I have been seeing a doc for 4 yrs for pain management who put me on 100 mg. Methadone. He left his practice and his replacement won't prescribe methadone. I have called multiple pain management docs who will not take me at this mg level. I have tried everything else before and need a LAS VEGAS area doc who will see me soon.

In a way, you may be creating your own problem here. If you are calling other doctors and asking if they will prescribe Methadone at your current dosage level, then just about all of them are going to say no.

The reason for this is due to the fact that doing so is considered drug seeking behavior and doctors are warned to avoid taking on such patients.

The best thing you can do is to make an appointment with a new doctor for a consultation and make sure that they receive a full copy of your medical records, or take one with you and let them speak for themselves. Many doctors are more likely to follow the recommendations and prescribing practices of their fellow physicians, when they see it fully documented in your records.

Unfortunately that hasn't been my experience. We haven't asked them upfront. Just sent my previous records and have had 3 separate pain docs give us the same line. Methadone is bad, it can lead to heart issues etc. I am young and see a cardiologist to monitor that. Its like they've all been recently told to say the same thing. We went through a long and painful process finding something that worked. I havee extreme nerve damage caused by emdometriosis and the surgeries meant to rectify the problem. I can't go through it again. The methadone has been a literal life saver. I don't understand why all these docs are suddenly refusing to write for methadone.

I've tried to find a MD who would prescribe methadone as I wean myself from 5X 20mg of oxycodone for severe chronic neuropathic pain. I live in the "medical desert" that is northern Arizona, southern Utah. The irrational response by the CDC to the so-called "opioid epidemic", threatening to take away their licenses for "over prescribing", etc. has created this rather massive problem. The reason there are so many deaths is because people can't get pain meds and they are going out on the streets and buying illicit drugs, etc. and they are dying for not knowing what they are ingesting. I wonder how many people have died and are going to die because of this situation.

Plenty are going to die because of no pain relief. I used to take 90 mgs of methadone a day for cronic severe back pain for 23 years. March 2017 they cut me down to 40 mgs a day. Then in April no more methadone, just 30 mgs of morphine a day. This last Friday I said to my pain Dr. I need something better so he added 1 more 15 mg so now I take 45 mgs a day of morphine. That's like taking 1/2 of a 10 mg methadone a day. I hardly sleep now a lot of pain. Don't want to get it on the streets so I guess a gun would do the job. I wouldn't but sometimes when the pain is so bad I think that's the only way for instant relief.
