Why is Lamictal prescribed to both epileptic sufferers as well as patients diagnosed with biopolar disorder? ## Lamictal (lamotrigine) is an anticonvulsant medication. The action of the medication is unknown, it may inhibit voltage-sensitive sodium channels. Although one of the main uses of the drug is for seizures, it seems to work well for treating bipolar. Another example of a medication such as this is: Klonopin (clonazepam) - an anticonvulsant used for seizures, but it is also used for anxiety, as well as insomnia (it causes drowsiness). ## When a medication comes on the market and starts being prescribed, it is very common for doctors and researchers to find other conditions that it also treats and then start prescribing it for those as well.

how long does the dizziness last? ## It lasted about 4 weeks with me. It was a pain to go through but it was worth it. I've been on it for 10 months for bi-polar. ## Side effects and their duration will vary from person to person, it depends on your body chemistry, your tolerance to meds, the dose you are taking and etc. The average is about 2 weeks, but it can be longer and shorter depending on the person. If it still persists after about 4 weeks, then be sure to consult your doctor. ## I have been on lamictal for 22 yrs, I still get some dizzines if i do not eat regularly, sleep and tireness seem to make a diff with me also... I am on 300 mg. 4 times daily ## I have experenced the dizziness a few times since I started taking Lamictal in Jan.2007
