Levothyroxine Side Effects (Page 2)

Updated

I was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine?

I'm pregnant but I found out I have fibroids. The doctor prescribed levothyroxine to help to shrink. I started to take the tablets two days ago. Today I bleeded a little bit. I'm worried because I have read about too many side effects. I haven't read about bleeding during pregnancy but I am scared.

I had a total thyroid removal a month ago and yes I do get a head rush, brain frog, and dizzy from the levethyroxine. However, to make things more complicated I also take Flomax. Flomax can cause you to be dizzy upon standing. Does anyone out there take Levothroxine and Flomax?

I just started on Levothyroxine 0.05 mg or 50 mcg today and I feel a little speedy. I'm concerned because my blood pressure has been normal for over a year taking 80 mg of Diovan daily. Now that I have to take Levothyroxine and feel this speediness I feel like my blood pressure is up. Any experienced people taking both of these medicines? Thanks.

I've just started taking levothyroxine 50mcg and the only effect I've had is a strange color to my urine - rather greenish. Is that normal??

On 5/11 I awoke & was unble to function normally, balance was off, unable to call my dogs by name, tongue tingly, right hand/arm uncoordinated! I have been very stressed and feared the worst! I started taking this med 3 months ago because I don't have insurance. I need to go to Dr. and thought I'd ck online first. YES! I feel brain fog and as if I were DRUNK! I don't use any other drug nor do I use alcohol! Thank you for your frankness. Please let me know if anyone else has had similar problems!

I have taken Levothyroxine for about 7 months and I stopped taking it. I started to feel pain in my tendons and aches like when I stood on my feet, my feet would hurt for a few minutes. I also felt numbness in my hands. I feel better off of it and I am going to wait a couple of months and go and get a blood test and see if my thyroid is OK without it. I also heard taking vitamins can cause low thyroid readings too, which I took, so I am going off those as well, and then get the test. My Mom is on Levo too, for many years, and has trouble remembering things. She attributes it to taking Levo, but it could be her thyroid, since it can affect memory. Anyone else having memory trouble since taking Levothyroxine? Good Luck to all on it. Oh, I was told losing weight can cause your thyroid to function better too.

Hey I had a question about this. I have a completely normal thyroid, literally it is in the EXACT middle point of normal. However, my doctor prescribed the medication for me because I had gained a lot of weight when I was sick with Oral Thrush (I had it for almost 3 months) there is a medication for it, and it is only 1 pill, you take 1 time. But no one would prescribe it for me, until I went to the ER and waited there all day and finally when I saw a nurse I told her when she saw the doctor to tell her I wanted a prescription for that pill.
Anyways, since I'd gained so much weight, the doctor checked my blood for thyroid, diabetes, etc... (I also JUST had a baby) everything came back perfect but he still prescribed me Synthroid. I took it one day... then read all of the rules and directions on the box and a bunch of reviews about people gaining weight on it and refused to continue taking it. I also read it can make your thyroid stop working completely or become dependent on the medication, so why would I take it if i don't need to, I have plenty of health problems and daily meds I would prefer to keep it to just those for the time being.
Has anyone lost weight on this medication? I have read so many awful reviews on it so I was very curious.

I've taking Synthroid for years, and was diagnosed hypothiroidism/Hashimoto's abou 14 years ago. I read all the comments and questions on these 2 pages. My experience with thyroid problem is as bad as yours. However, now,I realize that those symproms -loose of hair, lose of memory, tachicardia, etc. were for the reason that my thyroid was not working correctly because first either, I did not not know I had the problem, then because the medicine was icorrect. Usually overdose. I recomend the endocrinology doctor, take the medicine as soon as you wake up, eat something after an hour, take vitamins -daily- after four hours after having taken the medicine, do exercise -I walk 1/2 hour daily. Don't forget to visit your doctor. My doctor requests a visit epr year, but I request exams every 3 months to my general doctor. And, if I find or feel an irregularity I make an appoitnment with my specialist, ASAP. Remember that we are in constant hormone change. I learned from your comments. My concern, right now, is the liver. Lately, I have heard that affects the liver, and I am trying to find information. Remember to remember you -we- live this problem. Once I forgot and I was dying. I was -or the doctor- taking overdose. I change the doctor. Good luck.

