Linzess Weight Gain

I was just prescribed Linzess for my IBS. I am wondering if others on this medicine have experienced wieght gain?

Actually, since it usually causes gastrointestinal side effects, including diarrhea, it's usually known to cause the opposite problem of weight loss.

You should also be informed that some people develop serve, ongoing diarrhea, so you need to watch out for that and contact your doctor if it happens.

I've gained 4 pounds in 3 days since I started taking Linzess. I am on weight watchers so I count points so I know it is not my food intake. I don't usually fluctuate in pounds so I think it's the new meds. I am still taking Miralax but it doesn't seem like either are working. I look pregnant now. It may take 2 weeks for the meds to work. I may need a higher dose. I'll give it a more time.

I started on Linaclotide a couple of weeks back. It isn't working very well at all, and I am constantly hungry. Anyone else having this result?

I had the same weight gain on 145 mcg of Linzess, four or five pounds the first week. Am finding it very difficult to lose that weight. Many others have complained of sudden weight gain. I called the manufacturer and informed them of same. I've discussed this with my doctor but we can't figure it out.

I have a question. I have a 2month expired bottle of Linzess. It was a sample. I haven't tried it yet and still wanted to try it. Is it dangerous?

Do you mean is it dangerous because it is beyond the expiration date? I doubt it. If you mean is it dangerous to use in general, no. From my experience, it is safe.

I took Linzess for about 3 weeks back in the fall. The first week, I had diarrhea almost daily, and I lost a couple of pounds. I thought I had found a miracle cure for my chronic constipation and bloating. The next week, I was still having regular soft bowel movements, but I starting feeling bloated again and noticed I was gaining weight. I thought it was just water weight, so I kept taking Linzess for another week until I was smart enough to Google Linzess and weight gain.

I gained 7 lbs. in just under 2 weeks. I'm only 5'2", so that is a significant weight gain for me. Fast forward to 7 months later, and I'm still struggling to lose those extra pounds even with intense daily exercise. It's the most difficult excess weight I've ever battled...even after gaining far too much weight with both of my pregnancies, I was able to work out daily and bounce back fairly quickly. I can not get rid of this stupid Linzess weight and it's very frustrating. I would rather deal with constipation than the extra pounds.

I have been (was) on linzess for 6 mos but wasnt taking it regularly. I noticed weight fluctuations. I was consistant as of april 2014 and i stopped taking it as of July 2014. I gained 20lbs. I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week. I put myself on a vegetable and seafood diet. nothing but continued gain. My average size was a 6. the largest i own in a 10 but not even the 10 will fit.

I have just started taking Linzess for my IBS and I've noticed that I have less appetite and am actually loosing weight. Am I just the exception or should I expect to see this change over time?

I have been taking Linzess for about a month, because I have severe IBS. I guess I am the opposite as well. My beginning weight started at 218 and as of August 18,2014 , I weight 210. I weigh in every Monday. For me it is a life changer and saver as well. I have changed my diet as well. Fruit smoothie in the morning, one good meal and a fruit smoothie in the evening. I also read it takes about 12hours for all food to metabolize in fat and proteins, maybe thats why I have lost so much weight. I take my Linzess at the end of the day before going to bed, allowing it to perform a detox. Thank you Linzess.

i just started linvess after being constipated for 27 days, however, with no weight gain. since linvess, i am gaining about a pound every other day. i am shocked and disgusted. i will finish this vial of 30 caps since it cost $265.(doctor did not tell me in advance) but don't want to renew it. there are other cheaper ways to induce diarrhea just like linvess!

Yes, I am experiencing the ongoing hunger and I am gaining weight. I only started a couple of weeks ago, and Amitiza did not work for me, but I am thinking of switching back to it.

Make sure the dessicant is in there. Those tablets are very moisture sensitive. Even on the webpage it says Only take in factory packaging. Wal-Mart is dumping those in regular prescription bottles

Hello. Make sure you have the desiccant in that bottle. Also the manufacturer says only fill that in the original manufacturers bottle. Check with pharmacist on expiration.

you should try 290 mcg... it works!! Take in the morning with an emptry stomach and within half hour eat somthing, be ready to go to the bathroom :)
Try having enough time for the process, i have also try taking it in the afternoon when my stomach is bloaded and it works.
IBS is the worse, just watch the changes closely to see what works for you!

I have lost 13 pounds since starting Linzess last year. While I am grateful that it has helped dramatically with the constipation, I have found that my entire life revolves around when I take this medication. I am never hungry. And when I do eat (even half a bagel or something small) I have half an hour before the "getting sick" begins, and that lasts for hours.

I am now 102 pounds, and though I have been trying to eat more to get to 110, nothing is working.

I am so glad that you posted. I take 145 2x a day. Most people say they gain weight on this drug but I am withering away over here.

Publix dumps them in their prescription bottles, as well. I had to tell them not to do that.

I have gained 22 lbs since I started on Linzess. I have NEVER had a problem with my weight. Even after having my children I lost all of that weight and had a flat tummy. Now my stomach is incredibly bloated!!!! I am not taking the Linzess anymore as of today!!!!!

Thank you for reply... Finally positive weight loss hope... I am already suffering with all the negative symptoms everyone is describing about bloating, slight weight gain and bathroom problems with my current medications(especially Wellbutrin).
My left is awful but now w/ Linzess only has to get better.. I can only get smaller and hv no more bloat.. Life has to get better after Linzess!! Your post was positive hope for me.

I also gained weight and stopped taking it after one month. I am athletic and never have a problem with my weight but 145 mg Linzess made my abdomen bloated and painful and stopped working after the first week. I have been off it for a week and the bloating and weight gain has not gone away.

I’ve experienced after 45 days on it an increase of 10lbs of weight. I’ve been off it for a few weeks and still haven’t lost any weight. I workout as well and maintain a healthy diet. Please someone tell me it just takes time and I will get rid of it.
