and usually bled during my 7 day placebo week. However I recently changed brands to lo loestrin fe. I finished the whole pack and I have not gotten my period I'm a little nervous but I always took my pills on time and never missed one. I didn't spot or have any break through bleeding either. I started a pack when I would have started my old birth control pack as that's what the website told me to do. Is there any way that I could be pregnant or is missing a period normal? ## The only way to be sure, of course, is to check for pregnancy, but skipping periods, or having irregular cycles can be normal side effects of oral contraceptives, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, and h...

I have been religiously taking Lo Loestrin Fe for 3 years and I recently got strep throat and was prescribed Amoxicillin. I'm in the middle of my pack and on the second day of taking the antibiotic I started a period which I usually don't get. I had unprotected intercourse on the third day and I'm wondering if I can get pregnant from it or if it's worth taking Plan B? I'm really afraid of the side effects of that though. ## Lo Loestrin Fe (norethindrone acetate + ethinyl estradiol) being a form of birth control, should prevent or at least significantly lower the possibility of pregnancy - regardless of whether you're on an antibiotic. Antibiotics may reduce bad (and good) bacteria within the body, but to my understanding should not interact with birth control or ...

Hello, so I have been on this BC for 4/5 months i had to end up throwing a pack away because I've missed pills and i had my period in the middle of the month. Then i started a new pack and when I was supposed to start my period after the blue pills were completed I just had very light brown discharge not enough to use a tampon or pad. Now I started another pack and still just have the light brown stuff here and there and no period. However I have felt light cramping a few times. Is it normal that I missed my period because I had to restart and throw a pack away? ## Hello, Elle! How are you? Yes, that is normal, unless your doctor sees some cause for concern. When you're taking OCs, your period is actually caused by a hormonal withdrawal, the tablets for that week don't conta...
