Just to confirm, the pill in question is indeed Equate brand Ultra Strength Antacid Tablet. It contains (1000 mg) Calcium Carbonate.

This medication is used to treat symptoms caused by too much stomach acid such as heartburn, upset stomach, or indigestion.

This pill is an antacid. However that being said it may seem odd that a teenager would want or need one but if they are on ADHD medication such as Adderall they may be taking this because it extends and enhances the absorption and effects of that drug. It is effective enough that depending on the amount your teen ingests of these drugs simultaneously it could become dangerous, and as such, there are warnings on the counter indications supplied with Adderall that they print out with the prescription. Conversely, ingesting Citric acid (Vitamin C) will counteract the effects of Adderall and it may be that they are trying to offset this counter activity with the antacid so that they do not have to limit their intake of essential vitamin C and not have top take more Adderall for the same efficacy. I speak from experience in this matter and have been diagnosed with ADHD for awhile and took some antacid once while taking my normal dose of Adderall and discovered the effects as I could not sleep for over a day. I told my doctor and he informed me of the above information so I trust it is reliable. This is reinforced by the fact that I experienced it first hand. I have also noticed that if I avoid Vitamin C intake the efficacy of Adderall (and duration) is noticeable. I would inform your teen of the dangers (and I am not making judgments of your child) but it is statistically likely that they are aware of the effects already which would likely explain a teen who takes Adderall having antacids. Once again no disrespect or assumptions intended just stating the most likely scenario. Make sure they know that it is POSSIBLE to experience harsher side effects when these two are taken together. Most common side effect will be increased aggression and manic behavior (manic being euphoric or overly positive in nature) and insomnia, and loss of appetite which routinely will cause weight loss followed by overeating when they run out and then subsequent lethargy and weight gain which would seem rapid to outsiders. This drug is highly addictive and prone to abuse due to its nature but it does work for those who truly have ADHD so do not discount your child's need for it. Once I was diagnosed and treated I went from boring menial jobs to becoming a Senior Project manager in 2 years because I could finally focus and think clearly and concisely.

Wow, Robert really put some assumptions in there. "Basically ma'am, your son is inj'ing opiates and marijuana in the basement. I'm not judging your son, but I just labeled him a drug addict based on an antacid tablet." It's an antacid tablet. This doesn't necessarily mean he's fending for a more powerful high. Maybe he ate too much spaghetti. Sometimes teens get upset stomachs too.
