What happens if u take linzess on a empty stomach?

Hi Chelle,

Actually you are supposed to take Linzess on an empty stomach. Then you need to wait one hour following the meal for the drug to work best. If you eat before taking this medicine you need wait two hours to take it.
I am not sure what issues might result from not following these rules?

As to what happens if you don't follow these instructions, the efficacy of the medication may be reduced, so it may not work. It is best taken on an empty stomach, with a full 8ounce glass of water, at least an hour before eating.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and bloating.

My Linzess prescription doesn't have any labels but the last time my refill had labels that told me take it on an empty stomach. l always have taken it after my last meal of the day, so is there a reason for taking it on an empty stomach?
