Lasik Surgery

Updated

Hi,

I've been thinking about lasik for a long because I hate my contacts and don't want to wear them all the time. I visited a local treatment centre, and they informed me that I am a suitable candidate for Lasik eye surgery. In any case, I'm willing to undergo whatever operation to get rid of my spectacles; they're causing me a lot of frustration right now. Since I was a child, I've worn glasses. I only recently learned about these refractive operations. I also wish I had known about it earlier. What are your thoughts on Lasik?

Thanks

I had laser surgery twice, once for a torn retina and the second time for high pressure in my same eye. I now suffer from very bad dry eye syndrome to the point that I’m now being treated for it with moderate success.
I was never told that this could happen so I am suggesting you get as much info as you can before you go ahead. I m sure that not all people will experience this problem. Good luck with your decision.

From someone who is older: I suggest you weigh the pros & cons.
Pros are obvious.
Cons: dry eyes, problems because of chronic dry eye when you need to have cataract surgery. The surface of your eye becomes damaged from chronic dry eye.
If you decide to have the lasik, ask for & hang onto the current eye prescription (all info on your eyes) you have. Cataract docs need those numbers.
Good luck!

As with any procedure, there is a risk of experiencing side effects, as Judy, and Colleen have mentioned, though it has successfully helped many people without causing any problems.

You can learn more about it on Medline Plus LASIK.

I've never had it done, wearing glasses, since I've gotten older, doesn't bother me, but not everyone likes wearing them.

Can anyone else that's had it done chime in with their experiences?