In response to the first question I've never had that feeling but only been taking levo for about 2 weeks. As for your concern for side effects, mine have been more along the restricted feeling in throat and sore throat, and muscle aches. From reading some of your concerns I understand how you feel. However, it says specifically on the label of this medicine that the dr has prescribed it because the positive effects outweigh the negative side effects. From doing a lot of reading some of you have the option of switching meds and trying a brand name like synthroid. That has seemed to have worked better for some.More importantly, stop complaining and call your doctor.He/she should know what's going on with your body more so then the people on this forum. If you don't like your current doctor find a new one that you like. Everyone has their own expectations of what a doctor should be and you need to find that. Additionally, It's primarily your responsibility to ask questions and voice concerns to your doctor.I see some of you on the forum have educated yourself and are here for support. Completely understood. However, some are misusing this for a doctor visit. Do some reading, see your doctor, if you don't like your doctor get a new one and repeat until you find the info, diagnosis, and controlled management of your thyroid which works best for you with minimal side effects. Hope everything works out for everyone. Best of luck.

I was unfortunate to be born without a Thryroid gland and have had to take Levothyroxine all my life. I always seem to be hyperactive, have a big appetite, always feel tired around tea time and reglarly feel ill. Doctors are useless and don't seem to know what is going on and my tablet strength is normal. Does anyone else have the same effects? My current dose is 200mcg.

I have been taking Levothyroxine for about 2 years. When my primary care physician (pcp) first put me on Levo. it was started at 25 mcg. I experienced hair loss on one side of my head. I then went to an endocrinologist and after waiting a few months and taking nothing else including vitamins I resumed taking Levo. at the 25mcg dosage. Hair grew back slowly and I was feeling pretty well. Blood tests have been taken regularly and I was increased to 50mcg and still everything was okay. A few weeks after having my Levo increased to 75mcg I started to feel joint pain in my knees and lower back (kind of near my hips). The pain was so bad that I was awake for two hours a night for two nights. Finally, I reduced my dosage to 50 mcg and slept through the night the next night and for a week afterwards. My knee (joint) pain continues during the day. It is severe and I was worried that I was going to have to miss work. I contacted my doctor's office and told them that I was going to stop the Levo. for a week to see if the pain subsides. I know that this all sounds too weird, but I really believe that it is the Levo. I hope that everyone else can find the correct dosage that they need. I'll let you know how this turns out. Good luck everyone.

I had hypothyroidism for over 10 years. I don't remember any dizziness or strange feelings in my head, but it did regulate my menstrual cycle (which was out of whack for years). My doctor told me it was normal to not have any side effects. I was on the RX Synthroid as well as both of my sisters. You have to wait to eat at least an hour after taking the tablet, or take the tablet 2 hours after eating. My sister's doctor said that soy affects the thyroid levels so try to avoid soy; many things have soy or soy additives in them. Check your labels. Ask your doctor. You might consider talking to your doctor about switching you to Synthroid. Don't stop your meds without talking to your doctor first. The thyroid can affect your joints and can cause all kinds of problems. I suggest you let your doctor know of these problems. If they don't listen or you aren't satisfied, seek an endocrinologist.

I have been taking 100mcg of Levothyroxin for four days and I am getting the foggy feeling for about 3 hours starting about two hours after taking the drug. Went fishing the first day and waded a stream. Was not sure I could make it back 1/2 mile of walking in the water due to weakness and feeling faint. Heat of the day was part of it but never happened to me before. I was surprised I needed this as I am not over weight and felt fine otherwise. I am 64 yrs old. I hope the light headedness subsides over time.

I just started taking levothyroxine about two weeks ago. I'm only seventeen years old and I can barely get up in the morning! I constantly have a brain fog, which causes my memory to be practically elusive. Also I feel light-headed and moody constantly. Should I switch to Armour or another drug?

Can't say its the med but I feel stoned and tired most of the time. I also feel very grumpy. I am also having angina. Pretty sure that I am going to stop the med and go for monitoring hormone level.
