Is it okay to have grapefruit while taking Lipitor? ## It's true. You should not ingest grapefruit while taking Liptor, as it could increase the active ingredient's concentration in your bloodstream to unsafe levels. This applies to multiple statins including Lipitor (atorvastatin), Mevacor (lovastatin), and Zocor (simvastatin). ## I was told by a friend that you should not ingest grapefruit or grapefruit juice while on Lipitor. Any word on this? ## FYI any medication that reacts with grapefruit will also react with CBD oil. The CBD oil does the same thing as grapefruit.

I been taking Lipitor 40 mg and decreased it to 20 mg. I had terrible back pain for over a year. This past month I was put on an antibiotic called Ketek and the pharmacy told me to stop the Lipitor while on the Ketek. I did and guess what, my back pain is gone. Any one else have this problem with Lipitor? ## Did you just stop the Lipitor without any gradual weaning off of it? ## Yes, I am on Lipitor and have back pain...what can you take instead of lipitor. I also have short term memory loss. ## Statins, such as Lipitor, are well known to cause these types of side effects, as well as drowsiness, and loss of appetite. There are some other alternative medications that you can try, like Cholestyramine, WelChol, and Colestid, so you may want to speak to your doctor, you can also help lower ...

what is the difference between zocor and lipitor Doc changing me from one t the other ## Many doctors think all the statin drugs are about the same except for potency. (Lipitor about twice as potent as Zocor.) Quoted from an Older Article Below: 'The Food and Drug Administration approved the drug atorvastatin (Lipitor), which research suggests is more potent than the older statins. At its highest dose, atorvastatin may confer a slight advantage in reducing LDL for those with very high cholesterol. For most people, the lowest standard dose of atorvastatin is sufficient to help achieve target cholesterol levels. Why atorvastatin is more potent is not completely clear. Atorvastatin has a longer period of action than older stating, which may be why this drug produces similar reductions ...

I would like to tell everyone that I started taking Red Yeast Rice, 600 mg, once a day, about one year ago and my total cholesterol is down to 168 and my good cholesterol has gone very high ## Recent studies have shown that we might have misinterpreted cholesterol, and how dangerous the levels are of the various types. These same studied have also shown that changing them naturally, such as you did is more beneficial than taking chemical medications, according to NIH studies. Of course, I acknowledge that this information may change, at any time, and I am not a doctor, so I can only share the results of my research, I am not trying to tell anyone they should, or should not take a medication their doctor recommends. Is it ok to break 80 mg tablets in half to acheive 40mg dose? ## Of course it is! You would be far better and cheaper if you were to buy a good generic atorvastatin though, as Lipitor is exceedingly overpriced. 80mg is a HUGE dosage of atorvastatin, and is equivalent in potency to almost 160mg Simvastatin, which many consider the superior statin. Have you recently suffered a stroke or myocardial infarction? ## It is okay to do so, as long as the medication is not time released, and your doctor approves. My cardiologist often prescribes some of my medications in a higher dosage, so I can cut them in half, since it is often cheaper that way. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Atorvastatin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Are you on any othe...

I heard about a man who said that he thinks Lipitor made his wife get memory loss. Is this true as I think I have the same thing ## Me too, my memory loss just keeps getting worse ## That is not a normal side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA, but there is no way to be sure how any given medication will actually affect anyone that takes it, since we are all different. Its typical ones are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Has there been any change? Have you each consulted the prescribing doctors to see if there is another option you can try?

Why is it that taking pepto bismo causes me to have frequent urination just about every hour at night time? I also take Lipitor, Avapro, Metformin, Januvia and Actos. ## Lipitor interacts with antacids. My father has the same problem, plus nausea and stomach problems. Going to doctor to try and get him off it. Liptor from what I've been studying is not a very good, or useful, drug for most people. From what I've read, it only helps 1-3% of people.
